I just made a Youtube video detailing an overall comparison of the S6 Edge with the iPhone 6:

Here's the TLDWatch version:

S6 Edge isn't as good of a phone overall in terms of performance and usage.

S6 Edge's camera and (especially front camera) is really good and worth keeping it for day to day usage (especially on vacation!)

S6 Edge has huge memory problems right now, and overall Android isn't up to par with iOS yet. Shame on Google and Samsung.

The camera is so good though, I'll probably end up carrying around the S6 Edge daily and dealing with an inferior overall smartphone experience.

you do know that just about ALL review sites disagree with you? Some of us have both phones and completely disagree with your findings and viewpoint.
S6 has a belter screen, camera, ram, hard drive, and performance.
I know where this thread is headed....so just wanted to get in early so I can get out.....

Disagreement is a good thing.

Sure, the specs on the Android phones are always going to be better, but real world performance doesn't reflect specs.

Easy example - the memory management. 3GB RAM in the S6 Edge loses big time to the 1GB in the iPhone (for now).

That is your opinion. But look on YouTube and you will see tons of side by side real world usage videos and the S6 is faster. Then all the benchmarks performance results show the S6 blows the iPhone away.

There will never be a fair comparison between the iPhone and the Galaxy S phones, as they are released about 6 months apart from each other. The more fair comparison would be the upcoming iPhone 6s+ against the upcoming Galaxy Note 5.

My S6 Edge doesn't do that at all. No refreshes here. And I rarely manually close apps.

But I'm not discounting your experience, cause a friend of mine had ram issues on his S6 edge and apps would refresh frequently. Those affected with ram issues, I can understand your judgement. But realize your the minority. Still it seems like a large minority, like a good 15-20 percent. Samsung's fault on that.

Also I like Google Music better for many reasons.

The S6/S6 edge has the fastest and best 'point n shoot' camera to date.

Are you on 5.1.1? I have a Verizon device so I'm still on 5.0.2. From what I've read though, the 5.1.1 does not address the memory issue at all.

Can you post a video showing your S6 Edge at work? The memory leak is supposedly a Lollipop issue, so I don't see how your device is magically exempt.

If you watch my video (Around 5:40), the memory leak issue is clearly shown. This is a device that was factory reset after an OTA 5.0.2 update, freshly debloated, and both devices were freshly restarted.

I'm on 5.1.1, but I haven't had any ram/refresh problems on 5.0.2 or 5.1.1. I'm on a T-mobile branded device.

If the memory leak was a Lollipop issue, then other devices would have the same problem. Haven't experienced the problem on the Note 4 on Lollipop nor on my Nexus 7 tablet.

There are already many Youtube videos that show they don't have that issue on the S6 Edge either. So my device is not magically exempt, but rather the majority norm. Otherwise you would have heard about a huge returns number of the S6.

In fairness to the OP let's not pretend there isn't a memory issue for a good share of edge owners. I should know after all it was my posts on Xda that brought this issue into the media limelight in the firstplace.

Whilst certainly not everyone seems to be affected, for those that are, the Edge can be a tormenting user experience.

And firmware updates and even different firmwares never solved the issue on mine unfortunately ruining my enjoyment of the device completely.

So let's not flame the OP or go over defensive here. There is an issue, the scale of which we do not know (likely a very small percentage) but it doesn't negate that it happens to some and devalue their opinion / experience when it does.

I don't think anyone has flamed or put down the OP. Quite the opposite everyone seems to say while they do not deny his experiences. .....not all experiences are the same.

From everything I read, the memory leak is present on all Lollipop devices, and the S6/Edge experience it the worst.

I personally don't agree memory issues affects ALL Lollipop devices. If it actually does, it has to vary to the point that most of us don't experience refreshes.

Can you show a video of your S6 not refreshing? Or any video on Youtube? I'm trying to find a video on Youtube of an S6 not having memory problems.

It's a simple test of cycling through 6 apps and seeing if it can handle that (the iPhone 6 can handle 6 apps with 1GB of memory as I showed in my video). I'm going to do some more testing now but from my experience my GS 6 Edge can keep a maximum of 2-3 apps in memory. (!!!) which is horrendous.

Thanks, yes I'd like to some proof of devices without this issue. I'd be happy to get 6 recent apps to stay in memory on the S6.

Your first two responses in this thread were very 'shoot your opinion down' style.

They could have been worded better tbh ;)

Anyway...

But like I say I worder if there is an issue with some DDR4 ram in some units? I never tried the build prop trick as I won't root as I need warranty for resale but I did try various official firmwares but to no avail on mine. Certainly 5.1.1 didn't fix it for me either.

It's still a blazingly fast device but just frustrating as when you are affected by the refreshes it makes the daily experience slower than my other devices which don't suffer (Z3, Nexus 6 & IPhone 6+)

It is horrendous, but in fairness the other way you have to accept that others don't have the issue. My posts on Xda that started all this 'agressive ram' issue proves to me that it's only a minority that are suffering otherwise it would have garnered greater traction after all the media outlets used it as basis for their ram articles.

I think it's unlikely to be a hardware problem given its reported prevalence in Lollipop devices.

I just tested my S6 Edge, and the MAX it can keep in memory is 3 apps!

Flipboard, Facebook, and CM Browser. Any app opened after that triggers a reload.

I'm curious because I can't find any video proof showing a device that doesn't have the issue, they may simply not be aware of it.

It's a simple test, cycle through 5-6 apps and show me they can stay in memory, why hasn't anyone uploaded a video?

I have and have had multiple lollipop devices in past few months. This is not a lollipop issue.

Z3, Nexus 6, Moto X, HTC M9, Note 4, Galaxy Alpha, S6 Edge

The Edge was the only Samsung one that suffered noticeably. The Alpha ran better on Kikat but still doesn't refresh like the Edge and the Note 4 only really suffered with the early German Dbt lollipop firmware, the later released firmware didn't have the issue.

The other devices on either 5.0.2 or 5.1 or 5.1.1 do not have this memory at all.

Therefore it's not lollipop, it's something more specific.

Any specific 6 apps you'd like me to try? Or can I open up: Chrome with a couple tabs, PocketCasts, Maps, Tumbler, YouTube, and OneNote? Would those be acceptable ones?

Hmm, in that case, it must be a Samsung issue... I'd still like to see those who say it doesn't affect their S6 or S6 edge show a quick video demonstrating more than 3 Apps that can stay in memory...

Yes, anything you'd like! Please give your carrier, OS version number and etc, I'd appreciate it. I might have to return my S6 Edge if others on Verizon don't have this problem...

If it happens for you it would happen on all including basic stock apps including contacts, dialer, clock, messaging, calendar too.

My original video...

Comparison to Z3 just now with 12 apps open and no refreshing

Sprint, most recent update to 5.1.1 that they just sent out a couple days ago. Not an Edge, but a normal S6. Sadly, I messed it up in the video and did more than 6 apps. I think the phone did quite well, though.

[YouTube]

I don't really have a lot of apps on my phone, or I'd use more and others.

I figured I'd record it anyway. Poor quality, but 4k if it makes up for it. I'll try not to have myself in it as much as possible. I'll put the video up in about an hour and a half when it gets done uploading. Apparently, I dragged on for three minutes and it got to be a gig.

Lol, thanks!

Also, have you noticed any differences between 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 (if you used it before the update)?

Quick screen recorder test. Note that this screen recorder app was bogging down my S6 edge big time almost to a stand still. I'll try to shoot it from an external cam later on.
