Here's my latest setup. Components sit in the bottom right shelf, not a wire in site. speakers are definitive UIW RCS III and UIWRSS II's for rear and a polk paw 111 sub. Running of an old Denon 3803 i've had since 2003, hoping to upgrade next year. TV is a 60" LG lb7100 that i did a custom inset mount. got an attic antenna, Apple TV 4th gen and an xbone for sources.

Can you post some more details on how you made the frame for the TV ?

Don't have any pictures of my TV, but it really does look as good as the promotional pictures. It has it's flaws (some picture-sound sync issues, poor smart tv functions, UHD limitations) but I've yet to find a better looking TV and the ambilight really tops things off!

philips-7809.jpg

It's connected to a Philips 2.1 soundbar (wires to external speaker became a no-no when children arrived) and video is through Virgin TiVo and aTV4. I have a Philips Blu-ray player too, but can't remember the last time I used it!

My old Panasonic plasma is still alive, added a Yamaha receiver and AppleTV last year when the Kenwood died after two decades of service. Not pictured are the Bose speakers used as rear channels.

Be good to get a run-through on how you hid all the wires too, especially the Kinect.

I got lucky with this house. The two book cases on either side pushed the wall out a few inches over the mantle. I had a 6" gap in which in inset the TV. I built the frame out of 1x5 inch common boards, then used the box as a template to cut out the hole above the fireplace. (Behind the mantel was actually drywall over top of tongue and groove wood paneling. There wasn't a traditional 2x4 frame underneath, which left the space behind the mantel more or less vacant.)
IMG_3185.jpg

I mounted the box into the cutout and attached it to the bricks behind using a slim mount articulating tv mount which came with 6 inch concrete anchors. On the side of the the tv box i mounted a power outlet and a couple of ethernet runs and a hole to run HDMI cables from the TV to the receiver. The articulating slim tv mount which allows me to pull the TV out around 30 inches for cabling changes etc.
IMG_3214.jpg

The AV cables and speaker cables are run on the sides of each of the book cases inside the wall. The AV Cables are run on the right side through a hole in the frame and snaked down beside the book case to the lower shelf on the right side. The kinect is run through the same hole, but comes out on a small hole cut out behind the kinect. Speaker wires are run down the left side from the attic to the basement (unfinished) and across to the bottom to the shelf where the AV receiver sits. Speakers power & ethernet are supplied under the shelf for the receiver which is on drawer slides.

You can see the wires coming out on the right side shelves. They're now hidden with DVDs
IMG_3423.jpg

I framed in the box using some chair railing that i found at a local lumber yard. Chair railing comes in a variety of different profiles and widths. I build the frame piece by piece to test fit, then used metal splines to join the mitered corners for extra strength. Once the frame was together full, i checked for level and attached it to the face of the tv box with a finish nailer.

WOW! Amazing job well done! I plan to do similar when I have my own house.

Any chance the other pictures in your post could be higher resolution? I'd like to see detail of the 2nd photo with the cutout and concrete anchors.

Best i can do: There are 4 Bolts that connect the mount to the brick. 2 on top 2 on the bottom which are concealed by a plastic trim covering. I also shot a few 1.5" drywall screws around the perimeter of the box into the old 1" tongue and groove siding that was under the drywall.

I haven't changed my main system much since my prior pic, but I did get an Epson projector and a 100 inch tripod screen that I get out on "movie/sports" night.

It takes about ten minutes to get everything setup, including squaring the picture with the screen, but we like it.
