This is my second mini that does the same thing as well so I think it's a driver issue. I keep encouraging everyone to call apple support and start a ticket. Mini's are already one of the smallest market areas for Apple so we need to speak loudly about this issue if we want it solved quickly. I can guarantee if it was the iPad Mini doing this it would be fixed in a week with a minor update!

Same problems here. Base model with (self-)upgraded 16gb RAM and OWC DataDoubler 128gb SSD / stock 500 gb HDD. I have two identical monitors plugged in. One HDMI to HDMI. I get the black screen 1-2 times per day and have had snow twice in the last week. The other monitor -- minidisplayport to DVI adapter to DVI -- hasn't done it yet.
One other thing: when waking the Mini from sleep, sometimes both monitors wake and show the desktop, go back to no-input-blue, then come back to the desktop. Not really a problem but interesting.

Mines doing this over remote logmein sessions too. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a driver problem
I was going to order my Mac Mini next week,but if this problem is affecting all new Mini's perhaps I should wait till it's sorted out.
It would be good to hear from people who are not having this problem.
If it is a driver fault,surely all Mini's would be affected as they will all use the same driver?
Have Apple actually recognised it as a fault?

snow and black screen..
I had the snow filled monitor happen twice the other day... and today the monitor went black for a few seconds atleast once. I thought my monitor was going bad!
good to know it's my fully under warranty mac mini that's the problem.
I just bought the 2012 quad core i7 2.3ghz .. (mid base model).
FYI: I'm connected via a DVI to HDMI adapter.
I had the snow filled monitor happen twice the other day... and today the monitor went black for a few seconds atleast once. I thought my monitor was going bad!

I just bought the 2012 quad core i7 2.3ghz .. (mid base model).
FYI: I'm connected via a DVI to HDMI adapter.
I have the exact same problems with my new 2012 quad core i7 2.3ghz.
Using the hdmi port with the stock dvi adapter.... doesn't matter which monitor or resolution, the problem persists.
As far as I can see, it seems to be only the hdmi and not the thunderbolt port.
Resetting the nvram fixes it for a while but the blanking out / colored static returns.
I'm supposed to see a 'specialist' tomorrow evening at one of their retail outlets so they can test and document the problem.

Every so often I'll get a screen of snow. Like when an old TV is disconnected from cable. Happens for a couple seconds then goes away. Using an older Apple display (20" aluminum) with the HDMI to DVI converter included with the mini.
Called Apple support. They had me reset the PRAM and call back if I continue having the issue. Really hope it's a software update or firmware fix. Don't wanna have to pull this thing apart to remove my 2nd drive again and pull the RAM and exchange it.

Thunderbolt Displays
I have the same problem with my 2012 mac mini.
2.6 GHz, 16GB OWC Ram, Fusion Drive and 2 Thunderbolt display. No adapters involved.
Oddly enough, 1 display blacks out, and the other just has random artifacts and lines but never has blacked out. They are daisy chained together.
I did notice that the blackout happens when the processor is taxed more.

Still experiencing it after resetting the PRAM. Guess I call Apple again and let them know. At this point I don't want to just swap out my machine as it means a lot of work and seems to be a widespread issue.
How often are you getting it? I get it once a day, sometimes none at all (but it may happen when I'm not looking at it).

Maybe 1-3 times a day it seems. Just called Apple to have it documented. Seeing so many others on the Apple support forums with the same issue, I'm not going to bother bringing it in right now and will hope for a firmware update soon. Usually seems to happen a couple weeks after new hardware is released.
I'm going to give Apple Italia a call about this on Monday too. It's a minor inconvenience to me, but I want to have it on file with them.
I have not seen this problem on the 2010 Mac mini, nor the 2012 2.6Ghz/16gig/Fusion model. On both machines, I am using the supplied Apple HDMI-to-DVI adapter to a 23-inch Apple Cinema Display, and another Apple mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter to a Viewsonic display.
Exactly why I just called them back. They offered to have me bring it in and exchange it but with so many others having the problem, I don't see that solving it. Plus it'd mean I'd have to rip the thing apart again to remove the 2nd drive. Not something I want to do at this point. It doesn't really bother me right now.
.I'm experiencing intermittent blank screen flickering that worsens until a complete blackout with a late 2008 24" LED Cinema Display connected via mini displayport to a Thunderbolt input on a WD Velociraptor connected to my 2012 Mac mini 2.6 GHz i7 via Thunderbolt cable.
I'm not sure if this is EXACTLY the same issue, but seems close enough that I'd post and see if anyone has a recommendation. The issue seemed to have resolved itself during my first AppleCare call, but has now reappeared. I'll probably be calling a bit later; I just don't feel like shutting down and going through the diagnostic rigamarole right now.
AC may try to direct me to WD's tech support, but unplugging the MDP and plugging it back into the Velociraptor's Thunderbolt port seems to help, or at least reset the flickering cycle until the screen blacks out again.

I just set up my mini this morning and had the same problem. I purchased a new Thunderbolt display at the primary and put a Dell monitor using the HDMI->DVI adapter for the second display. A couple of times I've had the secondary monitor "turn off" or turn to snow.
When this happens to you, does it only happen to the secondary monitor or both?

I have had some random black screens which return to normal display almost immediately.
This morning I got the snow screen which wouldn't go away until I turned the monitor off and on.
Otherwise, it looks great!
It seems that something is causing a lapse in signal to the monitor.

no right now I am typing and the cursor is in the middle of the screen.
BTW what left corner do you mean the left corner of a touch pad?
If you don't like this or want to modify it, you can under Screen Saver in the system preferences.
Absolutely sure. Wasn't even touching the mouse.
Anyway, my left corner is set up for a different task.
There's a random problem going on.
