Every year I try to talk myself into going without a case.
Then I see how good that new iPhone looks and want to protect it.
I look at all of the colorful cases and think I could go wild.
Then I buy the most boring case….clear 😂
Haha. This! 👆
Thanks for the chuckle.

I’d gone sans case since that ‘07 launch day device (correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think there were cases for iPhones for an iteration or two). Starting with the X, which was so purdy, I’ve opted to go with some super thin cases from Totallee. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I feel they were at the forefront of the super thin case race. Regardless, for being such a thin case, I have been surprised at the protection they offer. I’ve seen prob 3 legit tumbles where corners smashed into pavement. I was shocked to see the cases did their part - sending the impact energy around the device, splitting the case, but the devices were unscathed. As a bonus, Totallee has some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. And yes, they also offer clear. 😉

Ignoring the obvious grammatical incorrectness... Finewoven, along with Wonderlust, continues the trend of Apple going for really uncomfortable name choices lately. Things are starting to get a little strange. A little cringe.

"More environmentally friendly" - maybe, provided it's 100% natural fibres? Plastic microfibres from artificial fabrics are a massive problem.

iPhone leather cases will turn 10 years old this year!

Time for Apple to change the material?

The Apple leather case doesn’t offer enough drop protection for me. I suspect that won’t change if they go to fake leather. I find Mous cases offer excellent drop protection and are still relatively thin

As to people complaining about the price… All cases are heavily marked up. Do you really think that tiny piece of leather costs more than a few dollars. OutterBox cases retail for like $70 but some stores pay half that.

If I was just going to buy a new phone every year I certainly would not bother with a case

I think I started using cases with the X (not Twitter, the iPhone).
Wasn’t the the first one with the glass back?
It looked truly shatterprone.

The myth that leather isn’t environmentally friendly is absurd. It lasts longer and takes less processing than a fabric any day of the week.

At any rate, Apple’s first leather cases were surprisingly durable lasting years still looking good. The one I bought for my iPhone 12 was awful and lasted a few months before ending up in the trash.
