We should be able to know more in 2 weeks. Following iMac recent update history I would say yes (October 2014, October 2015). A small delay could be related to kabylake CPU.

I have been waiting for an issues free iMac for 3years. I hope they don't do anything stupid this year. I won't wait another year. After 9 years I am not happy with apple quality anymore. If they want to focus only on iOS and iPhone it is time to return to windows.
I still have a Windows machine and work with Microsoft servers on a daily basis, that being said there's simply no comparison to the Mac OS IMO, it's simple, robust and for the most part very clean and hassle free.

In fact, I was about to just go back to my Windows machine after the second MBP motherboard crash but Windows 10 keeps forcing updates and suddenly it won't boot up unless I unplug my USB peripherals anymore. The way they handle things is mind boggling sometimes. For personal use, I'll stick with Mac.

I know that windows has a lot of problems (my father has it) starting with his graphic inconsistency but I don't find working with ElCapitan as pleasant as it was with Snow Leopard. A lot of good things have been removed (old spaces with grid was fantastic, Aperture, old iPhoto, the colored icons on sidebar) and the losing interest from Apple to the computer section is not a good sign (where is the MacPro after 1018days?)

Got that right!!
cheapo.

If you're not willing to spend for the upgrades on these iMacs you've just wasted ALL of your money.

Try telling him that !!

The machine works fine for our purposes. He didn't waste all his money, just that the machine could be a bit faster with an internal SSD and be guaranteed to be future-proof for our purposes.

To confirm, is there definitely a newer model iMac being released soon?

Yup. To echo what others have stated, its highly probable that something new comes out in 2016. Whether it's as simple as new GPU options and better value on flash, etc., or a drastic overhaul, it would be wise to spend your current hard-earned money on a current machine once released, not a machine that is nearing a year in age (long time in "tech years", particularly given the price points for these things).

Appreciate the feedback but I don't I'm happy to go with the current model rather than hedging my bets on what may or may not be next years model. To me, this argument doesn't carry much weight after just one year, a few years maybe but I think Apple has people too conditioned to buy into their one-year upgrade cycle. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I expect a computer to be good for many years, even if something is about to come out that may be a fraction faster and better than last years model. Just my .02

No, you're missing the point of my post, he did.

Go buy a car with no engine and no interior. You walk onto the lot and it's just the metal frame and the guy sells it to you for full price.

By your logic, great buy!!

Your analogy doesn't make any sense. We bought a fully functional computer. This "car" has both an engine and an interior. I may not be built for racing, and the seats are not leather. Works fine for our uses. Fusion drives work really well as fast internal storage of small files, so there is that.

I recently bought a 27" iMac in July.
500G SSD & 4.0 GHz. Upgraded ram to 24G (non Apple).
Awesome machine.
For me, even a 3T fusion wasn't big enough. My other iMac, 2009 24", still runs fine. a bit of a slug comparatively speaking now.
From a longevity or future proof perspective, I'd recommend anything but the 1T fusion drive.

This wasn't even directed to OP

What are you talking about, friend?

This whole argument about how the 1TB fusion drive is not a good value is based on the OP who started the thread. And you don't think that it isn't somehow directed to the OP of the thread?
