I do see an option within pwnage tool to enable the baseband update; however, it's greyed out and I don't see a way to enable it. Anyone have an idea?

I think it's disabled for now as dev team does not know how to unlock the newer baseband.

Anyways, I'm on 3.1.2 jailbreak ultrasn0w unlock. everythings working perfectly except for carrier name but I prefer it like this as it's much neater. Just trying to enable battery% now..

I guess that makes sense. I wish I knew exactly what the new baseband does so I could decide if I want it. If I did want it, I guess I could just upgrade to the official 3.1.2 via iTunes and then use pwnage to jb; however, I'll probably just stick with the old baseband for now even though I don't currently have a use for it (I'm with AT&T). I understand that you can use your phone on T-Mobile if you're unlocked but is that it? Can you use the phone in Europe if you're unlocked? I know T-Mobile is the only other carrier that can be used in the US.

As far as battery %, you should be able to enable that within the settings on the phone itself - it's a stock feature that can be toggled on and off.

iPhone 3G(S)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw

does this mean i will have to set up my phone as a new iphone after i jb? will it erase all my apps etc or will i keep them?

Edit: NM, got the answer from iclarified

I can confirm that this has worked on my 3G, although no carrier name again.

I can also confirm that this has worked on a 3GS and another 3G that I have done.

I can also confirm that the following applications are working:

SBSettings
Netatalk
OpenSSH
Ultrasn0w - working on Vodafone UK
Winterboard

Also did the full update for Cydia with no problems.

No problems so far, except I lost my Netatalk SBSettings toggle, but I have that back now.

Just do a full backup before you begin the procedure then when you are prompted to set the phone up after installing the custom firmware select your backup.

I did and all is well

maybe a stupid question but, do i need to be online when i jb? i have the tools and the new firmware, i wanted to jb at home but don't have internet on my laptop, can i run pawnage tool without being online?

So I know I have to use this on my Mac. The issue I have is that my iPhone syncs with my Windows XP computer and all my settings, backups, etc on are that. Can I unlock this on my Mac then plug the iPhone in to my XP machine and restore the backup there? Thanks!

I'm on a jailbroken 3GS on ATT but am having a problem for the first time with a version of PwnageTool. I have both PwnageTool 3.1.4 and iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw inside the same folder, but PwnageTool just keeps searching and searching for it. I tried expert mode and the "Browse for IPSW" button comes up and turns blue when I hover over it, but nothing happens when I try to push it, and the progress indicator just keeps spinning.

Build the custom ipsw on your mac, then put the custom ispw on your pc and do the restore to the new custom ispw. Then update from backup once complete. Many restore as a new phone, but you can certainly restore from backup. I did that exact process today (MB Pro --> PC--> iPhone)

I'm currently following the Iclarified tutorial to jailbreak, I've created the custom ipsw and have got as far as PwnageTool asking me to "connect device to USB", which I do, but Pwnage won't recognize that my iphone is connected.

I keep disconnecting and reconnecting my phone and iTunes (v9.0.1) can find it but PwnageTool cannot.

Anyone else have this problem?

So does this tool actually unlock a 3.1 or 3.1.2 iPhone 3Gs that has never been JB or Unlocked!!

It seems to say that, but I would love to hear if anyone on the forum has done this and how simple it was.

Yes, the blog says that and yes it works.

The DevTeam does not put out tools that don't work as claimed.

That's why their stuff isn't rushed out and undergoes a hefty field test before they release it.

You don't need pwnage tool at that point - just itunes. If you're on a Mac, click Alt/Option+restore in iTunes and select the custom ipsw you created. If you're on Windows, it's Shift+restore.

Tried that, but a message pops up saying that the firmware is not compatible.

What model iPhone have you got and what is the name of the firmware you downloaded?

I have an Iphone 3G, currently on 3.0 jailbroken using Redsn0w. I downloaded: iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw using Pwnage Tool I created iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw which keeps failing when I try to select in itunes.

Should I be in 3.0.1 first?

That's the 3GS firmware - you have the wrong ipsw.
