Sadly this week I accidentally chipped the bottom of the glass on my Pro Display XDR. This raised some questions in my mind— some we may only be able to speculate on, but I’m interested in what others experiences have been thus far.
First, I do have Apple Care+ on my Pro Display XDR that I pay annually (decided to go for that since it’s such an expensive display and there were enough reports of failure that I wanted mitigate that risk on such an expensive item).
This display has now been discontinued by Apple. I would guess that, for the short term, they have some level of inventory (displays and parts perhaps) to handle Apple Care claims for users who still have their Pro Displays covered. Is there precedence for what happens long term though in event of a failure? They did not replace this with another 32” display, so, at least for now, there’s nothing that exactly would work as a replacement. I know some people have gotten iPad upgrades through an AppleCare replacement.
My other question is more practical— anyone had a repair done for this? It is just cosmetic. But it’s painful to look at for such a nice display 😂 I do wonder if I should tackle this sooner than later given that this display is discontinued now.
