Hopefully they'll be a jailbreak for the 3GS with 3.1. I'm really wanting to get one as the RAM on the 3G and JB don't get along to well. But was kinda wanting to hold off for a few more months as I don't want to sign another contract.

Well i'm JB on 3.1, but none of my cydia stuff was kept. I guess thats to be expected with doing a restore. Should have just built the ipsw and then did upgrade. Oh well.

people are saying that WB doesn't work though, so does that mean all from cydia except for themes (unless you SSH the files) will work? so like kirikea still works?

So I can create a custom 3.1 IPSW w/ PwnageTool and then Option+Click the "Update" button in iTunes and select the custom-made IPSW and it will keep all my settings/music/apps/etc. without needing to resync everything? EDIT: Even if I'm not currently JB'en, will this method work? I'd really like to avoid having to resync everything. I have previously JB'en before.

Never knew that.

You plug your phone in normal and let it create a backup. Then you will have to go into DFU mode and install the new firmware. Once the new (jailbroken) firmware is installed you can restore from the backup in iTunes.

I told it I didn't have a 3GS

Though it found the 1,2_3.1 file. so i guess its ok. But everything says 3GS and not 3G? I downloaded the official 3.1 Pwnage tool from TPB.

Yea, the 3G(S) name comes up a couple of times during the process. No big deal though.

It always writes over the JB files as well as everything else on the phone.

You never retain your Cydia stuff when updating.

As long as you never updated to Apple 3.1 IPSW as that locked your baseband.

The PT custom IPSW does not update the baseband.

However, I don't know if UltraSn0w works with 3.1 (even on old baseband ??)

The S is in the brackets, so it means for the 3G or the 3GS.

I have also just completed this. Working fine on 3.1

Baseband didn't upgrade and am running Ultrasn0w on Vodafone UK

Someone just asked, so Ultrasn0w works with 3.1 and the old baseband ??

ok cool, i didn't upgrade. I was holding strong for the new jailbreak. So now when i get home from work i will do this and tada! 3.1 with all my jailbreak goodness....except winterboard :'-(

I'm confused, can I jailbreak my iPhone 3g on windows at all?
