New 2010 Mac Pro

Seeing how there's talk of a new Mac Pro in Q1 of 2010( I suspect January, Apple will want to upgrade the Mac Pro ASAP considering the new imac whips its granny ass in benchmarks) I'm sure the graphics will get a nice jump in performance, at the least I suspect we will see a 5series radeon or gtx275 as a standard feature. Although because apple supposedly has short term exclusive use of the upcoming core i9"Gulftown" hex-core processor It wouldn't surprise me if they have a similar deal with Nvidia. Nvidia has unveiled its new advanced GPU computing solution aka "FERMI"(Makes me think of POO!) and has stressed that windows 7 and SNOWLEOPARD! Versions for graphic junkies are coming. So we might be seeing a i9, Fermi 300 Mac Pro coming around or after CES. I think it's safe to say that a MacPro like this would not only make happy campers out of us all but seriously strike a blow to the high end PC market.:apple:

As much as I'd like to see it, I serously doubt a GT300 card will be bto for the Mac Pro.
Rumor has that Fermi has been delayed until March. Maybe the new Mac Pro will come out in March but I still doubt it will have a GT300 card.
I think our only hope is EVGA.

Right now the early PR for Fermi states that the supported OS are Windows and Linux only. I hope Apple deal with this and ATI 5xxx series properly soon.

OMG! MAC PRO! RELEASED AUGUST 2010!! ATI 5870!! HOLY ****!! ... I LUV APPLE!!! (but i wish it was the 5970 :( )

Fuzzb,
Make a video of the 5970 on Mac Pro!! its would be AMAZING!!!! :D

It doesn't work in Mac Pros yet apart from in Windows. It does work on hackintoshes but then only one GPU of the 5970 works so it ends up basically being just a 5870 with slightly slower clocks in OSX. Still much better than anything else available though.

yeah, i know it works only in windows, but hopefully, i can get the drivers to work in mac :)

[ i have a 5970 in my early 2009 mac pro ], and i have been able to boot into mac and use it, but not any hard video things

Derp

I wish there was a way to run the 5870 in OS X :(

Easy - get away from using Apple's pricey, limited hardware and run OS X on PC hardware. All you need to have a really easy time of it is a mother board with an Intel chipset and a Mac-compatible CPU, e.g. the Core i-series. Then you can plug most any video card in that you like, and in the case of nvidia's offerings, the unified drivers make it all a dream to get running. No flashing..

Help!!!!!

I want this card in my 2008 Mac Pro to play Battlefield 3 in bootcamp. 2 things. 1, will it fit? 2, will it work?
Many thanks.

If you're talking about the 5870, yes, the Apple one works fine in the MacPro 3,1 (2008 model). Apple says no, I say yes, as I have one now running fine in my MacPro 3,1 under 10.6.8.

I'm actually referring to the 5970. I have now brought one and am now awaiting the delivery of the power cables before squeezing it into my Mac Pro.
Is there definitely no way what so ever to get this card to run OSX? Maybe flashing it? Has anyone had any experience with flashing this card?
Many thanks.
