I think the DC-in board on mine is dead/dying. Charges intermittently and rarely, if ever, turns on.

My PB's would short out and make the adapter cut off temporarily. I need a new logic board because mine randomly locks up. I also need a new top case because my trackpad is dead. My battery will not work unless you squeeze it and any movement after you get it to cut on and stay on will make it cut off. I do not have a power adapter for it because when I was using the one for it with my PB the wire melted when the DC and Sound Card shorted out. It smoked and sparks flew near the adapter end. If it did this while I was not home I would be out a house and PowerBook.

Does the fan run full blast when it does not cut on?

Ok then it is not the logic board. I would try taking the bottom cover off and reseating the power cable that runs to the DC In board

then try the power button cable.

If that does not work use sleep instead of shut down.

iMpathetic where did you buy your PowerBook from and were did you sell it?

check the power button cable

If you find any cheap NEW logic boards for 14" 1.2 GHz iBooks let me know. USED ones are in the $300dreds but I want a new one as they only last 6 months - 2 years. If I keep it it will make a nice server as I will not need to fix the mouse or the battery.

What model is your PB? Mine is the 1.67 GHz with 1280*854 screen and was the first with the scrolling trackpad and sudden motion sensor.

And has anybody had an external hard drive lock up?

How many apple power adapters have you had fail for white iBooks /G4 PBs I gave up on apple power adapters after having 2 fail. luckly my PB came with a 3RD party one. I only have one between the PowerBook and the iBook

Yep, I've had five fail on me under warranty. Apple replaced them again and again without hesitancy, but it was really annoying to have to keep taking them in.

Those PPC power adapters (the ones with the circular light that were not magnetic) were just so poorly made. I mean, the thing bends (the connecter) if you even flex it a tiny bit. I wish it had magsafe....

My only working one wiggles now and falls out all the time. And it is a 3rd party. Apple ones DIE.

How many times am i going to have to plug crazy the thing back in?

That is my 500mhz cube server (running leopard server:cool:) I have another Cube (450mhz) that im not using at the mo
(pondering whether to sell it or not) and i have the 600mhz G3 iMac too.

My Apple charger that came with my iBook G4 works great. The one 3rd party adapter I bought for my white G3 crapped out a few months ago. I guess my luck is opposite.

My parents weren't happy with my hobby. In fact, I'm not allowed to buy any more computers. :( Otherwise, we'd have us a little contest going on here. :p

And I am basically all PPC anyway. My mini is dead basically, it only turns on sometimes and it's missing its optical drive, hard drive and pretty much everything else, so I don't count it as a computer. ;) My iBook G4 is me "flagship" macine. (Though I am looking for an eMac for a new desktop Mac.)

Did you take your Mini's hard drive and optical drive for your iBook?

And what is it's specs?

How do people have problems with computers only turning on sometimes. I would just leave it on all the time.

Well, it turns OFF randomly as well.

I thought about putting the superdrive in it, but I don't think I have the experience to do it. The hard drive, haven't really thought about it. But I've heard it's even harder to do.

Specs of the thing were (are, depending on how you look at it)
1.83 GHz Core Duo
2 GB RAM (After the accident, before it was 512 MB)
80 GB HDD
Superdrive
10.4.11

My parents insist I shut down everything at night to save energy. I shut down my iBook anyway, so I'm used to it. (Basically what happened to the mini was I accidentally chipped a resistor off of the logic board when I was upgrading the RAM. I can get it to work by holding it in place sometimes, but it doesn't always work. As far missing the optical drive and hard drive and such, the mini has a little plastic holder for both of them which they connect to, and I threw that piece away when I thought it didn't work anymore. Yeah, I'm an idiot.)

It's not that hard, I re-seated my DC-in board the other day.

Intimidating, but if you have more than two brain cells, cracking open an iBook G4 is not that hard.
