Chill out. I'm sure my question will help a lot of people that read this thread. I didn't realize that the issues was fixed in .7, its been awhile since my last iPhone update.

can somebody jailbreak 3G's ipsw file and add Cydia and upload the whole thing somewhere? :D

Alright I'm having an issue here. I've downloaded the ipsw from apple for my 1g iPhone

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...090617.XsP76/iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

I've run it thru pwnage tool using simple settings.

Now I set the iPhone into restore mode (hold home, turn on, continue holding home till iTunes icon).

Open iTunes, plug in iPhone, hit option + restore, select custom firmware and done.

Except while restoring the custom firmware I get an 1604 error. Any ideas?

I got the same error. I'm going to rebuild the ipsw. First time I said "yes" when it asked if I had previously jailbroken my phone. I'm going to try the "no" option now.

SssSame thing happened here. Had to restore to stock 3.0 then put into DFU instead of restore mode.

JRML Can you give us a rundown of exactly what you did to resolve your error.

Heres what I just did. Restored to original firmware, as soon as it was back up and running, i turned it off, turned it on into DFU, tried to restore the pwnagetool ipsw. No go, still got the 1604.

Someone posted a link on the hackulous forums for MIPatch 3.0 I dont want to repost it here just in case but I am going to try it out in a bit and I'll let you guys know if its legit or not. By the way it is in the forum on hackulous apple news -> 3.0 Jailbreak Released on page 6. Good luck.

1st Gen iphone. Just update/jailbroke to 3.0 OS with the PwnageTool 3.0. All went well. All my cracked apps are gone, but that's ok. Just glad everything went smooth. Thank you Dev Team Group Peeps

Alright, I finally got it. Dunno what I was doing incorrectly, but its OK now. Thanks for the help guys.

The final method I used:
Restore to original 3.0
Used PwnageTool to create image in simple mode telling it I'd never unlocked before
Restored to Custom .ipsw
Werked

I originally created the custom ipsw and tried to restore using restore mode. Keep getting stuck in "preparing to restore iphone" and 1604 error. Then, restored to stock 3.0 and use pwnage tool to get into DFU mode. Closed pwnage tool, opened itunes, option+shift and selected custom ipsw. Let itunes do its thing and finished with unlocked and JB iphone 2G.

I made the same mistake, and the used the same fix. Phew.

Can someone explain briefly where you put the custom firmware file? How do you get itunes to use that file for the restore?

I had to do it three times... first time I ever had problem
I always just used option not option shift as that selected the original ipsw
But why it took 3 goes beets me but I a happy camper again

Youll need to put your phone into dfu mode (google it) then option click the restore button in iTunes and select your custom firmware.

Gotcha...was just confused on at what point to option-click. Got it now.

Seems to be doing it...we'll see.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So, I just read this.

"iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken."

I can't restore with the new version of itunes. Am I going to have to download and old version to jailbreak my phone?

You have to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

I'm curious, do I leave "update baseband" enabled? First time jailbreaking, so its a bit confusing

Im doing it in expert mode so I can keep the apple on startup
