I wish they offered a desktop mount version that securely bolted to the desk via one single pole the way I'm using a 2-monitor setup right now with the XDR.

My XDR will arrive on Tuesday :D

Now the big question: since my M1 Mac mini is on backorder, should I wait to hook up the XDR, or use it in 4K/5K mode with an existing Mac I have around here?

Not trying to be too snarky, but even if you could use it, you'd screw up the XDR more than help it. Something would have had to go terribly wrong with the XDR to where you'd want to trust the very crude Spyder X Pro in attempt to calibrate/fix.
You mean like the basic passage of time? Monitors simply don't stay calibrated if you use them.

I completely understand that monitor calibration does indeed drift. And I still think that even a "drifted" XDR wouldn't be helped by a colorimeter such as a Spyder X Pro.

after weeks of waiting, my Apple PRO XDR Display will finally arrive today. That was a huge delay by Apple this time.
I will use it with my 2019 Mac Pro. I bought a MacMini M1 at my local Apple Store today for some Office Work to replace an old iMac. Im really curious how the M1 Mac Mini will perform with the XDR Display, maybe i will consider a second XDR Display just for the MacMini.

What is everyone's firmware? I received mine only a couple of months ago but its still on the 1.22.26 and its not updating to the latest. I'm on Bigsur latest update and everything is on auto update so really confused.

Please report back regarding your experiences with the M1 mini + XDR. I feel fairly confident that the mini will be able to drive the XDR without issues, but I haven't seen/read about any first hand user experiences.

I got the suggestion to update dropdown this morning. Went ahead with the reboot and it showed up.

Support article suggests disconnecting the display from power as a way to possibly trigger the update. See here. I'll add this to OP.

really strange. I followed the guide and disconnected and rebooted and nothing. at the very least, I should have the older firmware, not the first version.

Delivery date just got pushed to December 31st :( Still processing... stand has shipped 😂

I believe also making sure the option to "Automatically keep my Mac up to date" helps. I checked this setting, then removed the power supply from the monitor. When I plugged it back up, it instantly gave me the option to update the firmware. Before that I never got an update the day before.

When did you order and what country are you in?

I ordered Nov 28, and my delivery is Dec 8.
Same date. I'm in Canada. The stand is scheduled to arrive by next Friday by UPS... which is about 1.5 weeks ahead of Apple's estimate... so maybe I will get lucky

Has anyone ever noticed a light buzzing sound from the back of their displays? It’s not something I generally hear but was curious if this was normal.

im typing this while using my new M1 MacMini with my XDR Display. So far I don't had any issues. Im testing it since 3-4 hours now, everything is working great. The only tiny lag I notice is when I open the Launchpad, everything else is working flawless. Im really impressed of the MacMini. I bought the base Mac mini with 512gb for the office stuff, but the performance is amazing. For sure its not on par with my MacPro2019 but in many tasks its pretty close. Cant wait to see the new Pro AS Macs coming next year.

Thanks for the report. My 8GB/512GB M1 mini arrives on Monday, with the XDR on Tuesday. So I'll be up and running in short order.

It's quirky. I recall having to disable the auto update settings, turning them back on. Completely powering everything down (mac and display), restarting them, etc. and it took a try or two and finally it just came up and said accessory update ready to install. The key was a full power down and disconnect for the display _and_ Mac Pro.

So I had to disconnect the monitor, unplug it, restart my Mac and a day later the update message appeared. Most bizarre way to update I had ever experienced.

Yeah, they should just have an update firmware button for all your devices in the Settings menu. Strange way Apple chooses to update.

Hello friends,
I've been using my display with a new MacPro for a couple of months and something has started to bother me.

I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this (is this normal) or if I need to have my monitor looked at by Apple. When I boot my Mac, the apple and loading bar underneath appear just fine. When the bar gets just past the halfway point the screen goes black. Then a few seconds later it will flash a few times (with the apple and bar being visible). During one of these flashes the apple logo and bar appear super small in the upper left hand corner for a second and then recenter. Sometimes when the bar is fully loaded the desktops fades-in as expected. But sometimes the screen remains black for a few seconds (after the computer should be booted up) and then the desktop suddenly appears (it doesn't fade in) - almost like the monitor just woke-up.

Which brings me to my second issue. When I wake my computer up from sleep, with either the mouse or keyboard, it can take up to 7 seconds for the desktop to appear. It just remains black for several seconds and then suddenly snaps on. It definitely isn't an instant on.

Anyone else experience this? Thanks!

I agree that it would be much more straightforward to just allow it to be updated on demand. I get it for something like the Homepod, but I don't like that for the Pro display.

I have not had this problem, and it doesn't sound particularly good to me. What machine are you connected to? It seems like I've seen these kind of resolution / placement oddities when connecting externals to laptops, but I don't think it aught to be happening in any overt way w the Pro or compatible machines.

This I can relate to, and had been planning to post in this thread. I started noticing maybe a few weeks ago that my "cold" starts of the monitor in the mornings are now taking a really long time for the monitor to come up. I feel like I have to waggle the mouse a ton, and if I don't stick with waggling, the pro display isn't going wake up. Sort of like how I try to ignore my cat's meows early in the morning.

I suppose I should have posted something prior, but it has only affected wake from deep sleep (much longer than the 2 hours I have Turn display off after on Energy Saver.

I forget about it for the entire rest of the day. Part of me has wondered if I was just paying more attention.

That said, I have not changed any settings on sleep or energy saver and I do not feel like it was like this from say June until maybe late October / early November. I am pretty sure that the monitor was previously more responsive to wake regardless of if it had been powered down or not.

I'm still running 10.15.7 because this is a mission critical machine, though I updated to the new 4.2.30 firmware a few days ago and it happened each morning before and since. I don't have issues apart from mornings.

My setup is: 2018 mac mini -> rx580 blackmagic egpu -> pro. I haven't really tried to troubleshoot this at all, but I thought I'd reply just the same. @Jawko please post more details of your setup if you can,
