Over the course of time, other smart phone manufacturers will follow similarly to what Apple is likely doing. The technology under Face ID with all the sensors is incredible. I think too many are focused on the design of the Notch and they don't take in account that these tiny sensors project over 30,000 dots on your face to verify security using facial mapping, I find that fascinating.

I think too many are focused on the design of the Notch and they don't take in account that these tiny sensors project over 30,000 dots on your face to verify security using facial mapping, I find that fascinating.
That has nothing to do with it. Other manufacturers still have the same location for sensors up top. They just don't create a notch and instead just run a straight line across. The galaxys and notes come to mind. They are a gorgeous design. And still leave the top available for sensors including a retina scanner.
Apple could have very easily left it has a straight line across instead of the cutouts on either side. It would have looked better.
Agree with above. And that is the point, they could have done so, but they didn’t.
It's a compromise, but worth it to me. I like how the screen goes to all four corners and prefer it to a large bezel. Just happy that they have moved on from the iPhone 6-8 design. I don't even think about the notch. It is likely here to stay and they will keep adding more and more tech to that area.
i don't see it as a notch. for me it's extra ears that give me even more screen what would be wasted space otherwise

The notch is not ideal and very unapple like, aesthetics is what rose apple to its place in the world , ranking software right up there. Anyone who says it doesn’t bother them are gifted and or ignorant because it’s there! I think it’s a fail in terms of not just going right across the top with a solid bar for cameras and what not! The X is a pilot project to see how much Apple can and will get away with!

There are 7.6 billion people in the world, is it really so hard to believe that some of them will have different preferences and opinions than yours?
YES! of course! Branding is huge! An Iconic design backed with engineering and marketing only a few products can achieve that and are usually highly successful; Rolex, Porsche, Christian Louboutin shoes, iPod's, iPhone's... etc. Creating a product that can easily be identified without looking at a logo or name is pretty rare. Add that with a quality product you've got something millions of people want at a premium price

Of course not, Apple isn't perfect. It's a design choice that they made, some people like it and some don't. The woe is me attitude from butt hurt people on these forums is a joke. Apple is a business, they don't owe you anything. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other good options out there.
I love watching comparisons with other phones on youtube where they espouse the s8/note8/Google Pixel because it has no notch, yet there is a dirty black bar at the top they seem to be ignoring.
You can watch videos on the X with bars left and right if you want, Apple are not forcing you to have a bite taken out of your film.
I look at the X and welcome the two extra little bits of screen that show the time and battery. I love them.

i use my phone portrait most off the time so i do see it but not a dealbreaker imo...
video content viewers yes maybe, but most video is at 16:9 anyways according to youtube, very few are at 21:9 or 19:9 ratio due to losing real estate as a result.

because they need to find a reason to hate on apple... its apparently the "common thing"... bixby [S8 onwards] a non-reprogrammable button did not get so much flak in comparison to this so you know thats saying something ya ...

for me personally i only have one issue with the notch...
it doesn't allow to have battery percentage viewed! that still irks me to this day
I do agree about the branding though. like anything else we will all get use to it
i think animoji (as much of a novelty as it is) and a GOOD working Face ID (which no android phone has) makes it worth it
