PayPal is not that bad. I have used it for years. I usually use it when completing eBay transactions. The only time I had a problem when was someone claimed there was an issue with an item. It usually resulted in a lack of communication. They filed a claim without even telling me. Other than that you are covered. Unless it's a hacked account.

The safest way would be for you to just mail them the phone regular mail and ask them to throw a check in the mail when they have a chance..... :(

Why are you discouraging him from selling it to me? I'm a legit buyer. In person is much riskier in terms of safety.

I did not know you were even involved. Just giving the seller good advice.

Just got off the phone with PayPal. They said that not only will you have the $ in your account immediately but that they offer both buyer AND seller protection. I will happily pay the 2.9% fee of $25. I will even send the $ before you ship so you can have it in hand. There really is almost zero risk here and it protects both of us. I'm being pretty reasonable and generous.

PayPal is there to make money. How can they guarantee protection for both. Someone will lose if something goes wrong. If the buyer claims the phone is broken, how does PayPal decide who will prevail?

If you want the phone badly and the seller does not want to use paypal for wherever reason. Wire transfer the money like he said. He did not just created an account he has been here a while and a very active user. Why are you forcing him to use paypal. He said he is not willing to, move on or do what he ask to transfer the money. He is not willing to to take the risk and get scam with paypal. You are not willing to wire transfer cause u are also scare to get scam. Let it go

Or just meet the seller in Person then If everything checks out go to a atm at your bank and get the cash for the phone done deal.

This. I prefer to sell in person and have done this for the past 10 years without any problems. I get the money instantly and the person gets their device instantly. If they won't meet at Starbucks then we don't have a deal. I sold my iPad Pro Sunday morning doing this but he brought the cash and was ready to buy.

Yeah that’s what I usually do to. But I usually insist on meeting them at an AT&T store so they can talk to the rep and make sure it’s not iCloud locked or anything like that. Just gives them more of a piece of mind.

I've sold a few things on here with PayPal its fine. Just make sure you follow the right steps. Only time I had an issue with PayPal is a buyer put in a claim and I didn't check the account for 10 days. They refunded him his money and I was out 550$. Even with tracking showing it was delivered to him. Just stay on top of things. As much as I hate PayPal I have to use to for a lot of things

All the shipper has to do is send a rock with a tracking number. Now it's your word against the shippers. I would never purchase an expensive item via pay pal.

Yup, I've seen this happen - of course there are bad people out there. That's exactly what PayPal's protections are in place to prevent/remedy. I buy and sell and ship items worth thousands of dollars. Always take video of yourself packing up and shipping an item, as well as opening a sealed box. PayPal is quick to deal with the scammers who send rocks or trash or whatever in place of the item that was described in the invoice. The buyer will always get refunded in cases like that.

As said before once the PayPal payment is sent it goes from his checking account to your checking account none of it is done on credit and cannot be disputed.

This is not true. You can use credit cards as forms of payment in PayPal transactions. It's not necessarily a bank transfer.

You can literally pull the money out of PayPal and put it into your own bank so even if you were worried about a reversal, that would not be possible if there was a zero balance. They cannot pull from your bank unless your PayPal account has money already in it anyway.

Also not really true. PayPal will usually hold the funds of a new seller for 14-21 days, so you can't pull it out of PayPal and transfer it to your bank until after the transaction has completed. They lift these restrictions once the seller has a certain number of succesful transactions under their belt. Also, if you do pull the money out, and your PayPal balance is zero but PayPal determines you need to refund the buyer, they can certainly pull the money out, or make your PayPal balance negative that amount, and lock your account until it's paid back.

I think what she is saying is they are available for sellers that have been selling through PayPal for a long time with no past complaints. But new sellers they hold the money 2-3 weeks. Atleast that’s what I think she is saying cause I saw the same thing through a search on google.

Exactly right. They can't tell you ahead of time whether or not you'll be one of the ones they hold funds for.

They only hold funds if it is a business, not peer to peer

Beware, paypal is known for ridiculously "protecting" the buyer at the expense of seller. If the buyer claims you "didn't" send the phone even if you did, the money sent will be taken from you.

You are the only person I've ever heard that from
