Rethink it..
Thick, fat,
Heavy as hell,
Crappy screen probably,
Fingers always on the screen,
Not as smooth transitions,
iPad has a bigger screen,
I'll come with more as I think them up.
Why not use an laptop instead of this HP device? It has a windows OS which does the same as a laptop, defeats the point to have one. The iPad is just... different.

Please don't speak from ignorance (and by that I mean from a place of not knowing or bothering to check your information). Did you read the article. The slate is actually lighter than the iPad. Granted it's a little smaller. But it's lighter. So "heavier than hell"? Sounds like you just want to make assumptions.

Fingers always on the screen? As opposed to the iPad?

Not as smooth transitions? So you've used it? And is this really important?

I bought an iPad. I'm not bashing. But really - posts like yours just feed into the notion that those with Apple products can't possibly enjoy or be interested in something else. Or worse - that any "competition" that comes around has to be immediately dismissed or bashed.

I had a co-worker at work today that doesn't know much about the iPad nor does he know much about apple in general. To him, Mac Is "such a fad."

He went on for a good 15 min today about how the ipad is a total failure (iFail as he called it) because of the wifi connectivity issues some people have had. Due to this the whole product is a failure and will amount to nothing.

Thats when I told him I bought one. He told me to enjoy my big itouch while he is on his superior acer net book.

I have to say one thing I seem to have noticed since I bought my first Mac... A lot of apple users seem to be more open about windows (I'm guessing bc many have used it and its easily set up on a Mac) however so many windows users know little to nothing about a mac (much less ever used one) and they have that holier than thou attitude.

To conclude: Stop with the childish Apple Vs Microsoft war. Some people prefer cats, some prefer dogs. Some like the colour pink, others hate it. Some people use Windows, other people use OS X. It's life, it would be boring it we all liked and used the same things. There is no need to divide society up because of it, that's primitive.

Best post in this thread by far. Ah, well. People will always feel the need to feel superior over one another so I guess you might as well use company fanboyism/brand loyalty/arguing about PC manufacturers to do it.

*shrug*

You might want to try and elaborate on that part.

If it is what I think it is, you need to educate yourself better.

No he's right Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy and Gates bailed them out because he thought it wouldn't be healthy to have no competition. Which is true without competition the market stalemates.

Apple has gone a long way with that bailout but they are starting to make the same mistakes they made before by resting on their laurels with products that were innovative in the beginning but swiftly becoming outdated by competitiors. People start looking for other options because of the overly restrictive environment Apple provides its end users. For some they will never know the difference but for others they will never own an apple product because of it.

When I first bought my iphone I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and it was but slowly but surely the competition caught up and there are now better Android phones on the market so about 2 months ago I switched over to android and I can do way more than I ever could with my iphone.

Now I bought an ipad because once again there is nothing else like it and it is the greatest thing since sliced bread but slowly but surely i'm starting to realize how restrictive it is. Can't download or Upload files with Safari, can't view videos on the majority of my favorite websites because they use flash etc... Now if a device comes out that can do those things plus has an sd card slot usb etc... Apple will once again get left behind.

I really want the ipad to succeed because I really do like it but if Jobs continues to ride his high horse and not allow flash not allow any downloading or uploading from the device, not allow sd cards all in an attempt to keep the OS on lockdown well guess what's going to happen...

Apple has always had innovative products noone ever questions that but when other products come out that are just as innovative and can do even more than the Apple equivalent people start to migrate and before you know it Apple is right back at square one.

As a proud iPad owner I would say for now it is pretty much a big iPod Touch, however I think as time goes on that will change. It really depends on changes made in OS 4.0. It still drives me crazy that I can listen to Pandora on my Droid while doing other things, but I can't do that on my iPad. I bought it with the hope that those kinds of things will change when the new OS is released.

With that said I also think that the iPad has the chance to open up a new market sort of the way the Wii did. Many older people never considering buying a video game console until the Wii came out and changed the way people interact with it. My parents are older and they loved the iPad. My mom called it an iPod for older people. It is much easier to use because it is larger.

I like my device and for a very light laptop user like myself with an iMac at home it really can replace a laptop for most things. I did have an issue today when I was trying to pull up a site that I needed to use that is Java based, but maybe we will get more support in the future.

my mind literally shut down for a few seconds after reading that. I was unable to think of anything; I think my brain had a kernel panic and had to re-boot.

=)

I like popcorns! Don't panic!

Doesn't matter, I'd still rather Bill Gates take an interest in my opinions.

The problem is that Bill Gates would run your idea through his copy machine, pretend that you didn't say it, say your product is overpriced because you had to invest R&D into your product, and try to kill your business.

Before we go, it's not based on one event of where Microsoft invested in Apple, but rather of many events, dating back to just before Microsoft was formed as a business.

"Your $800 HP laptop is nothing but an oversized netbook."

Same diff. Don't let it bug you because they're not ONE OF US. It is quite a dumb argument considering all the above examples, especially "HDTV is just a bigger TV." Ask them why any of them have televisions bigger than 3 inches if extra screen size doesn't matter. As someone who likes the Kindle app on the iPhone, I can tell you that tripling the screen size WOULD BE A HUGE DEAL.

The difference is, hardware changes from netbook to laptop. Hardware hasn't changed much, if any, from iPod touch to iPad.

Also, an HDTV isn't just a bigger TV. Two different technologies involved. But, a 60" HDTV is, most of the time, just a bigger 40".

Hell yeah it is a bigger iPod touch...how can you friggen deny it? Sure, there will be iPad specific-apps, but it is using the same OS and basically has the same capabilities right now. The experience may be better, but it doesn't change what it IS.

I have an iPad and at first I thought the "oh it's just an oversized ipod touch" phrase was a bit ignorant.

But really for now that's what it is. The file storing / moving restrictions are kind of ... Restrictive.. esp when you want to try to use it for content creation. I also find the no multitask ability restrictive to creation to.

I say this though knowing that the iPad is perfectly capable of remedying those two major problems I have.. hopefully soon with this iphone os update :)

BTW they are even talking about sticking the same chip used in the iPad in the iphone and probably in the future ipad touch.. Apps will be different not because there is actually really any different functionality in the iPad.. it's just more real estate

If I sold you a Mac Mini with a 10 inch LCD
And then I sold you a Mac Mini with a 27 in LCD

Would you say.. OMG that's a new product
or would you say. Oh that's just a mac mini with a bigger screen.
