If you have a technologically superior product, then your marketshare should rise.
And marketshare shows neither iOS nor Mac OS is technologically superior. The only product line Apple has that is technologically superior to the competition is iPad.

The iPhone had a great technological lead until Android.

The Mac had a number of technological advantages over Windows for a long time.

During times of technological advantage, price like it matters.

And there we go. MacBook Air announced. Bottom line is still $999.

So Apple did price it appropriately.

Yeah, so it looks like same price is the ultimate answer. And the poll looks just about right on the money.

P.S: I guess I'll get a MacBook Pro 13" again. Let's see what it can do.

Well... looks like the options are pretty much the same:

So yeah, I don't see the 13" Pro as a reduction in price at all. Mini with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD is also about $1299.

Would have liked more ports on the MacBook Pro 13. It looks like they are keeping the configurations pretty simple for now but I expect a version with four ports down the road. They decreased the ports in the Mac Mini as well.

I would have really liked to see some change in the chassis design to come with the new improvements under the hood. However, the chip specs look fantastic.

I'd love to see the benchmarks. The only thing giving me pause is the number of ports. I'm used to a ton of ports on my 2015 MBP 15 and I would have to switch over to USB C for everything. I hope that a 14 is in the works for early 2021.

No 4TB option is a dealbreaker for me.

Terrible way to end the day. I really wanted to order one so bad.

Personally I would trade the touch bar for more variety of I/O ports but I don't think apple is going to go backwards on this decision. I am just glad the are keeping the scissor switch keyboards.

Ordered the 13" Pro. At least it's not more expensive than the current options.

I'll see how it compares against the 16" Pro and see if it's time to let the 16" go until the next redesign. This seems to be the same playbook as the last transition: they'll stick with the same design and same-ish price for 2 years, then go for something drastically different later. No surprises in the mean time. They'll just continue to highlight how the all new all powerful Apple Silicon will outperform the old Intel line in the same chassis.

Everything thus far is... as expected. I guess the only thing that's a pleasant surprise for me is that the 13" Pro can actually reach 17 hours of battery life surfing the web. I had thought that it would only last about 15 (but hey, that's right on for the Air). In real world use, I'll probably expect closer to 10 under my heavy usage, but that's still better than the 3-4 I'm getting with the 16". And it's looking like the M1 should at least be competitive against the 16". We'll see.

16GB, 1TB.

To be fair, I don't really need all of the power of the 16", but the last 13" couldn't take on Fusion 360 properly especially at higher res. I'm hoping M1 will allow me to do that with the much more powerful GPU. Apple did demo Fusion 360 running just fine in Rosetta 2, so... that was my "you got me" moment.

I won't wait for an M1X/M2 chip because...

1. We still don't know if it's February, March, April or even WWDC.
2. If M1 works, then M1X is just overkill. Then there's the matter of whether M1X being more powerful will drop battery life.
3. Given M1's pricing, I can already guess what M1X's pricing will be.
4. Apple will still most likely go with the old design for those then.

TSMC just got on 5nm and the M1 is as a result of that. They won't move on to 3nm until around 2022... and that coincides nicely with the last transition playbook: 2 years after the "first ones", a redesign comes, with much more powerful chips.

2 USB4/Thunderbolt ports are enough for me. My "docking" solution at home is now a single Thunderbolt 3 cable for everything. So I in fact don't really use more than 1 port at any time.
