I've been a consistent Pro Max user since they were released many years ago, but have contemplated a switch up to the Air. Really my only hesitation is the camera setup, would only miss the wide angle lens. . . Not worried about battery life as I can 99% of the time charge somewhere.

Thoughts?

If you use the wide angle lens a lot or even use your camera on a daily basis I wouldn’t get it

Unless it can match the camera and battery life of the Pro Max( I don’t think it will )then it’s a dealbreaker for me
Then what would the point of making the Pro Max be? Someone wanting a heavier and thicker phone that’s the same? Seriously though what you’re asking for is not possible.

Absolutely no chance!

And I genuinely don’t see who this phone is for either. I have a feeling it will go the way of the mini and not sell well.
For people who want a thin and light phone? I’m using a 14 Pro Max and I’m looking forward to it

Good for you and I genuinely hope you enjoy it.

However, I stand by what I said tho: IMO it won’t sell well: massive camera downgrade, massive battery downgrade, single speaker, no MagSafe… Is what I have heard. Of course we don’t know the price yet (do we?) but that is going be very interesting.

I certainly am, but I’ll wait for final specs before making the call. If the Air has ProMotion it’ll be in consideration. The rumoured binned Pro chip would add some weight as well. Cameras don’t worry me, as I have a Nikon Z6II, so the phone camera has become less important to me as the technology has progressed. I’d still want to be able to capture Cinematic video with HDR.

I’m on a 14PM now, and I don’t want to go down to a non-max screen size, so the rumoured size is workable. What probably worries me the most is the lack of physical SIM slot. I moved countries 2 years ago and retain a SIM from my home country which I need for various authentication (mainly banks but also accounting software). If I can convert that physical SIM to an eSIM online, that problem is solved, but that’s probably the biggest barrier for me with the Air at present.

You’re probably right about the sales. It’s hard to say what will sell. You can’t go by what people say on here because there are so many people that claimed they wanted the mini but likely never bought it. I don’t think it will be a massive battery downgrade but if it lasts all day, that’s all I need. Right now my 14 Pro Max last all day with at least 40% reserve. It has to be almost to that level. As to all the other features you mentioned, that’s not really important to me. I don’t use my phone for music without headphones. The MagSafe is a little annoying because I do have some MagSafe stuff.

Your 14 Pro Max has a SIM slot? Mine doesn’t. I kind of wish it would have but I’ve given up on that thought.

All iPhones outside US have a sim slot. U have to import one if u need
I wonder if they are configured to different cellular channels as well. I’m sure it would work but would a iPhone from outside the USA would not be able to receive certain channels so maybe have poor reception in areas.

The size and weight of the Pro’s (max or standard) are what bug me the most. Even though the camera will be inferior to the Pro’s I will definitely be buying an Air when they are released. If I decide I need to revert back to a Pro then so be it. I absolutely loved my 13 Mini and was gutted when they discontinued them. A thinner lighter iPhone…yes please! 🙏

I would either get the base model or a Plus but not the Air. I would get a mini instead of the Air.

Not me. I've only had my 16PM since November, so I'll be sitting out the next couple of release cycles (unless I get an incurable itch). I'll be interested to see how it sells and I'll be enjoying some reviews of it as well.

Since no one here has seen or tested an iPhone Air I have no comments yet. Except that I strongly doubt that a substantially thinner phone will provide the camera competence of the iPhone Pros, so the iPhone Air will probably not be for me.

It does, indeed. Purchased in New Zealand.

I've been using 15 Pro and 16 Pro. I will most likely switch to 17 base model. I'm too tired of the weight of the Pro phones, and them being front heavy because of the cameras, which make them feel even heavier.
But the 17 Air? Nah. Too many compromises in terms of battery and camera.
Also, I assume Apple will price the Air to be very very expensive.

The Pro Max prioritizes the camera and battery life at the expense of weight and size.

The Air prioritizes lightness and compactness, possibly at the expense of the camera and battery.

So it really just comes down to what you want to prioritize, which one suits you better.

Personally, I’ve gone with the regular iPhone model even though some of the Pro features are tempting. The reason is simple: I find the Pro (Max) way too heavy. That’s why the Air is a really interesting model for people who want that premium feel but don’t need a “Hollywood-level” camera or a massive battery.

By the way, get ready for some backlash if you like the Air. There’s already a noticeable number of people on the forums, apparently Pro Max users, who seem annoyed by the Air’s very existence. A typical comment is, “I don’t see who this phone is for.” In other words, because they don’t find it useful, no one should. Their needs are the only reasonable ones, and no alternatives are necessary.

There are some bands differences. Best to check on apples websites. But in general international guests in US don’t have to buy a new phone for holiday to have reception;)

Unless they bring the same huge sensor and ProRAW in here. Pro all the way. It feels like living in prehistoric ages without ProRAW. Also rumors tell it won’t have physical sim worldwide which is no-go to me as I often swap sims and don’t wanna rely on carrier for doing that or undergo weird migration procedures

I can see the Air working for people who want an iPhone on lower price point and are not as worried about camera.
For me I’m Pro user and I made that choice mainly for the camera, didn’t go Max because I didn’t want that size.

As an aside I still have 12 Mini I use for work. It wasn’t my main phone so that seemed to be a good option and I’ve never had any issues with it.

The same people said similar things about the 16e (which they also never bothered trying firsthand) - fast forward to a month or two post-release and every youtube video on it is called "I was wrong, it's good"

I can see the complete range going eSim globally, or at least here in the UK.
Currently I’m still on physical sim on my iPhone, so it’ll be interesting to see how my next upgrade goes. Maybe best to change to eSim beforehand.🤷‍♂️

I recently had to change my iPad, and changed the sim to eSIM first then did the move as part of the migration.
Only issue is that you need both devices.
Fortunately I was able to sit in the Apple Store and do the migration whilst having a Vision Pro demo to pass the time.

Not sure how how easy it’ll be for people to regularly move/change eSIM.
The process is a little clunkier than just switching a physical one. Hopefully the carrier apps will make it easier.
