Is there any sense to put radeon HD 5870 as a second video card to mac pro 2.8Ghz quad-core (HD 5770 already got) for better game experience?

you can install a new nvidia card into a macPro, without haxing, just the install of a kext, then boot. Try out a NVIDIA GTX580 in a macPro 3,1 or greater, with no flashing or odd tweaks. NVidia is actually doing some legwork to make for better native video card support, without needing apple to code the drivers(though openCL and some OpenGL stuff need a tweak to a plist here and there).

How is the noise from those cards? After installing the Kext are the fan noises as quite as the 5870 or 5770 that Apple currently offers.

The desire to inform is admirable but the facts are muddied up a touch. Hate to see FUD spread so here are some corrections.

1. If you are on 10.7.3 and then install the drivers Nvidia has for Quadro 4000 on their site, many Nvidia cards will work once machine reaches desktop. None of them will have boot screens.

2. Which Mac Pro you have has no importance to this...works the same on 1,1 as it does on 5,1. (I am referring to cards ability to self init, not it's speed)

3. There are EFI versions of GTX470 and GTX480 that work on 3,1 and later. These have boot screens and OS support back in 10.6.8.

4. The GTX5xx cards that now working 10.7.3 are 10-15% faster than the GTX4xx cards.

5. OpenCl does require a hack.

6. To get these cards to work at speed, you need to edit or remove AGPM kext. Applies to GTX4xx and GTX5xx in any Mac Pro 3,1 or later.
