Thought it was time for yet another update. Mac Classic now on my desk, two new monitors to go with the new MacBook Pro... and the completed Lego Titanic on the shelf. QuickSilver happily sits a lot of the time running DVDs of Frasier as a screensaver.

[edit] If you have eagle eyes, you might find a PowerBook G4 hiding in this photo somewhere. It has a very head HDD at the moment, but have a replacement on order!
That's one loud clock! :p

It’s a gentle, comforting hum!

(21 years ago my Power Mac G4 was used as a web server while at University… the Mac was in my bedroom so it would chug away while I was asleep, occasionally spinning up with network traffic… I think weirdly I got so used to the sound of it running that I associate it with being snug!)

While I'm out on the road, my setup looks a little like this. Obviously I don't usually have them both open at once, but... sometimes I do.

My setup has evolved a little since I first started working on my 800Mhz iMac
last year - the powerbook now also has an SSD, and sorbet leopard with the Leopard Rebirth scheme. I’ve also had a lot of fun adding a 32GB compact flash card and new battery to a silver gen 2 ipod mini I found going for just £11 on ebay a few days ago. Thanks to everyone on here for the ideas and inspiration, particularly to @z970 for sorbet! :apple::apple::apple:

Here's my recent little project...
An inherrited iMac G4 800mHz.

With thanks to some tips & tricks here on the forum upgraded to 768 MB (soon 1GB), and a 120 GB SSD, after a thourough internal clean-up and new thermal paste (and a new Pram battery while the thing was open) as well as a replacement for the broken DVD.

IMG20220122224504.jpg

Installed Tiger 10.4.11 on one partition and Sorbet Leopard on another.

Finally found a new use for my old classic iPod, now used as a fast external drive through the Firewire port.
Blazingly fast compared to using a thumdrive on the USB 1ports :)

Sunday I am going to pick up a Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz/2GB/15", to complete my early 00's Apple collection!

I'd love to have a Sawtooth as well, but alas, I have to keep the missus happy as well, and while the lampshade iMac and the Powerbook are repectively "cute" and "small" enough, the sawtooth is less to her liking

And another one :)
Almost mint condition. No scratches, apart from the bottom (which still has all 4 rubber feet), no wear and tear on the surface of the keyboard keys...

118 cycles on the battery, still lasts several hours.

The elderly gent who owned it before still put a protection sheet between the screen and keyboard everytime he closed it, 15 years after buying it!

Got Sequoyah up and running, tried a 1GB PC133 DIMM for a Roland Fantom keyboard and it didn't even recognize the stick's existence. Thought I was being clever.
Doesn't have a hard drive installed, so I'm using the iBook in target disk mode as a boot medium for now, essentially turning this $3,499 computer into a laptop dock until I can get Oddball's hard drive and put that in there while waiting on a SATA card.
In the back you can see Kennedy and Benbridge.

Oh man, thanks for finding this out. I was thinking about trying some 1GB PC133s in the Six Dollar eMac but I was unsure of whether or not it would actually work. Two 512s it is, then. :(

Speaking of the Six Dollar eMac, something's on the way that will absolutely elevate it.

i picked mine up from usedmac. i think i paid with shipping is around $300USD (thats including shipping to Canada)
...I'm sorry, what??? I have one of those cards, I got it 10 years ago for free from the electronics recycling place I used to work at in high school. The only thing wrong with it was a bad fan (it worked, but had a bad bearing so was horribly loud), which I swapped for some 10$ eBay fan that works fine. That's... vastly more than I thought it was worth.

300$ USD is probably more than I've paid for my whole vintage Mac collection total, I had no idea it was worth that kind of money. It's just been doing basic video duty in my 466 MHz G4 Digital Audio for years, since the slow CPU strongly limits its potential as an OS 9 gaming machine. Jeez, I wonder if I have anything else sitting around that's 8-10x more valuable than I thought...

My new Lamp toy ... (and first iMac - got it last week Sunday from flea market)..... had booting to os-hanging- problems , cooper bloc is glued to main chassis. (total fiasco) had bad ram and no CPU paste.

Imac G4 PowerMac6,1 , 17inch

Upgraded inside ram to 1gb (but it wont see it - just 512mb, need to change it again).

Works great. (I Hope the new war not catch up to me , I am only a few hundred km away.)

Cool PowerMac... I just use 2x old large IDE drives in mine (G4MDD) , one is 500gb.

L.E. My old G4 single cpu sees all SDR... I think I have a 1 gb sdr module in and 2x256 , I need to check(was so long I forgot what I installed).
