Sure there is DRM, but damn it, Mac gamers have waited for this day for a long, long time! NOW is the time to show them that it was worth their energy to make this happen, open your wallets and buy as many Mac games via Steam as possible. If we don't, and the developers, after all this, still give up on Mac games, it will be our loss and the end of Mac gaming forever.

Well, if you were using Steam on Windows you were all ready dealing with onerous DRM...might as well use it on your Mac if it's that or don't play. ;)

Sorry, that was what I was trying to say. I don't mind the DRM, but some people do. But even with the DRM it is better to have the new influx of Mac games then have no DRM and no new games. Right? MOST of the DRM on Valve games is verifying via network that you're authorized to play them, not much else (some other companies have a lot more strict DRM). I don't mind the way Valve does it, it seems to be some of the most benign DRM to me, and have never had a problem with it.

I'm totally excited, can't wait. And that is what I was trying to say, I was prepared to rebuy Orange Box and a few other Valve games. But now that cash is going to be freed up to buying a bunch of other games that have Mac ports. I plan on spending what I can to help support this move, it is what Mac Gamers have wanted, now we need to put up!

Well they can't really let you resell digital content, how would that even work.

In all honesty, if you don't buy the first few months something is released, their prices just make it so you don't need to resell it. After a month or two prices drop quickly down to $19.99... after a year they are typically down to $9.99. Sure some games you may want at $49.99 but if you just keep yourself busy playing games for 6 to 12 months; those games are far and few between.... at least that's how I operate. :D

That works fine in some ways (buying games for $2-$5 is awesome!), but for online games you would most probably want to buy closer to launch, unless it's a really popular game like Counter Strike or Battlefield, then it doesn't matter much.

I really wouldn't use onerous. All you do is log in and you can play your games, no install limits, no download limits. If there's no internet connection then you can play in offline mode.

Bottom line will be good performance. If the Mac games perform well, it will be a huge success regardless of the o... (I resisted) DRM. ;)

i wonder if its just gonna be the valve games at first or all of the steam library.

Getting the total war series would be great. That is if my laptop can run them well.

It would be almost impossible for all of the Steam games to run on a Mac, unless Valve had something like Crossover built in, but we don't want that. Hopefully a lot of developers decide to port their games, Dice is considering Bad Company 2.

I wouldn't mind that for the older and lesser demanding games. I've got a bucket load of them kind of games (old id games, new indie stuff) that run on pretty much anything. Emulating them wouldn't be such a bad thing.

According to news sites, they just ported the Source engine over, which would mean that games that used the game-engine would be easily ported over to Mac.

And good games, and games that get good sales will probably be ported in an unanimous decision in the developer/publisher company.

But, IMHO, the best part about this is the Steam cloud system and the ability to play the same game without buying it twice on both Mac and PC. Working on Mac, can game too. Free-roaming on PC, won't be a problem.

Chatting with the other Steam people is just a minor thing compared to this. :D
