Sorry but that's still not an excuse for why Apple releases a disastrous iOS to the public after having a year to do it. By all means, launch the new iOS with the new phones, but you've had a year to make iOS epic and yet they still fail.

Never said that they need to launch a perfect bug-free iOS. My point is that Apple has had an entire year to work on iOS 9 and they rushed to get things done for iPhone 6s. Why was it rushed if they had a year?

You could say the same for pretty much every yearly iOS and OS X release. The dot zero versions are always buggier and things tend to smooth out over time. Could Apple do better and release dot zero versions that are less buggy? Sure, but only they know how many additional resources that would take and how it would affect their revenue cycle and other considerations.

Personally, I haven't had major problems with any of them over the past few years - maybe my tolerance for imperfection is high, LOL. But, as I wrote, it's probably better for some people to wait. I haven't installed any version of 9.x yet, however, so I can't comment on whether it's as disastrous as you say.

I'm sorry, but what planet are you living on? "Disastrous"? As in the Titanic sinking? Come on; it may not go to the store and buy your milk for you, but it does generally what it was advertised to do. Up to now, the most you can say is that it was beta software not living up to your unrealistic expectations. And let's see how quickly you can revise millions of lines of code. I'm sure a whole year would be enough, right?

Keyboard trackpad was awesome until it was removed after beta 3
Yeah, that was unfortunate. I really like it on my iPad. The only thing I don't like is that you have to make an initial selection the old fashioned way and then complete it using the trackpad feature (unless I'm missing something)

It started at where ever the cursor was (at least on my 6+). I'm surprised they shipped without it. I really want it back.

Oh please, iOS 9 is not what Apple promised at WWDC. Yes it does what it's supposed to do, just like all iOS versions. But iOS 9 GM is crap. How could Apple even think of seeding this GM?

Oh please, that is a ridiculous statement, in fact, trolling, Apple is not a one man army. They have 100's if not 1000's of employees working for them going through code, writing code, testing and debugging.

There's still something to be said about unnecessary hyperbole.

What baffles me is how they touted performance and smoothness because of Metal, yet iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 feels perfect on iOS 8.4.1… no slow-downs whatsoever (even the Apple Music lag seems to have gone away over time, or I don't notice it anymore… I dunno).

However, on iOS 9.0, it feels like it's gone backwards. Animations skip all over the place. Usually the first few frames are completely, so the animation starts somewhere in the middle.

I've heard that the lag smooths itself out after a while, but how come as soon as I install iOS 8.4.1, the lag is completely gone (even though it's indexing and copying my music at the same time)?
My main issue with iOS 9. Really, I don't see many issues except for the following on my iPhone 6: folders occasionally lag to go in and/or out of, random frame skips when opening or closing apps, random frame drops anywhere in app switcher, 40-50 FPS control center. iPad mini 2: general sluggishness, everything that shows issues on my iPhone is 1000x worse on my iPad. Bad stutter all over, ESPECIALLY APP SWITCHER.

You can just tap once to select the word you're on, from there you can drag forward or backword for text selection. You can move the cursor only if you first start by sliding on the keyboard rather than tapping once beforehand.

I admit, the GM of iOS 9 is laggy, and personally am having more trouble than the previous build...but...has anyone done a fresh install by wiping their phone and installing it? I personally haven't but wonder if that would help. I know iOS 8.4 I had to reinstall via iTunes about every month or so due to a weird battery drain issue that wouldn't fail Apple diagnostics, but the restore always fixed it (just had to do it from iTunes, and then the restore worked perfect).

For those that complain about Apple has all those people and still releases code with bugs in it - I'd love to know if you've had experience programming systems. It is unfortunately the nature of the business that you can write what you think is perfect code and test all you can and real users will always find bugs - some are people use software not as planned, the mix of software and data on each of the millions of phones is different for all people, IOS may be fine but applications cause issues and not only with themselves, etc. If you haven't written real software then.....

I'm having trouble with iOS 9, but not bitching at all. I do have the GM and will say, again, it's buggier than Beta 5. With that said - I put a beta OS on my iPhone, and completely knew the risks. Do I get annoyed when it has an issue, lags, freezes, an app crashes? Of course...Do I blame Apple? No...not yet anyway. It will take a fresh install of the final product before i'll pass judgement on it.

It's in 9.1. Did they actually say that News was coming to the UK in 9.0, I didn't think they specified that....
they said it was coming to US, U.K. and Australia in the June keynote where they announced iOS 9 features, if that's what you're asking,. if you want to get into whether that necessarily meant 9.0 or 9.x I can't be bothered :)

FYI it's at 59 mins

So, not actually specifically 9.0, but you're gonna bitch about it anyway? Right, ok. Post like that are a waste of time.

The News app is not worth the wait anyway. If you’re interested in such an app, you will likely have something similar installed on your device already, like Flipboard, Feedly or even an RSS reader like Reeder. There are some excellent apps in the App Store. News offers nothing new, has a very limited offer of feeds so far with no ability to add feeds of your own and has a bit of an odd UI in my opinion.

Hey, no need to be nasty. Let me calmly list some points, please take them in good spirit and think about whether it's worth pursuing this.

1. Ultimately you're suggesting there is no acceptable answer in this thread because any features not currently present could come in a later version of iOS 9. I find that a pointless argument to get into. Ok, maybe if we want to be absolutely technically correct then this thread is more like 'Mentioned at the keynote, but not in 9.0, but hey it could come later! But in the meantime let's have an interesting discussion about some of those features!'

2. I think it's fair for most people to assume that, unless Apple explicitly specified, the features announced at/around the time of the keynote were intended to be launch features.

3. You suggested I'm bitching, but I really wasn't. My original post quite calmly listed a couple of features I noticed were missing in the GM. I'm not upset those features are missing. I don't think I'll use News that much. I just mentioned in, in accordance with what I thought OP was asking. I don't think it's some terrible failing of Apple to have delayed these features.

Not being nasty, if you take it that way, that's on you.

There have been numerous features demoed at WWDC over the years that come in a 0.X release, rather than an X.0 release and more of those have been in later release for other countries. This gives time for Devs to prepare for what's to come and be ready, and yes, to TALK about those features. Also, things always change between WWDC and the launch anyway, always have, always will.

The point is, it wasn't said it was coming when iOS 9 launched, so not technically wrong and technically is what matters.
