It's possible that EE UK is doing to same thing. Every time I travel abroad and pop in my o2 SIM card an o2 bookmark suddenly pops up. Only after I leave Europe and swap SIM cards again am I able to delete that bookmark for good. That is until I come back next time and pop in that SIM card again.

This has been going on for years now.

And even though my iPad, iPhone and Mac bookmarks sync the rogue bookmark only appears on the phone and not the others or iCloud.

Have been using 14.2 for most of today, and just now, the returning carrier bookmarks are back.

I have noticed sam behavior for years. Two bigger carriers in my country (Croatia) does this and one smaller one does not. It usually reappears after some bigger change: new sim card, sign in/out iCloud, iOS update etc.

It appeared two night ago again after I turned off Safari iCloud sync and then turned it back on because I had issues with slow Safari tab sync after updating to MacOS 10.15.7.

Do anyone who have this issue have physical SIM card? Does this issue appears in eSIM as well?

I think that SIM is very small computer that have way more power than it should. eSIM should be much better in that regard, safer and more private but im not sure. It is just my hypothesis for now.

I am only using an eSIM and I have this problem on AT&T. The problem persisted even after I upgraded my XR to a 12 and transferred my eSIM from the XR to the 12 two days ago. This also started when i upgraded to iOS 14. My wife is also on AT&T but she doesn’t have this issue, she does however use a regular SIM, and it’s a pretty old SIM, like from the iPhone 6 days.

It is March 2021 and I still keep deleting the “AT&T My Account” bookmark 5-6 times a week.

Does anyone know how to permanently fix this? It is beyond annoying.

It annoyed me so much that I switched my carrier. Little bit cheaper and same coverage and no bookmark.

Maybe GDPR might help to, not sure. If you are in California i heard they something similar.

If you haven’t sign any contract then just change carrier. That is only solution I know.

I'm honestly shocked this is still on going. You'd think after 7 months and several updates it would have been resolved.

From what I understand it is not a bug. It is something possible because of SIM card. So if carrier is a scum they will try to push their crap in any way they can.

But it didn’t start until iOS 14. So, do carriers just have this ability now?

It did for me, it was happening for years but it was rare for a bookmark to appear. I deleted a bookmark and it appeared half of even year later or even longer. I also found some forums with people complaining about this before iOS 14, i think from UK and France if I remember correctly.

Dunno why it become more frequent with iOS 14.

Same. Been happening for years for me too on and off.

Thats really interesting. Previously, it would only appear when I got a new phone and once I deleted it, it would stay deleted until I got a new phone. With iOS 14, it started happening with the first beta and has continued since. I originally thought it was an issue with my iPhone 11 Pro and SIM card but when it continued with my iPhone 12 and new SIM, I knew something was up. I appreciate the information from you both.

Has anyone figured out how to permanently stop the bookmark from coming back?

I am now deleting the AT&T bookmark on a daily basis. Why is it only a few people complaining about this?

My guess is people don't bother deleting it, so I don't realize it comes back. I would have zero issues with it being permanent if I could move it. I keep my bookmarks in alphabetical order, so always being at the bottom drives me insane.

In Setting > Cellular > Carrier Services I see a link that matches the reappearing Safari link (in my case “TELUS Web”). This is likely related.

I confirm that was in my case too. Reappearing bookmark was same as a link in Carrier services.

I have fixed my problem by switching a carrier.

I’ve been having this problem for a while now. I was having a Metro by T-Mobile bookmark, then switched to Verizon. Now I get a My Verizon bookmark. Switching carriers didn’t resolve it for me.

Yeah, it's a bug in iOS. Whether the carriers are accidentally or intentionally adding the link is irrelevant because the operating system should not permit it.
