Yeah, they should just have an update firmware button for all your devices in the Settings menu. Strange way Apple chooses to update.
I agree that it would be much more straightforward to just allow it to be updated on demand. I get it for something like the Homepod, but I don't like that for the Pro display.
I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this (is this normal) or if I need to have my monitor looked at by Apple. When I boot my Mac, the apple and loading bar underneath appear just fine. When the bar gets just past the halfway point the screen goes black...
I have not had this problem, and it doesn't sound particularly good to me. What machine are you connected to? It seems like I've seen these kind of resolution / placement oddities when connecting externals to laptops, but I don't think it aught to be happening in any overt way w the Pro or compatible machines.
Which brings me to my second issue. When I wake my computer up from sleep, with either the mouse or keyboard, it can take up to 7 seconds for the desktop to appear. It just remains black for several seconds and then suddenly snaps on. It definitely isn't an instant on.
This I can relate to, and had been planning to post in this thread. I started noticing maybe a few weeks ago that my "cold" starts of the monitor in the mornings are now taking a really long time for the monitor to come up. I feel like I have to waggle the mouse a ton, and if I don't stick with waggling, the pro display isn't going wake up. Sort of like how I try to ignore my cat's meows early in the morning.
I suppose I should have posted something prior, but it has only affected wake from deep sleep (much longer than the 2 hours I have Turn display off after on Energy Saver.
I forget about it for the entire rest of the day. Part of me has wondered if I was just paying more attention.
That said, I have not changed any settings on sleep or energy saver and I do not feel like it was like this from say June until maybe late October / early November. I am pretty sure that the monitor was previously more responsive to wake regardless of if it had been powered down or not.
I'm still running 10.15.7 because this is a mission critical machine, though I updated to the new 4.2.30 firmware a few days ago and it happened each morning before and since. I don't have issues apart from mornings.
My setup is: 2018 mac mini -> rx580 blackmagic egpu -> pro. I haven't really tried to troubleshoot this at all, but I thought I'd reply just the same.
@Jawko please post more details of your setup if you can,
