Wow, thanks for the prompt response. Could we tempt fate with a november or december indication?

Considering the bad luck earlier on I don't want to say anything :) But I hope to have very good news for all you patient Rome fans quite soon.

If anyone has a PPC machine would like to help please send me a PM as we would like to recruit a few PPC users to help with the final stages of the PPC version.

Great Game

- Rome: Total War is a great game. I've played it under Boot Camp and it's incredibly enjoyable with both strategic and tactical elements.

- Forget the PPC version, just get the Intel version out.

- To new players: when you're in battle mode, resist the temptation to pause the battle and micro-manage. You'll have a much better experience if you play real time and learn to have a simple battle plan and follow through with it.

- I'm planning on buying it again for the Mac, just to avoid rebooting.

- There are a ton of mods out for RTW, after you've played a few base campaigns you can look into them. But the base game is so big you may not want to (you can play for months as the Julii, then the Brutii and Scipii, then move to factions with wildly different fighting styles (Scythians, Egyptians). Then play Barbarian Invasion. Just playing the last two sentences will take about a year of your life.

- If this really non Ciderized, then I'm very happy.

I will have a stab at answering your questions below.

- Forget the PPC version, just get the Intel version out.

Rome is one of the last games that will be able to run on PPC as games get more complex and so does the OS, PPC Machines will get left behind. As such we want to make this a universal game as PPC owners have not had a new game in a while and with 10.6 being Intel only Rome might be the last.

True you can take ages if you try to do everything that way.

Thanks :) It should be worth it.

Yes it is huge, although we will not be (just like the PC) officially supporting mods we have given a few of the popular ones a test from time to time during development and they appear to work well. As an extra the Mac version will let you play with any of the playable factions from the start if you wish, the PC version you had to complete one play through of the game as Julii first.

If you see a Feral logo on a Mac game it means a native port. We do not use Cider and have no current plans to use it in any of our ports.

I know it might be hard to believe what with all the delays but it will be out and available to buy this year. I don't want to tempt fate with any dates but once we have a date that is 100% I will let you all know and link you to the news.

I too am seriously considering buying the pc version of this game as I've been waiting for what feels like ages to play it. Had an Amazon order placed but the date kept getting pushed back.

Some news on a release date or a demo release would be awesome.

Yes, pre-orders from the Feral store usually get the quickest delivery times as pre-orders get shipped out once the sample units have been verified. If you ordered the game from our website you will have it before Christmas.

Demos come at the same time or after release, the demo is just as complex as the full game so the demo is not ready till the game is ready and right now getting the game done is goal number one.

That statement just clinched it for me. I will be pre-ordering when i get home today.

I know how you feel, but after waiting this long I'm sure I can wait a few weeks more. Feral are aiming for a pre-Xmas release... hopefully they mean this Xmas. ;)

I really hope this game comes out before Christmas break otherwise I won't have much to do besides work.

While I'm sure Feral can't officially comment on mods, but I really hope Roma Surrectum will work with the Mac version. I've been reading previews of Roma Surrectum II and it looks like the people developing the mod aren't so much making a mod, but a sequel. The world map will be bigger, hundreds of new units and the battle maps look at least 10 times better than the originals.

I wonder if there's any truth in the release date listed by Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rome-Total-War-Gold-Mac/dp/B001U89RCI

Which is... in 2 days!
No news on the Feral website though.

(Note: Amazon US had previously listed an August date).

I certainly hope so! - that date coupled with feral interactive's assurance of a pre-xmas release (on this forum post) sold it for me! pre ordered the other week. though i'm not holding my breath after seeing how often this title has been pushed back...

Essentially it looks like the PC Rome mods are going to work with Mac Rome, but it'll require a small amount of configuration by the user. We'll post a 'how to' guide once the game's released. As you guessed though, any modding attempts are 'at the user's own peril', so we can't offer support! :)

As for dates, we'll let you guys know when we have a confirmed release date. Won't be long now.

- Ian :)

Looks like the amazon date was unfounded as it has now been changed to 13th december .... god im dying to get back into this game . please hurry feral!

Amazon release dates

Okay.

Amazon (US) claims to be releasing RTW Aug. 30th...today. And Amazon (UK) has already changed to Dec. 13th.... Is someone at Ferel giving them this dates or are they just tossing up random ones to keep stringing us along?

We haven't announced a release date yet. As soon as we do, I'll let you guys know. :)

Ahh

So Amazon seems to not have a clue then.

I just booked my train tickets home for Xmas. It is a 14 hour journey and it would be awesome to be able to play RTW the whole way. hint hint.

So just to make sure I'm reading this right because I just joined
this website that Rome Total War will be coming out in 1 to 2 weeks?:D

its just over three weeks till the deadline for your PROMISED release time.... surely you would want to give out a release date well in advance? .... or at least an estimate. i dont care if you miss your estimate by a few days or a week etc. i just want to know how long into December i will have to wait.

thanks feral

Been looking...

I have been looking into this game and at first I didn't think it would be my cup of tea but now I think I want it. It is fairly old (PC) but at £20 it's a steal.

I've just bought 2 Feral games in the past 2 weeks so I may have 3 if this comes out soon.

Feral do great ports so if it doesn't come out in December I am willing to wait!
