S4 Owners, please read.

I just swapped my HTC One for a Galaxy S4 about 30 minutes ago. I rooted it, and am wanting to install a ROM.

Do you guys prefer CM10 or the Google Edition ROMs? An issues with either? Such as tethering/data settings didn't work on the GE ROM for the HTC One.

Using the GE ROM. Might switch to the Task AOKP ROM though. It has more tweaks and such that I like better than the stock GE ROM.

I'm mostly just wanting a stable ROM, where all the core functions work (Bluetooth, tethering, etc) and the CM10 MMS app, which I could sideload onto any ROM. Do you know if the current Nightlies on CM10 is stable? Any issues with the GE ROM and could ya link me to it's XDA page?

Super stable. Zero issues on this one. Haven't tried tethering though.

I'll link you to everything (GE and Task Roms) tonight when I'm back from work.

The Task one has to be my favorite ROM out there. I've been using it since my S3.

Google Edition should be rock solid since it's officially supported by Samsung.

CM10 is only coming from nightlies right now and there's a bug where sound in calls isn't working, so I'd avoid that for the minute.

The Task AOKP ROM has no major issues to report. I used it for a few days before switching to the GE ROM

I prefer GE. Because every thing works flawless and it was specifically made by the OEM for the handset.

Wouldn't mind aokp but task is not supporting Canadian S4s this time round and I think I would rather go PA. Still, I find GE to be the best, of course IMO.

I used task and ktoons kernel fir a while. Missed the tw camera too much so moved on to wicked rom. My favorite aosp rom for the s3 liquid smooth is out for the s4. May give it a go when I get bored

That's the only bug I'm aware of but it's so damn annoying. I might switch to Omega tonight because the GE is just too plain for me.

Problem is it's a very major one... if a ROM stops your phone from working as a phone it's a no-go IMO. I'm sure it'll be fixed pretty soon though.

There's just a few tweaks in CM10 I love. Such as the close all recent apps, customizeable quick toggles, and the CM10 MMS app. You can sideload the MMS app to other ROMs though.

I've been running AOKP for about three weeks now. Rock solid.

I agree it's probably one of the worst bugs a phone can have and I'm surprised it still hasn't been fixed. Invisiblek (CM i9505 maintainer) has said it's their top priority bug so I hope it'll be fixed soon.

Battery percentage, pressing clock in notification bar for clock app and date for calendar app, separate volume for notifications and calls, more quick toggles that you can actually use to toggle things instead of opening apps, lock screen app targets, control the function of the hardware buttons, skip tracks with volume buttons < just some of the features I use off the top of my head

Im on the Sprint version and i've been running Carbon ROM pretty good so far, I heard the CM nightlies are pretty well done so far haven't really used one yet though.

Used the bundled kernel and it was fine. However yesterday I flashed audism's GE kernel v4 (you will find it in the i9505 s4's development thread) and the differences are almost zero compared to the bundled kernel. At least IMO.

What I like is that even though I am running firmware that didnt actually ship with my phone, everything works as if it were shipped from factory. Just like a nexus. HOWEVER, I prefer nexus on screen buttons, and that sweet LCD (once calibrated of course). I am looking at the newer nexus in fall to see if google fixes some of the n4 shortcomings, especially battery life, and I might buy one. If not, my current setup is working flawless. Samsung's buttons however do make me feel frustrated at times.

I haven't tried on the GE ROM but on CM it's easy to get the nav bar and disable the buttons. If you want to try I can give you the instructions so just make a nandroid first.

I have looked at cm but the bugs like in call audio are going to keep me away unfortunately. Flashing Samsung phones atleast is as easy as 1-2-3 though lol. Once rooted and with custom recovery, all you gotta do is wipe the usual and flash the zip most of the time.

Even with the on screen buttons through a custom rom though, the always present buttons will still annoy me (the home button most probably as my white phone hides the rest nicely).

I actually prefer Samsung's buttons. My brother has a Nexus 4 and its awesome but the buttons take up screen real estate.

Yeah I love CM, using it on my Nexus 7 right now. There's one thing I miss from AOKP though and that's the centred clock and adjustable transparency in the statusbar. The centred clock especially just looks so much better. Plus you can put the day of the week on there too.

If I'm feeling adventurous I may try and build my own one from source and kang the statusbar features from AOKP. Couldn't get it to work last time I tried building from source though.

You can turn off the light on the menu and back buttons so you wouldn't even know they're there.

If you do try it make sure you have a lot of time. People don't joke when they say it takes hours and requires downloading 10GB of code

I've also been meaning to try Ubuntu on my Nexus 4 but again, been too lazy
