Think ahead and be aware of your finances. Don't be prisoners of the moment. Those bills after awhile will start to pile up.

What is sad is a better one will come along and be cheaper. I get it that it's a special 10th anniversary iPhone. Alot of us just refer to it as The X. Sounds cooler to say. Doesn't mean that every anniversary iPhone will be amazing. It's like sports. We don't know if the next game we will watch will be the best ever.

The iPhone in 2018-2020 could all be amazing and surprise us with even more features. I realized picking between tick or tock models is a waste of time. They all improve every year. Since when has it gone backwards? What matters is if those improvements are worth it. To some, not really.

We don't know the future. The iPhone in 2019 could be downright amazing too and with features that might unexpectedly surprise us. The next iPhone doesn't have to be an anniversary model to be the greatest...

Depends on your situation.

I love my iPhone x

You nailed the OP comment very well :)

Yeah those who are foaming at the mouth right now about how great the X is and how Apple is the most brilliant smart phone maker ever designed are the same people who will be throwing the X under the bus in about 9 months when the XI is announced.

It would be hilarious if Apple brought back Touch ID... under the screen or whatever. Those who said "Touch ID is dead, yada yada yada" will quickly change their tune to "having 2 biometic authentications is a brilliant move by Apple!"

 LOL

Why do they need to justify their purchase? They may have just bought it because they felt like it.

Yup. Coming from a 5s. Bought an X because I wanted it and I could. Love it. Don’t need to justify how I spend my money to anyone, especially not on MR. Okay, maybe to my accountant and CRA. Also don’t care what phones others buy or feel they need to justify it. My husband has both a 5c and 5s and is debating between an 8+ and X. Our marriage will continue happily whichever one he chooses.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

tap the screen then drag your finger up (from the middle of the screen.. not the bottom).

yeah?

Thats not true. Im an X owner and Ive always thought touchID and faceID could be used together as two factor auth.

It is hardly groundbreaking that tech will be different in 9 months. Is anyone these days really naive to planned obsolescence? And? I have an X and still fondly remember my 3GS and 4...yes compared to TODAY they are far behind but at the time and while I used them they were wonderful. I can “foam at mouth” at my X and still enjoy it when newer tech comes out. I will likely have the X for three years, and when I upgrade be appreciative for how much use I got out of it and go on to also thoroughly enjoy the next new thing.

You have 14 days. Give it a few more. FaceID should improve with some time, both for you and the phone. You have had the phone for about 24 hours, and have two major complaints, that while valid, may disappear after a couple days of use.

As for TouchID coming back, that ship has sailed. I think FaceID is the system going forward, and in my experience so far is superior in that I don't even know I am doing it.

If that ship has sailed, they wouldn’t have included it in the iPhone 8.

LMAO! You know it man!

After spending $950 on the 8 Plus I'm gonna come out of the closet and say the real reason I passed on the X didn't have anything to do with it having features I didn't care about (Face ID, animojis, OLED) while sharing features I already have on the 8 Plus (A11 Bionic, 3GB Ram, 256GB storage)...

The REAL reason is because I could take that $200 I saved and apply it towards putting gas in my clunker!

These gas guzzling V8s are expensive to feed ya know! Sheesh!

And I don’t think your alone. There is no way I would have ever bought the 8 or 8 plus I just couldn’t knowing the X was out. And if the X wasn’t out I would have went with the Note 8. I just could not do that design again.

But when I look at someone like my mom who has the IPhone 6 and I’ve tried to get her to upgrade last year and she was like, “Hell No”. Not because she can’t afford it, she owns her own house and has money in savings and retirement and an almost 800 credit score. She simply doesn’t like having bills over her head. When she heard the X was $1000 you could imagine what she said. Lol. For some people the price point is a deal breaker, period point blank. I hope I get to that point at some time. Lol. But right now I’m still in the got to have it phase. Lol.

Why is it so Important for many people here, to announce that they are returning an item and why? Is the OP and others like him seeking permission or approval? You don't need our permission nor our approval. Really narcissistic.
It’s the same reason why people feel the need to announce that their device is perfect and amazing; seeking validation from others. I personally enjoy reading their reasons but won’t make my decisions based off them.

I'd agree... but I can't deny that reading this thread and many others with the "reasons I am returning the X" that just so happen to match the reasons I bought the 8 Plus instead of the X...

.... well... it makes me feel even better about my purchase decision. :)

With everything in life, this design and phone will become old. It is currently new and fresh, but for people shooting down older models are so laughable. EVERY single phone was praised at one point as all new one will too. It is funny how human nature works!

Nope, just hoping Apple read these forums and address these concerns on the next model.
are you selectively reading posts?
both of your points are addressable on the X.

you want cooler display tone? turn off true tone:
Settings-> Display & Brightness -> True Tone

you want to see notifications when your face is out of range of the cameras?
tap the phone to wake it then slide your finger up (not from the bottom)

------
idk.. return the phone if you want.. i don't care.
it's just that the reasons you're giving in the top post aren't accurate.

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

Well next time do the actual thinking before spending the money.

Good to know I'm not missing out on much then... because I can use the 8 Plus one handed.

There IS a market for plus sized phones!
Not saying you can’t use the plus with one hand. But you can’t grip and use it. Even in your pictures it’s the same thing. You let it float in your hand, a mere bump from someone passing by and you’re picking up your phone from the ground hoping to not see a crack.

whats great about the OP's post is that he/she is posting with the actual X in hand and has tried it. The thoughts he typed about (screen size coming from a Plus) ran through my head as well. Thanks for posting.
