Hey all. I have a strange bug that I have not seen anyone talk about. 2-3x a day, Safari automatically adds the myAT&T bookmark to my bookmark list. It’s added to the bottom of the list and it cannot be moved, but it can be deleted. I will delete it and then shortly after it will return.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t plan on restoring my phone until I get the 12 Pro, but this started with 14.0 and has continued on 14.0.1.

I have noticed this on my 11 pro max as well, my carrier is Telus and I get 2 bookmarks added from them every now and then. I find that if Safari opens from mail or another app, that's when the bookmarks appear. If I open Safari first just to do whatever then they don't get added. It is an odd thing for sure.

Thanks for the reply! Glad I’m not alone. I’m going to try to pay more attention on when it appears.

Same exact problem here.

Same here with 14.1.
My hope is setting up my iPhone 12 as new will fix this.

I think it’s an iCloud bug so probably not.

I agree. It sounds more like an iCloud bug. When deleting the bookmark the change is not being pushed up to iCloud, so it just downloads it again.

I had something similar happening years ago. I fixed it by logging out of iCloud on all my other devices and then made the changes I wanted. Waited a bit and then logged back into everything.

If that doesn’t work then one of Sheep Systems bookmark products might, but they’re not free.

If it was an iCloud issue, why am I not seeing the bookmark on macOS or my iPad? It’s only my iPhone and it’s only the default myAT&T bookmark. If anything, it seems to be a carrier related issue.

Perhaps because it's a bug, and your other devices know not to download it because they realise it's been deleted but your phone doesn't.

It might be carrier related, but I have seen the stuck bookmark thing before. Do you remember ever bookmarking the page? My advice on a fix is at least worth a try. Or log out of iCloud just on your phone, and then hopefully it will download the correct set of bookmarks when you log back in.

I have seen this as well with my Swedish carrier Telia. The bookmark for that carrier’s website appear on the top level of Safari’s bookmarks, after I have deleted it.

No, I have never bookmarked it before. It’s the default AT&T bookmark that comes with the phone out of the box. Making me think it’s tied to the carrier profile or SIM. And from what I’ve seen, it’s only carrier bookmarks that are returning.

It can’t be carrier related. We are all on different carriers. I’m on EE in the U.K.

See quoted post below. It appears to be at least somewhat related to the carrier. I think it’s tied to the profile or SIM card.

Hmm maybe there is some truth in the fact it is carrier related. My bookmark is for EE.co.uk which is my carrier.

I’ve also noticed that if you edit bookmarks you can’t order this one.

Found some old posts about similar happenings. Somebody mentions looking for a profile, perhaps investigate that. The thing is, it doesn’t appear to be a universal problem so perhaps a bug.

What’s odd is I’ve managed to delete it and it’s stayed deleted for 6-7 months. Now it’s back and after deletion it keeps re-appearing after a few days.

Yep. I always delete it the day I get my new iPhone (its always there stock). This time it just won't leave!

Same thing here - AT&T customer, iPhones Xs with up-to-date iOS. Seems to come back every 3 or 4 days lately. Must be a carrier push.

After setting up my 12 Pro as new, I'm still having the bookmark return, but at a reduced rate. Instead of 3-4 times a day, its been once at day.

I started having this problem directly correlating to my upgrade to iOS 14. I opened a support ticket with Apple but they were not helpful. Ultimately they told me to contact my carrier. I explained that I don't see how this could be a carrier issue given that the bookmark is "special" and is apparently created with a special API (you can't move the bookmark, and you can't edit it).

But that's where they left it.

A few things I tried, none worked:

Uninstalled all apps for AT&T
Disabled iCloud bookmark syncing

No luck, it still comes back within 12 to 48 hours every time I delete it.

I've had the exact same issue when I had my service on AT&T. That bookmark kept reappearing after less than 24 hours every time I deleted it. Switched to Simple Mobile (T-Mobile) two months ago and haven't seen it reappear since.

I have no idea what's going on, what they're doing, and how they're doing it. But it's definitely AT&T doing it somehow.
