It was stated earlier in the thread that the card is physically too long. :)

The quoted 13.5" from earlier in the thread was from the engineering sample. The actual length is just over 12" and should fit. I measured my Mac Pro and it should accommodate up to 12.5".

has anyone gotten this card to fit yet?
I only run windows on my Mac Pro andwondering if this thing will fit and work.

this card is perfect to connect my mac pro to samsung UE46B8000 i'm wonder if it fits ? for a perfect image :)

I bought a 5970 at the weekend and just had chance to install it in my early 2009 Mac Pro last night. Good news is that it fits perfectly. It's a bit snug as the end of the card is literally cheek to cheek with the fan assembly, but it fits no problem.

I also used a 6 pin to 8 pin PCIe converter cable. There aren't any additional power pins on the 8 pin PCIe cables, just another two ground pins.

It works well in Windows 7 x64, but OSX doesn't recognise it so I installed the nVidia GT120 for OSX.

Could you please elaborate on fan noise when the system is booted into OS X? I am on the fence pullig the trigger on a Radeon 5870 or 5970, but the vga fan revving up is my main concern.

The fan doesn't crank up at all while in OSX. I don't notice a difference between running the card in Windows and OSX, even when I didn't have the Windows drivers installed. On cards I've had in the past, fans would only turn down once the drivers were installed, but this card doesn't seem to need that to happen.

Also the nVidia and ATI cards seem to be living in harmony so far. It's easy to switch between them in Windows.

WOW, that's the second encouraging experience with 5800 series cards in a Mac Pro for gaming. Mine is a 2008 model, but it won't be a problem.

Do you have a 24" LED ACD? In other words, does the miniDP out work in Windows 7?

Could you possibly take a couple pics of your MP's internals with the card installed? Thanks!!

Now that we know that it fits, all we need is OSX drivers for the card and we're golden. :D Would be nice to see some pics of this beast card inside a Mac Pro!

pics, and lets pool our pro-resources here and get this thing os x bootable!:apple::apple::apple::apple:

I will pay for a flash personally :)

There is no point to get exited unless Apple supplies drivers. Only then will a flash or other adaptation make sense IMO. So we must patiently wait for the Gulftown Mac Pros and hope that Apple will continue the buy ATI policy they used with the last iMac.

I don't have the 24" LED display, however I've got a Dell 2408WFP with DisplayPort input and it works perfectly. I'm using the mini DP to DP converter that comes with the Sapphire 5970 along with a cheap DP cable and it works as well as the DVI input.

I believe there are issues with the 5870 not working with the 24" LED or 27" iMac, but apparently the 5970 works.

Sure, I'll take a couple tonight and post them on here. I was going to do it when I initially posted, but my camera battery ran out and couldn't find the charger at the time.

OK here we go, pics for your viewing pleasure!

Not sure why the images are different sizes, ImageShack messed up...

Jeez, you make me SO jealous!

I'm *really* hoping Apple offers a six-core MP w/ at least a 5870 for less than $3K here soon. If so, I'll be buying it as soon as I can!
