Maybe they'll release a red MacBook too. I'm hoping the MacBook will come in a few different colors, so a red one could be possible. Eh? Pleeeeease?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

A Red iPod with part of the money going to charty, say an Shuffle or entry level Nano, with special engraving etc, would sell very well I think.

MacBook = so amazingly over-hyped on here no matter what Jobs reveals it will disappoint.

So completely true...just wait. The s**t will hit the fan when that thing actually does come out. It'll be a blood bath... :)

This all makes sense...

Opening of store......Macbook release imenient........Big day for Bono's Red Product.........Red ipod rumors
= Red ipod + Macbook
:D

it's going to be a red hot chili iPod :) and hopefully the MacBook will come out too. I'd like to see them available before high school kids graduate so that they can get them for college.

I hope its not a new iPod model, a red model would be a good step because there is not need for a a new iPod.... wait it out for a new good design

I don't pretend to speak to the veracity or plausibility of this rumor, but red seems like a departure from Apple's normally understated industrial design. Red, reduced to the wavelength level, is an agitation of the retina--whether that is pleasant or repulsive, it just seems so different from matte aluminum, neutral lucite or even pastels of the iPod minis.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like the neutral look--I think I would shudder if I saw an all-red notebook. Just my opinion.

That's exactly what I first thought when rumors started circling about a red ipod.

As for the MacBook, it seems that everytime an event or a date scheduled as a release date, something else is introduced right out of the blue. Using the rumor as a cover up for something else? Dont think so, everyone knows it's going to be introduced it is simply a matter of time. A red MacBook , just keep it at white and black;).

It's not that I'm against a RED iPod- the cause is certainly worthy enough. Too many people are dying of AIDS and not enough is being done- But is it for Apple to get involved with??

Millions are affected and die each year from cancer- where's their iPod?

And that you see is the problem.

The iPod is a music player. It plays music (and video in some cases). It shouldn't be playing politics.

Regardless of how worthy the cause it should be the National Governments who help fund these causes from their budgets or who legislate against the major pharmaceuticals who withold the drugs on basis of profitability.

Worldwide sales of prescription drugs today stand at $600 Billion.

The biggest selling prescription drug is Pfizer's Lipitor ( Treats high cholesterol) with annual sales of $12.9 Billion. The other 7 best selling drugs have sales in excess of $5 Billion each.

I live in a capitalist society and believe in free market forces but the amount charged for these drugs is obscene.

We all pay dearly for the pharmaceutical companies greed.

Even good intentions are commodified these days.

I think having an identity is essentially a soporific. Everyone's branded, and even if you seek an "alternative" identity, it'll just be sold back to you at a markup.

And when people's identities get wrapped up in thinking they're actually doing something to help people because they've bought the "right" iPod ...

God. I need (or am) my own island.

Most people pay for their own greed - if you look at your top selling drugs how many are for self inflicted illnesses that could have been avoided with lifestyle changes earlier on. Statin drugs, blood pressure drugs and those for type 2 diabetes - people need these because they've been greedy (and they're unfortunate enough to have bad genes). The difference between HIV and other diseases that do so much damage in the third world is that it is a worldwide problem and as such has attracted the research budget of the drug companies.

I don't disagree that the drug companies should do more but if you want them to start behaving like charities maybe we should all start being completely selfless as well - let's face it, no one here really NEEDS a macbook or a new iPod, why don't we just send the money abroad. If apple do decide to release a new iPod to help raise money for charity and it achieves that then why not. It's not like GAP and american express are not for profit organisations either.

I really don't think the red iPod is going to be for AIDS. It's going to be a red hot chili peppers iPod, Apple has confirmed that they are making a special edition chili peppers iPod. So I don't think that all this talk about the political implications of a red iPod has any real bearing on what's actually happening.

Both iPod+MacBook=$avings

This just came to me, based on a cool mockup of the new MB and iPod on some website covering all these rumors: the new MB and iPod will be sold AS A PACKAGE (optionally, anyway). Buy either separately for full price, or get them together for, say, $50 off the combined price. This would be a pretty appealing package for, say, college kids/grads, because if they're in the market for a MacBook they might decide "hey, I need a new MacBook but that new iPod is so cool I'll probably get one eventually anyway... oh wait, I can save some cash on the boxed set?! Score!" You know what, I'm a 40-something dad and I might go for that myself (OK, probably not).

Really goes with the 'digital hub' concept nicely, and explains why Apple seems so intent on releasing them together. It's the entry-level 'iLifestyle box.'

(N.B. I did NOT hear this from a friend/uncle/lover who's the mgr/owner/stockroom boy of an Apple store. I just think it makes good marketing sense.)

:)

A red notebook would look ugly, unless the tones are muted. I can't imagine how bad a red MacBook would look.
