Promised but didn't make it into iOS 9

Only Weather App has improved it's performance. Rest of the places, it's same or slightly worse than iOS 8.

So yeah! Planned obsolescence continues.

5c does feel a little stuttery.

From here on, all future updates will be worthless. Maybe they would be only drastic updates where there is a change for the sake of change.

We are reaching a saturation point for software features.

Nah, it wouldn't have been worthless if they actually followed through with their promises of better performance and battery life instead of barely breaking even with iOS 8 at best. I find people defending their incompetence really disturbing.

I agree. I feel so let down by iOS 9. They made a huge hoo haa about it at WWDC. Promised huge performance and stability as well as better battery life. While I cannot comment on battery life just yet, judging by a lot of post, Apple has not lived up to the expectations set at WWDC. It's all just been one giant marketing ploy. Perhaps iOS 9 will be what was promised by 9.4.1, but by then iOS 10 will be around the corner.

It seems like either Apple simply cannot keep up, or simply don't care anymore since they making their gazillions anyway.

Personally I think Tim Cook should be fired, along with Jony Ive. I don't like what they have done to Apple.

Lol, if you believe they are the reason for increased profits, then that's your opinion.

My opinion is that Apples profits would have increased with or without them. People are not loyal to Tim Cook or Jony Ive. People are loyal to Apple.

As I said, this is my personal opinion and I don't really care if you agree with me or not.

I'm not here to debate this. I'm stating my opinion. Accept it and move on :)

Haven't they told that apps are only going to take up the required space just for the certain device we own? Because previously, when we downloaded an app, it included files for the resolutions of all iDevices... Well, I did a full restore and set up as new and didn't notice a difference in the size of apps I installed... It's exactly the same as before...

You never said iOS 9 was a worthless update because of poor performance. You just gave a blanket statement.

The only consolation prize is that Apple has not rendered last gen devices obsolete with visible slowness or stutter. It's just same as iOS 8. That is still an achievement for Apple given their history.

For me on my 5S, compared to iOS 8.1.4,

1. Weather App is smooth
2. Multitasking is smooth

So there is a little progress. You cannot deny that.

I have never defended Apple ever. Check my post history. I was one of the first few people who called out on Apple's bull$**t iOS 8.0 update.

Like every major iOS version, we have to really wait till point update eg. 9.1 for things to settle down. You are free to hold off from updating till you find it meets your standards of stability and smoothness. (Which will be never :(The hard truth)
 
I don't think OP's features were mentioned in the keynote.

Missing in GM:
1. News for UK (mentioned in keynote)
2. Nearby feature in Maps and Siri Suggestions (present in betas)
 
They always rush to complete the x.0 version and then focus on performance later. This is particularly true with iOS 4, 7, and 8, other versions were good enough at launch.

Why are they rushing to release the new iOS? They have had an entire year to work on it and ensure that it's perfect for launch.

It's called App Thinning and it has to be supported by app developers.

Planned obsolescence isn't the same thing as lack of improvement.

Apple is way too smart to intentionally cripple older devices- why would anyone keep buying Apple products if it came out that Apple intentionally mucks things up on older devices?

Well I'm at least partially wrong on that, I suppose- there are quite a few users on MacRumors that complain about every single thing Apple does and yet they keep buying new Apple products. So maybe you're on to something...

Anyways, back on topic- in most cases, iOS 9 performs exactly the same as 8 for me, with the exception of control center lag. Considering the performance regressions of 7 and 8, a lack of regression is a good sign, I suppose. But I'm a little concerned about battery life at this point. I'll give it a couple days before I make any serious judgment, though.

Because the iOS releases are tied to the yearly iPhone upgrade cycle and because there's no such thing as a perfect, bug-free iOS. I always recommend holding off to people who are wary of installing X.0 iOS releases. By waiting for the inevitable X.0.1, X.0.2, and subsequent updates, they get a less buggy (but still imperfect) iOS at the expense of waiting longer for new features.

Sorry but that's still not an excuse for why Apple releases a disastrous iOS to the public after having a year to do it. By all means, launch the new iOS with the new phones, but you've had a year to make iOS epic and yet they still fail.

Never said that they need to launch a perfect bug-free iOS. My point is that Apple has had an entire year to work on iOS 9 and they rushed to get things done for iPhone 6s. Why was it rushed if they had a year?

What baffles me is how they touted performance and smoothness because of Metal, yet iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 feels perfect on iOS 8.4.1… no slow-downs whatsoever (even the Apple Music lag seems to have gone away over time, or I don't notice it anymore… I dunno).

However, on iOS 9.0, it feels like it's gone backwards. Animations skip all over the place. Usually the first few frames are completely, so the animation starts somewhere in the middle.

I've heard that the lag smooths itself out after a while, but how come as soon as I install iOS 8.4.1, the lag is completely gone (even though it's indexing and copying my music at the same time)?
