LG has teased what appears to be a new round version of their G Watch, apparently to be unveiled at IFA.

I have to admit, if the real thing looks anything like the renders, I think I prefer its design over the Moto 360--truly looks like a proper watch. And 'For a perfect circle'--nice little shot over Motorola's bow concerning the black strip at the bottom of the 360's display.

Obviously far too soon with too little info to pass any sort of judgement. Going to be an exciting next few weeks though.

Problem with smartwatches seems to be daylight visibility, just like with smartphones.

I still don't know also if these smartwatches will get more updates after a year.

Will like to know if they can and will be updated to Android Wear 2 (or whatever it's called).

When was the LG G watch released? Just like 3 months ago? And now they're going to release a better version?

Do these companies think that all they need is a round face to get people to by into smartwatches? Honestly how many people want to wear big clunky things like this on their wrist, especially women? I'll bet this LG circular watch will be even bigger than the Almost 360 so they're able to give the illusion of a completely circular display. Like the Nest thermostat does with the big round black bezel.

Lmao! Damn, LG just spoiled Moto 360's parade! That's what Motorola get for taking forever to release the 360!

Here is a picture of it (someone posted this on The Verge) of what it would look like.

If they price this at $199, the 360 is (F) BIG time.

I think smart watches in general are F'd big time. Yeah mainstream tech sites/geeks are bored and are looking for the next big thing they can hype. But honestly I don't think it's smartwatches. And I think Apple will share the same fate if they mimic what Android OEMs are doing. Ben Bajarin wrote a good piece about this. Makes me think these devices will be niche just like Google Glass.

I disagree. Not because Apple is coming out with a smart watch, but because I feel as if its the next big thing. People expected tablets to be a failure, now look at them now. One more tech gadget won't hurt. Let's give smart watches a chance. In a few years, we'll know whether or not they will fail or succeed.

IMO, I think the iWatch is the next big thing for Apple. It is clear as day that they are HEAVILY invested in this watch. It's long overdue for the next major product from Apple. iPod (2001), iPhone (2007), iPad (2010) and now the iWatch (2014).

Agreed! I know for sure that my next big tech purchase is a smartwatch. Hopefully there are some waterproof/resistant ones coming out this fall.

Still not convinced by smartwatches. Unless you get a 100 new emails/texts ever hour, is it really so hard to take your phone out?

A glorified extension to your phone which offers no new functionality, for $250-350, is not my idea of money well spent.

The watch must offer functions on its own and be standalone as well. In a few years when we have the 2nd/3d iteration of these, then maybe it'll be worth a look.

I'm pretty happy with my square LG G watch. Not sure a watch needs to be round... I had several square and rectangular watches back in the day.

Perfectly happy with my Martian Notifier. A perfect blend of a real quartz movement watch with a nice, small and innocuous window to give me all my notifications.

I do understand why some either dislike smartwatches or don't think offer enough functionality to warrant the price tag.

However, I'm someone who is constantly unable to check my phone during work causing me to miss messages and calls with my phone being on silent in my pocket (I feel the vibration but cannot just stop to check). I can check my watch in a glance so a smartwatch will be very useful for me.

I also think these will be great for larger screen phones that can be cumbersome and for those times when I'm sat down and don't want to take my phone out of my pocket.

I've held off ever since the first Pebble for something more subtle and 'watch-like' and was all set on the 360 but this could be my buy instead. And then there's Apple...

Maybe it's a smaller, more geeky market but if they're designed attractively enough, the masses will be interested.

People also forget having your phone in your pocket while driving. The last thing I want to do at 80mph is desperately dig around my pocket for my phone before it stops ringing.

Not interested in a watch at all, smart or regular. I do not see them taking off

You seem to be in the minority with this view. Analysts are predicting an explosion of smart watch buyers in 2015. iWatch will likely spawn a wave of buyers for at least the next few years, or until the next big wearable comes into being.

Ahh to be young and free once again... One day you will run up against this thing called responsibility. Family, work, etc.
All of which come to an end when you take your eyes off the road and end up crashing your car. I think that was my point...

touche. I feel naked when I leave it at home. My phone pretty much sits in my pocket on silent all day now :)

But that IS my point, I do NOT want to be fishing around my pocket at 80mph. A quick glance at my wrist solves that problem very nicely.

Love my gear, it does all I need it to do. When you have a big phone sometimes you don't want to take your phone out. Great when on the go to see everything. Love it in the gym too changing music tracks. That I use a lot.

Really interesting. I still think the Moto 360 looks better but I've yet to fully grasp LG's new watch, too.

If the price was right and it had good fitness-tracking capabilities, I'd be interested.

But that goes for pretty much every smartwatch.
