Still not convinced by smartwatches. Unless you get a 100 new emails/texts ever hour, is it really so hard to take your phone out?

A glorified extension to your phone which offers no new functionality, for $250-350, is not my idea of money well spent.

The watch must offer functions on its own and be standalone as well. In a few years when we have the 2nd/3d iteration of these, then maybe it'll be worth a look.

Agreed. Until they are standalone products and don't need a smartphone, I have no dresire to get one.

The watch is ugly. Not very feminine at all!

If I get a smart watch it was most likely going to be Samsung anyway but this is a definite no no for me. I have to say the new gear S looks nice.

Looks like LG has taken the wraps of the G Watch R:

This is the LG G Watch R

It's just my opinion but that's a nice looking smartwatch--because it still looks like a traditional watch. Unfortunately LG is not going to be able to take advantage of the long wait we've had for the Moto 360 as it appears the G Watch R won't be available until sometime 4th quarter.

Kudos to LG, but I still think the Moto 360 looks better. The LG looks more like a real watch, but I actually want my smart watch to look special and unique and different from an everyday watch. I have no problem with it standing out as a unique time piece.

It'll be interesting to see what LG prices their watch at, too.

And needless to say, I can't wait to see what Apple will unveil with theirs.

I like them both. The LG has that Casio kind of look, which I don't really like, but it looks like a "regular" watch. I've fallen in love though with the Moto 360 in stainless with a stainless band, I cannot wait to actually see it in person.

No specs on the LG yet right? So we can't compare resolution, screen size, etc yet.

Ask and you shall receive. ;)

LG G Watch R Specs

I believe specs for these initial Android Wear offerings are pretty similar. The G Watch R and 360 both have 320x320 displays though the LG appears to be a touch smaller (1.5" vs. 1.3") so the pixel density will be a bit better.

I think they're both good looking devices, better than previous offerings for certain. I just think I like the LG better. The display glass on the 360 appears raised above the frame so I fear tons of scratches, the watch bands don't look easily interchangeable (don't know if they're standard size either), and the damn black strip at the bottom bothers me the more see it.

Regardless, it's a moot point for me as I'll be using an iPhone for the forseeable future.

I'm hoping for standalone and waterproof / safe for use in ocean

Otherwise I think I'll pass.

I do see a market for smart watches though, I'm just not in many scenarios where a tethered watch would be helpful.

Very nice, this is going to be a tough decision. I think the classiness of the 360 will end up winning me over. That is of it doesn't look goofy, we wont truly know until we can fondle them.

I ain't spend too much on these watches, especially the first-gen ones that currently barely do much.

Let's see in the next 3 weeks what happens but they shouldn't take advantage of early adopters if they are seriously.

Apple seems to have figured out how important the fitness-tracking side of it is. But then the iWatch will probably be £300-400 I guarantee.

its going to be interesting to see all of this play out since people have wildly varying preferences.

for example, I couldn't care less about the fitness tracking aspects, would much rather it was standalone and waterproof. Im sure loads of people couldnt care less about those features too though and would prefer the fitness aspect, or lightweight more fashion forward device etc...'

going to be lots of trial and error with the oem's i bet

I was interested in this, but no longer am. LG accomplished one thing: It looks like a regular watch. It's look too much like a regular watch for me, though. I want something that stands out on my wrist, like my gold watches.

This design fits my personal choice in watch style perfectly--big fan of the larger watch face and thicker style. I'd seriously consider picking one up if I was using and Android phone.

Ahh to be young and free once again... One day you will run up against this thing called responsibility. Family, work, etc.

Meh, all a part of a grander illusion that which we call the world we live in. :p

Back on topic - if there's anyone who could rush a product faster to market other than Samsung, it's none other than their neighbours next door. This is a shoddy attempt to steal moto's thunder. Why put any markings on the bezel? This thing is gaudy lookin and is no different than your run of the mill Casio. Why would LG even be proud of this?

I think they messed it up with the diving style ring, and from what I understand it doesn't move/spin? So it's not even functional. They should have just eaten the bezel or had the case come in a bit to provide protection. The phone is freaking huge, that or the guys arm pictured above is tiny.

Yeah this, why did they put those lines and number markings on that inner bezel? It will look totally stupid when not using an analog watch face.

The size doesn't look that horrible to me, but I wouldn't go for this particular style. Currently the upcoming Sony watch looks the best to me.

Looks like a traditional men's watch, tbh I kind of prefer this to the Moto 360 in some ways.
