Samsung Note 8 and S8 don’t have a notch, so why did Apple? I think the notch was a bad mistake and it does take away from the screen size. Apple could have lengthen the size a tad bit to illiminate the problem. Perhaps Apple liked the new style to differentiate from the other manufactures
Those phone don’t have the Face ID and advanced camera in that notch.

I hate it. Not going to lie, it was the main reason I went for an 8 plus. At the time I didn't know about the OLED eye strain issue yet.

I am optimistic by the time I am ready to upgrade again 3 to 3.5 years from now Apple will have come up with a different design. If not, I can only hope others don't all copy Apple on this. I am sure some will. Just please, not all.

As stated, all Apple has to do is increase the size of a little bit and you’ll have a notch

I considered that but people would still whine about it just the same unless the additional height didn’t include visible screen real estate. So you would lose the edge to edge claim.

I like it to be honest. It looks an inky black paint stroke that the entire screen forms around. That may sound weird, but I really like the way full screen apps form around it.

Yeah, how dumb!o_O
Besides, if you watch a 16:9 movie in fullscreen, you lose a good chunk of the picture either way. But oddly, that's never a problem?

Precisely what I was going to say. People have no problem chopping off the top and bottom of the movie but the notch in unbearable? If you care about the movie, you shouldn't be zooming. If you're zooming, you shouldn't be complaining about loosing some of the picture. I have no sympathy for the "I don't mind missing the parts of the picture *I* eliminated, but I'm pissed about the parts *they* eliminated" crowd.

What's annoying is that the notch ONLY exists because the marketing department wanted a unique icon for iPhones.

The needed a little silhouette that Samsung or Google couldn't also use. They originally lucked out by having a round button whereas Android phones went for little bars. But now that everything is "full screen" to some extent, they needed something else. And so we get the notch. So that they can advertise the phone easier and create brand awareness around it.

That's it. That's the only reason.

And that's why we're bound to get a notch on the iPad eventually even though an iPad is well suited to having a small bezel across the top. But that won't matter, because that can't be made into a unique icon. So the notch will live on.

I know, I watched a movie yesterday that kept cutting out things I wanted to see, very frustrating and annoying. I don't care what people say, it doesn't fade away. People can lie to themselves all they want, I'm not buying it.
I agree. Been a month and I still didn’t get use to it. Minecraft store where you select maps, the right arrow to go to next map gets blocked by the notch. The text as well when scrolling. Meh.

It doesn’t bother me. Most of the time I don’t even notice it’s there. It doesn’t cut into or interfere with content. I don’t watch movies on my phones as they are too small. I watch YouTube videos and I have no issues cropping to fill the screen.

The notch almost seems like it actually is animated into my screen once I switch from my battery saving, notch hiding black background to an app with a non-black background.

I got used to it and still hate it.

Use this wallpaper! Tell the world you don't have an iPhone 7!

Embrace the Notch!

Well, get used to it then because I don't see it going away anytime soon. You could also buy an 8+ if you really hate it.

I’m fed up more with a jumbo phone more than I am the notch.

Not a deal breaker but is as irritating as a Crooked tooth on a beautiful face. A crooked tooth that could’ve been straightened.

Cool dude, the door's that way. You'll probably not like what they come out with next year too so may as well take the leap of faith to Android now.

The notch and the lack of TouchID are the sole reason why I chose to go with the iPhone 8 Plus and not the X.

For whatever reason nobody can justify why the notch is there (other than for people to know that you have the X) and I’m still having a hard time justifying why there was no TouchID.

I know people will say it’s the sensors and blah blah blah...then why does no other manufacturer have a notch?

If there was no notch and TouchID then I’d be sending this message from my iPhone X and not 8 Plus.

No other manufacturer has the same sensors as Apple.
