I have an iMac, MacBook and iPhone... and an iPad....

I think the iPad is an oversized iPod Touch.

I'm ok with that. :)

There is nothing wrong with that, because the size difference allows for difference in apps and capabilities.

I really do not care what other people think, but if it bothers you, just tell them their netbooks are just underpowered laptops and just move on with life. ;)

Exactly! My issue is the misconception that it can really be a netbook/laptop replacement.

Lack of an accessible file system or printing & iTunes nanny are all still present albeit with a larger screen and a few more updated features.

Does anyone out there hear from Windows users not understanding the iPad and they immediately call it a oversized iPod? That really gets my blood boiling! They are either jealous of the iPad or they won't admit that it could actually change how people use computers in different environments.

A University in Pennsyvania are going to issue their students their own iPad for a certain class. I missed all the details however the University obviously thinks highly of the device or why would they do this?

It just bothers me when theses Windows Users think they have the greatest machine and operating system ( Which by the way includes includes all the viruses and spyware you can want LOL).

Does anyone else get this stupid feedback from people that thinks that their HP Slate will be so much better with all their viruses and spyware and so on?
Or people that think that the iPad is nothing but a oversized iPod?

Any opinion?

Most of the people are dumb. When it comes to technology. You will find millions of past quotes of how great inventions were faced with the typical "I don't need this", "what is it good for", or it is "too expensive".

Even bill gates said once "128k should be enough for everyone" or something to that effect. Even tech-savvy forum members here. Check the iPod release thread (aka thread 500). Unfortunately, 99% of people lack any sort of vision of how the future can be.

The only thing similar between the iPad and an iPod Touch is the user interface.
A Ferrari has the same user interface (gas, brake, clutch, and steering wheel) as a Ford Focus, but they're completely different machines – otherwise incomparable.
Same with the iPad vis-a-vis iPod Touch.

Well... to be fair... it probably is a laptop replacement for me.

It's going to depend on what the user uses a laptop for. For the majority of people who use a laptop as their "get stuff done" device... the iPad is not a replacement.

For me, though... thats what my iMac does... and my MacBook has been my travel/portable media device. The iPad is 1/4 the weight and has a battery that lasts 2-3x longer... so yeah, it will be *my* laptop replacement... but I suspect I'm not the norm in that regard. :)

Really? Besides it being larger, how exactly is it a LOT different?

I'm sorry - I guess in your world a Corvette and a Toyota Corolla are not a lot different.

There are different feelings of having the top down in the Corvette vs. having the windows open in the Toyota Corolla.

Car analogies are getting old and aren't quite accurate.

A close car analogy is a bare bones Civic compared to a barebones Accord or a loaded Civic compared to a loaded Accord.

Same for me. Haven't used my netbook in days.

Let 'em call it whatever they want. Most of them are absolutely green with envy anyway. The daily special for Windows sufferers has been frustration, served with a side of letdown, for quite a while now.

The iPad is a game-changer all the same, and will end up selling like crazy over the next year. Nothing will change that.

People are trying to install the iPad into their cars, not Winblows tablets. Apple gets all the glory, and with good reason.

It is an oversized iPod...it just has the ability to runa few additional apps b/c its oversized. Get over it man...all that said, I'll be getting one with the 3g version is available. If it was more than an oversized iPod you could access files, run multiple apps, print from it,etc without having to hack it or install a crappy 3rd party app.

You're thinking that the iPad and the iPod touches are the same - which is why you're saying these are analogies. Nope. The Corvette vs. Toyota Corolla is a perfect analogy.

Just because the parts/specs are similar except for size doesn't make it the same! Tell me that you get the same experience from these two women:

I'd say there's definite difference in User Experience.

You can print from it.

There something called "developers", and they'll take the iPad even beyond the items in your list, sans the "crappy 3rd party apps." We can do without those, thanks.

This is just the beginning.

LTD - I know you're an apple fan(atic) - but you should learn to relax a bit. The poster you reference has valid points and is not bashing the iPad - in fact he's buying one despite limitations. The same was true for me. To say/ignore limitations is what makes you appear (to me and I am sure others) over the top regarding loyalty and fanboism.

You can love the iPad AND speak of where it "fails" without hurting Steve's feelings I assure you.

ETA: By the way - the example above with the two women. Bad comparison as that's clearly a SOFTWARE comparison, not hardware...

it gets your blood boiling that windows users call your ipad a large ipod? Get a grip. People are murdered and crippled every day. What does that do to your blood? By the way, I'm an apple fanboy who has used the ipad and came to the conclusion that it's a large ipod touch. I guess it's not just windows users.

Same conclusion as well, until proven wrong. I walked into the apple store monday seeing if it was indeed worth a purchase, Just isn't at this time. All it is right right now is a big iPod Touch. Until some dramatically better apps that pull it away from this moniker come out that's all it ever will be. (Also a Mac user & not jealous of envy.)

Problem with window users calling the iPad a oversized iPod!
Personally, I think that it's great that they see it this way.

When they say something like this I agree ... and then say it does a whole lot more. Then I joke that it's an iPod touch on steroids.

Focus on the multi-touch interface. That's the key.

I am a Windows user, but I love the iPad, mine is on the way as we speak.

I have two custom build rigs, extremely fast, that are my main computers they run windows 7. But I also have a linux server, and a mac book pro, mac book and iMac.

So as you see I get the best of all worlds, and I enjoy the pros and cons of every platform.

I don't like it when mac users bash windows, it is an amazing operating system.
But I don't like it when Windows users bash apple's products just because they are jealous and can't afford them.

that pisses me off just as much as when: I was in the apple store yesterday and i was playing with an ipad (very fun), and these kids older than me or maybe not as smart as me (and im not very smart) walk in they pick up an ipad and go to play the madden game app. so they start playing and they go this thing sucks they were trying to play it on iphone screen size. so after a minute or 2 of them complaining and building up my rage i lean over and tap the X2 button at the bottom then they all go "OOOOOO". i thought to my self what a bunch of retards. for the record i heard like everyone in that store say this is just a big ipod GOSH DAMB IT!!!!!!!

Agree.

Computers and Operating Systems are like tools in a tool box. You pick the one that works the best for the task at hand.

Granted I am partial to the Mac OS, but I still use Windows on a daily basis and even DOS at times. On that note, I really like my MBP because I can run Windows XP via VMware Fusion. Very nice. :)

Bottom line, use what works best for the task at hand. :)
