My PowerMac G4 MDD, dual 1.25 GHz with 1.5 gigs of RAM and 17 inch Cinema Display. The last and fastest Mac that could officially boot Mac OS 9.
I am being a pedant here… it was the fastest, but not the last! When the G5 was launched Apple quietly launched along side it a last, legacy Power Mac G4 - a single 1.25Ghz machine specifically for those who still needed OS 9. It was basically a re-introduction of the 2002 model, but is technically the ‘last’ Power Mac to officially be able to boot into Mac OS 9.x.

That’s what my machine is, with the dual 1.25Ghz option.

Ah. That differs from my memory. I thought that upon release of the G5 the new G4 option was only available as a single 1.25Ghz machine, as OS 9 could never really take advantage of dual processor configurations - so having a dual processor machine marketed as an OS 9 legacy computer would not make sense. I didn’t think there was a dual option retained at that point! (I’m only saying this as I was one of the people who bought the single 1.25Ghz machine as it was MUCH cheaper than a G5 at the time and would do what I needed it to at Uni!)

LowEndMac does note that the identically specced dual 1.25Ghz machine was discontinued on introduction of the single processor.

Does yours have FireWire 400 or 800 ports as the stock IO?

Just FireWire 400 and no AirPort Extreme option.

You are of course absolutely right! You're sat there looking at the physical machine with two processors in it sat right in front of you with some plonker on the internet telling you otherwise!

I take it all back and apologise... my mistake completely! I don't know why I had it in my head so firmly that there was only a single processor option for the June 2003 PMG4 models, but I managed to get onto Apple's website from July of 2003 and here we are, in black and white:

Sorry sorry sorry!

Now I am kind of jealous though... I want your dual 1.25! I currently have a single processor 800Mhz Quicksilver. Though if your MDD is anything like mine its a noisy little bugger!

Sorry again!

It's all good, we are all friends here. Its a good machine but I don't run it very often because it is rather noisy and they are prone to power supply failure. I have even been considering using my ADC to DVI adapter with it to take strain off the power supply.

The June 2003 1.25 MDD was a single CPU only (and last Powermac G4) - the Jan 2003 1.25 MDD was dual CPU with FW800 (and can't boot OS9.)

The earlier Aug 2002 dual 1.25 MDD was FW400 but had 2Mb L3 cache and can boot OS9 (the later dual 1.25 only had 1Mb L3.)

The June 2003 version had a dual 1.25 option that is mentioned in the above screenshot.

Sorry for the run around and thanks for pointing it out - I've never come across that configuration or seen it mentioned before - I had the 2002 Dual and a couple of the 2003 Singles.
You hit the same memory block/lapse as I did! But Mr Spock is quite correct, and they own one of the unicorns! There must have been so few of the 2003 DP 1.25's made... they must be a bit like gold dust! It would appear Apple were just getting rid of a glut of 1.25Ghz PPC G4 processors that were in their inventory at the time!

I think what threw me off was the notion they'd put out a dual 1.25 inferior to the one from the year before - I guess they must've priced it lower?

Oh yeah, much lower! I think the 2003 dual 1.25 was priced at somewhere around $1600 in the US, which was fantastically cheap at the time. I think I paid around £1250 for the single 1.25 WITH a 17” Apple Studio Display (with an education discount), which seemed like an incredible deal at the time! I think an iMac with an education discount was something around £600 back then.

Oh man, thanks for finding this out. I was thinking about trying some 1GB PC133s in the Six Dollar eMac but I was unsure of whether or not it would actually work. Two 512s it is, then. :(

Speaking of the Six Dollar eMac, something's on the way that will absolutely elevate it.
i had 2x1gb sticks in my 1.25ghz emac with no problem and it recognized all 2gb. not sure if the earlier models will use that much though

New addition: iMac G4 (the cutest Mac ever made). Arrived VERY dirty, and VERY dead (£20 eBay purchase). When opened up realised the ATA ribbon connector had been totally removed, and the drive caddy was missing its entire HDD (must have died at some point, was removed but not replaced). Entire thing full of dust. A good clean, a new IDE HDD and an install of 10.4 later and it is now happily on my desk (in place of my Macintosh Classic which is now displayed on a shelf).

So happy with the little beauty!
