I got a M1 MBA and the xdr, I couldn’t notice any performance issues. If you have something you want me to test, happy to do so :)

What does your workflow look like? I have heard of the refresh rate dropping in hz, as well as stuttering when opening launch control.

I guess just overall a little rundown on your workflow and experience with the M1 + XDR would be appreciated. I'm a little reluctant to just sell off my 5600M equipped MBP but it seems like that may not be a horrible idea.

I would grab a baseline MBA just as a placeholder until the 16" M MBP's release. Decisions...

I feel more "cornered" to sell my MBP now before the 16's do get released.

Finally bit the bullet and purchased the XDR. Scheduled to arrive December 21st-23rd.

I ended up getting the stand because I wanted to be able to use the monitor right away and determine whether or not it's a keeper.... in the end I can't see myself keeping the stand at $1200 CAD... unless it's something really special, I'll return it and get the adapter... just wondering what stands/arms people are using? I've been looking and there's lots of options... looking for something that's easy to adjust...

It's expensive, there is no arguing that. However once you get it, you will see it is in a league of its own. Also never had a monitor this solid as far as the way it is mounted. I can shake my desk and the monitor just doesn't shake.

You will keep it, because if you go to a VESA mount...it is going to shake. Unless of course you have a desk that doesn't budge. I opted for one of the husky adjustable height benches on wheels so that I can move it around easily. It is kind of a hidden gem at Home Depot if you don't need an electronic standing desk. Industrial feel but doesn't look out of place in an office (white frame, wood top).

Congrats on the order. Please post your first impressions / first month impressions here if you find time.

I also did not think it was very fun to pay so much for the stand. I try to think of it as a part of the monitor itself. The quality of it is very high. It not only functions perfectly, it looks perfect with the xdr.

I suspect if you compare the price of a vesa stand and mount to the apple stand, the delta is worth it. Particularly at resale. But there are other folks in this thread who have been just fine without it too.

Does anyone know how to force ICC profile (sRGB) on the display? I know I can choose a preconfigure sRGB profile in the display settings but it doesn't expand the OS colors to fit the P3 gamut of the display. Which is fine when want to be accurate.

Usually, on other displays, I set the ICC sRGB profile in the Colors tab and it makes everything "pop" with brighter colors. Basically, it is not accurate but I love the way how all colors in terminal to browser look - not accurate but very vivid.

With the Apple Pro Display XDR, everything looks flat (correctly) since nothing in the OS takes advantage of large gamut except for images displayed with embedded ICC profiles in browsers like Chrome/Safari.

I would love to force a transfer function between sRGB to P3 gamut on the XDR display. Has anyone found a way to do this?

Do you happen to know if the USB ports on the XDR run at 3.0 or 2.0 speeds with the M1 MBA?

Put the order in for my Pro Display XDR and Pro Stand. I'm making a big change going all in on M1 Mac's.

Current setup is a triple 5K config (iMac Pro + two 5K Ultrafine's). Selling it all for XDR and maxed out Mac mini. Might be crazy, but I hope the one display is worth trading in my three 5K's.

I sure wouldn’t have done that. Way more usable screen space with multiple monitors. And the M1 is impressive, but the desktop class version of it can’t be that far off at this point and pretty good chance it impresses by an even more significant margin.

I am going to argue that usable screen space isn't the only variable in the formula. I would argue the overall experience and workflow is what matters.

I know I would rather have (1) XDR than 3 LG 5K Ultrafines after owning the XDR. The build quality and design is nothing short of incredible, it feels robust when you adjust it. The XDR does not shake with the stand.

It is also easier on my eyes.

It also never gets old walking into my office and seeing it paired next to my MBP. That to me is worth the price.

The only thing I would be careful with is the M1. I am hearing mixed feedback on how smooth it runs paired to an XDR.

Of course it depends on your workflow, but going from 3 monitors to 1 is a huge decrease in available desktop space no matter how you slice it. It’s also generally more useful to me to have one main app on one screen and e-mail/web/etc on the other instead of having all the screen space in a single 16:9 display. YMMV.

anyone else here with a shipping delay? I ordered my Pro Display XDR 2 Weeks ago at the German Apple Store. It should have arrived a week ago. Apple shipped the Pro Display XDR on November 21 via UPS. The delivery day was marked by UPS for November 23. But nothing happened until yesterday. It only left the UPS Facility yesterday with a delivery day for today. But its delayed again now. I have my Mac Pro 7.1 since 2 Weeks now, already sold my 5K Ultrafine Monitor, didn't expect such a huge delay with UPS..

Not too sure as I am in the states but I hope it gets to you soon. Also word of advice:

Do not open the box using the quick pull tabs. Separate an end (tough because of glue) carefully without tearing the cardboard. This will make returning much easier in the event you don't like it and it needs to go back for any reason.

Sorry, no idea - if you go back 1-2 weeks in this thread you can find some debug/system output. Not sure if that’s somewhere in there

Where is this mixed feedback? Keen to see/hear others experiences as I couldn’t find any issues with my M1 MBA so far, but I might not stress it enough (it’s for private use, got a separate work-MBP + egpu)

The approved spectraradiometers are 3X the cost of the XDR. So I don't know how many people here will run the calibration tool. :)

Not currently (or even at all). Unless Apple opens up a way for cheaper alternative calibration solutions.

Not trying to be too snarky, but even if you could use it, you'd screw up the XDR more than help it. Something would have had to go terribly wrong with the XDR to where you'd want to trust the very crude Spyder X Pro in attempt to calibrate/fix.

Not currently (or even at all). Unless Apple opens up a way for cheaper alternative calibration solutions.

I wonder if there will ever be a market to have a 3rd party calibration service for the XDR? After a few years of using it, you could send it off to be calibrated and/or measured for drift.

Re-posting this here:

Apple Patent Filing Reveals Dual Monitor Stand for Pro Display XDR

A new patent filing reveals a much more versatile multi-display variant of Apple's Pro Stand for the Pro Display XDR. The extremely complex mechanical design seeks to address the shortcomings of existing multi-display solutions, offering easy and precise adjustment for up to two external displays.

dual pro stand patent 1

The patent, first spotted by Patently Apple, is simply titled "Dual Display Stand," and was first filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in May 2019.

The filing outlines a large display stand with two spaced-apart legs, connected by a horizontal support bar that allows two displays to be attached. The stand allows for an extraordinary level of precise adjustment and control, with vertical, horizontal, and center pivot degrees of freedom. Apple offers a brief description of the improvements offered by the stand in the patent.

The display stand provides improved smoothness, rigidity, and comfort for the user to support and use multiple displays on a single stand.
dual pro stand patent 2

The stand seems to use the same moveable joints as the existing Pro Stand, but places them on shuttles and a rail for horizontal adjustment. A central joint on the support bar allows the stand to adjust the angle between the displays....
