Maybe it's part of growing up in a rural area, but we've always had guns and we always carry a knife. Now that I'm in college it goes with me everywhere, second nature, just like my wallet or phone or keys.

Pish! I live in a rural area and we don't carry around guns or knives! But then again this is England.
My friend has a few knives like yours. Notably that large hunting knife above the axe (which he also has). He has a few large knives, a flick knife, a taser, kubotans, nunchucks, some WW1 sword and a (legal) shotgun locked in the attic. I'll try and get a photo of it all.

You seriously carry a (apparently fairly big) sheath knife around college with you every day? Don't the local law enforcement take a bit of an interest in that?

Edit: unless you mean the small folder - it's a bit hard to tell exactly which one you mean by "above the axe".

Yes, I mean the silver one above the head. The one with the black blade is actually a Ka Bar, used by the Marines since WWII.

The way I understand the knife laws here you could carry it as long as it isn't concealed if you wanted too, I doubt it would work on campus though. Many of the guys on campus carry pocket knives like mine clearly visible and there's no problem because they are used as tools and not just because somebody peaved you off.

I was taught safety and respect for knives and firearms from a young age. I thing education is vastly more important and effective than trying to protect people from themselves. I also think this applies to everything.;)

Spyderco Delica

Wonderful choice. I carry a well worn, but razor sharp, stainless delica plain edge nearly every day. Only when wearing a suit do I switch to the much smaller Spyderco Ladybug.

I've also got an Endura, custom Native (titanium liners, clip, micarta handle), Ontario Rat3 and a custom Ranger based on the RD7. I use a spyderco sharpmaker and mdf with various rubbing compounds to keep them all extremely sharp.

Just such an alien concept to me, carrying offensive* weapons.

*offensive as in, not defensive. Not as in, I'm offended.

knives arent weapons, they are tools, people just use them in the wrong way which makes them weapons. Swords, yes weapons, pocket knives, bowie knives, kitchen knives, etc are tools.

I've always had a thing for knives and weapons in general. Most of them are cheapos.
The Buck above the axe is what I carry, and up until cutting insulation and carpet at work had stayed pretty sharp. The Ka Bar is my latest, and probably most expensive.

No pics of my wallhangers and I'm feeling lazy.:p
I'll have to get some pics of them and some of my shields and stuff that I've made. I have a couple board bows that I've started and haven't finished. I was going to a while back but couldn't find my Dacron for the string.:(

I will definitely NOT be trespassing on your property....LOL :D

I just have a few kitchen knives, nothing scary or Bear Grylles-esque...:)

ended up with one on the wrong side of security right after 9/11 and had to throw it away before i boarded the plane... they were doing random searches at the gate before boarding back then

Woof, Woof – Dawg
pawprint.gif

Hah, funny story about that. I was working at Portland International Airport about a year ago for the launch of NWA's direct European flight, and came in through the vendor gate onto the tarmac and into the terminal that way, with only a vehicle search. I had brought with me my backpack which had my laptop in it so that durring the show I could sit and browse the net, completley forgetting that I had a total of 6 knives including my two benchmade autos in the bag, which I had picked up from the sharpener two days prior. In addition to the knives in the backpack, I also had my toolbag which had a Olfa mini-razor knife, plus about 40 replacement blades. Oh, and also had a Kershaw clipped inside my pocket.

Once inside the airport, I met with Airport security to get my ID badge, but they had misspelled my name by one letter in my last name. Because security is "so tight" there, being off by one character made the badge invalid, meaning that I would not be able to do my job, and that approval for another badge would take up to 8 hours. The president of NWA decided that they would have ticketing give me a boarding pass for the inaugural flight to Amsterdam so that I could continue with my work for the ceremony.

So I go out through security out to ticketing, leaving my tool bag and backpack full of knives sitting on the concorse unattended, and completley forgetting about the knife still clipped to my pocket. I get the boarding pass for the international flight, go back through security with the knife clipped to my pocket without triggering the metal detector, and make my way back out to the concorse, now as a ticketed passenger for an international flight, with a bag full of knives as a carry-on.

I never did occur to me for the rest of the day that I had my knife on me as I am just so used carrying it, or until the following day that there were so many knives in my backpack. I felt pretty stupid and very lucky needless to say.

I just can't help but laugh about the whole thing now.

Don't those things actually hurt your hand more than if you just used your bare fist?

Even so, I'm sure it's going to hurt the other guy more.

Here's part of my junk collection.
The first 3 are wallhangers. The 5th one is one I made, but never finished since I have no way to heat treat it. Next one a bokken I made in woods class in HS. A spear I made from a broom stick. Finally my board bow, then the redo, neither of which are finished.

Here's a simple round shield with not-so-period grips.

An unfinished spangenhelm. I need to find a good size metal sphere to planish on.

My unfinished maille. It should go relatively quickly now that I found a much faster (and easier on the hand) way to cut rings. I tend to forget about it for long periods of time, then work on it for a few weeks. Back and forth.

Surely you can't find a trend. :p
I love making stuff and I love medieval and roman arms and armour.
If you have questions I'm more than willing to share my little bit of knowledge.

There's some more and a few descriptions on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/pointclick/sets/72157600262216763/
Some of my other projects on there too. Gotta love biodiesel. :D Too many interests. Going to find a way to get rich so I can spend my time learning.
