Why don't you Get A Life? Obviously you must be such a miserable person to TROLL around picking fights on Macrumors. I am not some Illiterate computer user, and furthermore I do not appreciate you talking down to me and Insinuating that I'm a liar. What you need is to find God, Ask Jesus to be your savior, and maybe - just maybe Satan will leave you be. What does this mean? DUHHHH.

PS: You don't think I know a Macbook pro would, as you say, murder my current computer? Your something else. Your worse then something else. Now get outta here.

What's with the annoying capitalizations? I guess they don't teach grammar in Sunday school.

You can't simply compare clock speeds between architectures like that. GHz isn't everything, and there's not a 1:1 correlation between models.

Sandy Bridge has a superior architecture compared to the "old" i3-7 CPUs, which makes them a lot faster even at lower GHz.

The architecture is maybe 20% faster, the crucial difference is that Sandy Bridge can OC itself while all cores are running.

I just hope that Apple supports Intel's technology, They just started "advertising" Hyper-Threading. Let's hope they do the same with the new Speedboost.

Nehalems have Turbo too, even for all cores. It is limited to i5s and i7s though but that is the case with SB as well. SB's Turbo is more aggressive though.

Apple supports Turbo already, if there is something to support in the first place (software wise)

Geekbench your rig and compare it to a 2ghz 2011 MBP and get back to me.

Tissues at the ready ;)

Lower clock speed but far better architecture, it doesn't need the high clock speed, it doesn't just use brute power to do tasks anymore, it does them intelligently.

Good stuff.

Aging 2007 Core2Duo 24" iMac. Since you asked. Upgrading, obviously. target date: April 12th, 2011

(actually I'll upgrade on May 25th when the educational promotion comes out and they've release the bug fix for the must have graphics issues)

I was just messing with you but thanks!

And hm, the educational promotion thing is tempting. Not sure if I want to wait a month for it, though. What have been the promotions in the last year? Free iPod Touch right?

What do u mean educational promotion ? I go to stony brook university and they even have a special page on the apple website where u can buy an imac for $100 less than msrp, so i was planning to buy the NEW 2011 imac with the stony brook education discount.

are u saying that when the new imac comes out ,i wont be able to use my stony brook education discount until MAY 25? is MAY 25 some special date for education deals?

If I'm not mistaken, the promotion does not apply to the discount, but something extra. I think they gave away a free iPod Touch last year with the purchase of an iMac.

i dont understand, please explain to me. Right now on the apple website there is an education page for STONY BROOK university, heres a link to the stony brook store: http://store.apple.com/us_edu_139326

as u can see the 27 inch imac has a $100 discount. so my question is, when the new 2011 imac comes out, the new imac will have a $100 discount too right? but from the first day the new imac comes out or there will be a delay ?

And what is may 27 about? is it like a special education day where apple gives free stuff to students with a purchase of an imac?

So if i buy an iMac on may 27 with the $100 student discount from the apple education store, they will also give me something free like say an ipod touch like they did last year?(im not say definitely ipod touch as no one knows what they will give this year)

Yes you'll get the discount too, immediately.
No you'll not get something free like an iPod because they do that as an 'back to school' ad, which is for august/september.

So what does the promotion offer?

Usually between late May and September, Apple has offered Back To School promotion which means students can get a free iPod (not all models apply) with their Mac (not all Macs apply). This is a rebate thing so you must buy the iPod with the Mac and pay the full price and then send a rebate form to Apple. In couple of months, you should get the money you paid for the iPod back.

Basically the above is correct. Around may 20 to sept 5 if you buy a student mac you get the normal student discount and a 200 usd ipod touch. They leave out mac minis and ipads.

If you buy a 13 inch mac book pro it is a good deal.

last year the 13 inch macbook pro was about 1099 with the student discount the ipod touch rebate was 200.

so you paid 1099 plus 200 or 1299 ( I kept sales tax out of the figures)

up front and they mailed you a 200 check 6 or 8 weeks later.

Last year macbook pro imac and macbook air were in on the promo.

I know they leave mac minis out along with ipads.

So i ran the test, I got 4327.

CPU integer performance of 3686.

CPU floating point performance of 6473.

RAM performance of 2876.

RAM bandwidth performance of 1969.

You know, your absolutely right. About a few months ago a google search led me to this post as to why clock speeds aren't everything. But novice user will look at them and go for the one which looks faster. Like what Intel tried to do with the Pentium 4 to compete with AMD. I still think they need to raise them a little, it is 2011. 2 Ghz is 2005, it should at least be 2.5 Ghz.

since the ipod touch is with a rebate i dont think its worth waitinf for september, by the way, how do u guys know when the BACK TO SCHOOL event is happening? does apple send an email or what?

When they're doing the back to school promotion they have banners in the store section of their website.

if anyone here is waiting for the back to school promotion & is whining about why the latest iMac hasn't been released yet, then there's something wrong with that person as 1. You'll be waiting another 3-8 months
2. You do NOT need a iMac right now
