Did you try booting with one of the two Kingston sets separately? It sounds like one of the four sticks may have a problem, and it's just a matter of trial and error to figure out which one it is.
Yes, I did try booting with one of the two sets separately, no issue.

Which of these do you recommend guys? I'm a bit lost and need to get sorted.

Kingston 8 GB 2133 MHz DDR3L CL11 1.35 V HyperX Impact SODIMM Memory Module - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00UVOVV12/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_FqZlwb3VFHPDD

HyperX Impact Black 16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3L CL11 SODIMM Laptop Memory Kit (2 x 8 GB) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VMCUBK4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_duZlwb6HWQ5EK

The confusing thing is they are both CL11, however the price for maxing out to 32GB is so close considering one is 1867mhz and the other 2133mhz?

I have 8GB stock in my new iMac, I'm happy to either go 32GB and just sell the 8GB or just grab 16GB for a total of 24GB. Budget is around £150 - £200. I just want whatever option to be good and to match.

Edit: I'm in the UK. Also feel free to direct me to something I've not seen yet. :)

If the price is close buy the Kingstone 2133 Mhz

Great stuff! Thanks for that. For reference if you want to check the memory stats you just need to click the Apple logo and hit About my Mac... Memory size, type and speed is listed there.

Reckon I'll grab that 32GB 2133mhz for £170 tonight then!

Got my new iMac today with the default 8GB CL13 memory.
Upgraded with Kingston HyperX Impact 16GB DDR3L kit (8+8) 1866MHz CL11 (HX318LS11IBK2/16).

The default Apple RAM + Kingston HyperX Impact 1866 Works perfectly at 1867MHz. No clocking down to 1600MHz.

thanks. I ended up ordering the 2133 Kingston Ram even though I probably won't notice the difference. It wasn't that much more expensive than the 1866 Ram so I went for it.

i just placed an order with PC Case Gear for Kingston HyperX Impact HX318LS11IBK2/16 (2x8GB) DDR3L SODIMM. I was going to get OWC RAM from Macfixit however it's too expensive (twice the price of the Kingston)! I plan to remove the current stock RAM from the iMac and just run with the 16gig for now. Is everyone finding the apple ram is installed in alternate slots, or consecutive ones?

well.. my RAM arrived this arvo and install all done (the ram was in alternate slots)....not sure whether i will bother selling the 2 x 4gig sticks..
Thanks for the posting ladies/chaps.

My Imac has now finally arrived and I will be going for the
Kingston HyperX Impact 16 GB (2x 8 GB) 2133 MHz DDR3L CL11 SODIMM 1.35 V
Will leave the apple stock RAM in.

Has anyone tried this over an extensive period, days/week?
Was there any issues with booting up?
Did he Apple + Kingston RAM work well together, without being clocking down to 1600mhz?

Thanks

For anyone that is seeing their memory speed drop to 1600 after mixing original and new memory, have you tried swapping the memory stick sequence? It appears that the memory bank sots maybe staggered.

So from top to bottom, it looks like
Bank 0, Dimm 0
Bank 1, Dimm 0
Bank 0, Dimm 1
Bank 1, Dimm 1

Depending on how the memory was installed at the factory, it could be mismatched in the same bank. I theorize that if the computer sees dimms of different size (4GB and 8GB) in the same bank, it could drop the speed down to 1600.

On the advice of many on this forum, I went for Kingston 2133 RAM. It doesn't appear on any of the compatibility charts but Kingston Tech were happy to confirm that it would work. They couldn't, or wouldn't, confirm the speed that I would get. According to my IMac it is seeing 2133 RAM and, touch wood, no issues so far.

If anyone would like to buy an original 8GB (2x4GB DIMM, late 2015) shoot me a PM. I upgraded and have the Apple Factory RM sitting on my desk.

I've read thru quite a few pages of this thread and it's still not quite clear. Is there a consensus of which RAM is the best option and if it's recommended to mix stock Apple RAM with third party RAM? Thanks.

This is what I bought from Amazon for $84.99 and one day delivery ... kept the original RAM and installed the Crucial RAM in the 2 opens slots. Works great, clocks at 1867.

Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1866 (PC3-14900) 204-Pin SODIMM Memory BLS2K8G3N18AES4 / BLS2C8G3N18AES4

Thanks. I'm trying to decide if I should add RAM to what's already there or just take the stock RAM out and upgrade to all 3rd party 16GB. Any thoughts on which is the better route?

What do you think would be the advantage of replacing the stock RAM with 3rd party?
Real life: you wouldn't notice any difference in speed and the combo works great ....
If you only need 16GB, you could just take the stock RAM out and use the 3rd party but why not keep it and have 24GB?

I tried using the stock 8GB for a while though and it wasn't enough

Thus, the consensus being that the crucial RAM appears to be one of the best solution. Unfortunately, it has been out of stock since time immemorial!

The Kingston HyperX is my second choice, and likely what I will go with, any follow-up with the kingston + stock?

The Crucial RAM is in stock on Amazon

If you have Prime you will get it Monday if you order it today

Thanks, according to the Crucial website: the RAM that is compatible is:
Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3L-1866 SODIMM Memory for Mac
http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/imac-(retina-5k,-27-inch,-late-2015)-imac17,1/CT7916286

The BLS2C8G3N18AES4 [16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-14900 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64] is stated as not being compatible with the IMAC 17,1, Late 2015 27". I can see on here and the amazon site, many have used with sucess use it with Imac.

I am going to order the kingston, can always order a further 16gb later on

are you using this with the stock RAM.

I'm still confused between these two:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Hy..._UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=0V3FWPHZMSR9NYSJ94C6

If the iMac isn't capable of running at 2133MHz, why is everybody going for it over the 1866? There is a price difference of £20 between the two, so why are we paying more? I don't get it :(

Please help!!

I am using the 2133 kit and I have no reason to believe that the speed isn't 2133. All manufacturers are promoting RAM that they have tested with the new IMac; clearly, Kingston hasn't tested their 2133 modules. I got my two 16GB kits from Amazon.de as the cost was about £18 less than that quoted on the UK site. Prices are volatile. I have seen the 2133 RAM slightly cheaper on Ebuyer.Com.

What is the best no frills RAM I can get for a 2011 27" iMac? I don't care about super fast, I just want solid RAM so my aging iMac can go for a little longer. I currently have 4GB and wanted to add two 4GB sticks for a total of 12GB. Do I need to get DDR3L or can I stick with DDR3?
