First iphone 7 review I can see. Reviewer thinks the camera versus the s7/note 7 is essentially a draw. And that it's great that the iPhone has caught up but this should've been a phone in 2015. I agree. But otherwise great review. Highlights include better battery life, waterproofing, and improved low light camera.

iPhone 7 Review: The Anti-Anxiety iPhone

They're starting to pop up everywhere now. I only casually perused it but the Verge's review seems fair...gave it a rating of 9 (vs. 9.3 for the Note 7). Their conclusion seems rather on point...my only beef is no mention of cost, their first criticism of the Note 7 yet the 7+ averages the same price.

I'm still going through it, but I hate this part regarding the Taptic feedback home button:

"This system works tremendously well on MacBooks, but on the iPhone 7 it feels like the entire bottom of the phone is clicking, not like you’re pushing a button."

That sounds really disappointing (and cheap). This is one of my most sought after features; no more physical home buttons. I hope Samsung's implementation isn't some lame copy of this. They ought to just keep it capacitive.

EDIT: Finished the review. The conclusion really struck me, especially this last paragraph:

"The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are legitimately among the most interesting, opinionated, powerful phones Apple has ever shipped, and the most confident expressions of the company’s vision in a long time. iOS 10 is excellent, the cameras are better, and the performance is phenomenal. And the batteries last longer. These are terrific phones.

But they are also incomplete. The most interesting feature of the iPhone 7 Plus’ new dual camera isn’t shipping at launch. Apple’s making a big bet on iMessage and Siri apps in iOS 10 but it hasn’t paid off yet. Apps haven’t been updated to use the Taptic Engine or the new wide color gamut display. The entire ecosystem of new headphones and adapters required to make use of Lightning and wireless audio is just getting off the ground. Only Apple or Beats headphones offer the best wireless audio experience, and you might not like how they sound or fit. By the time developers even come close to hitting the performance limits of the A10 Fusion chip, Apple will be shipping the A11 Fusion Pro with six blades.

The entire time I was using the iPhone 7, I felt like I had a prototype of next year’s rumored drastic iPhone redesign disguised as an iPhone 6. All those bold bets on the future are legitimately exciting, but here in the present using the iPhone 7 in a case feels a lot like using a iPhone 6S with a weirder home button and more adapters."

Yep to this. I think Apple is going to kill it with the 2017 iPhone.

Also, I dislike that the Verge review (and I predict most reviews will do the same) just glosses over the iPhone 7 Plus size:

"Apple’s competition is getting better at making beautiful phones, and nothing about the iPhone 7’s design exceeds the rest of the industry. The iPhone 7 Plus in particular is actually falling behind its large-screened competition; the 6 Plus was always a bit of a surfboard, and new devices like the Galaxy Note 7 fit enormous displays into much smaller, tighter packages. (Too bad about the explosions, though.) This is still a phone that looks best in a case."

That is putting it politely. The 2017 iPhone Plus needs to solve this. Especially if they're going to force users to the bigger model to get the best/most out of the camera. The Verge review says the standard 7 camera is only a "step improvement" over the standard 6S.

Seems like more than one reviewer has said that they don't like the new Home button and the Taptic feedback.

See, just goes to show that users experiences can vary so widely---I'm having much the opposite experience. There are many aspects of Android I like, some even more than iOS but unfortunately, web browsing isn't one of them. In fact, I find it so far inferior that it's pretty much making up my mind for me.

Having a consistent web experience across all of my devices is at the top of my priority list. Specifically, I want syncing across all devices with the ability to quickly transition from one to another. That means I'm not going to use different browsers on different devices, thus limiting me to those available on all platforms so that means Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera. I'll be upfront that Safari is easily my favorite, offering IMO the best experience on mobile (phone and tablet) but unfortunately, in classic Apple fashion, I can't get it outside of Apple devices. I can use any of these on the desktop (though Chrome is damn power hungry on the Mac) but Chrome, Firefox and Opera all have glaring weakness on tablets, smartphones, or both.
Also Safari is the default browser. To go back/forward, with default settings you just swipe back or forward. On the S7's default browser, you have to for instance make a scrolling gesture to make the controls visible again, then aim to tap a tiny forward or back button before it disappears again. Or am I missing something?

I was in the same boat I traded my galaxy s7 in on an iPhone 7, the s7 lagged so bad it was terrible. And believe it or not this iPhone has a better battery life then the s7, I can go all day without charging this one and still be on it, and the s7 I had to charge 2-3 times a day. And watch the YouTube video about the water test on the s7 and iphone7 the iPhone won at 35 feet. The galaxy died. The iPhone did have water under the screen but it still worked. Ha. Yeah right. So I must immediately trade in my wonderful S7E that lasts over a day, takes great photos and is lag free all because someone like you tells me it's rubbish. Sorry I forget the other reason - because I can't take the S7 to 35 feet under water!

Get real please.

While to me I don't care about the waterproofing, you have to admit in that one test, an interesting unexpected outcome happened.

[repost]

I thought a couple months ago during the time they were being leaked, the design and removal of the headphone jack would be the most disappointing aspects of the iPhone 7 series. Who knew it would turn out to be the yellowish displays and camera? The home button doesn't seem so bad but I don't like moving, vibrating components inside it. I prefer no moving parts for less wear and tear.

The thread starter got 33+ likes for it while the "Who actually loves their iPhone 7 Plus?" thread doesn't get the same amount of the replies and likes. It doesn't seem to be that bad. At least you don't have to deal with bomb jokes like Note7 owners do. But it doesn't seem to be all that either and anyone could make a case it isn't the best at anything except offering you iOS.

For Android users, what else is new since 2012 when owning an iPhone? Another year for us to shrug off the latest iPhone...

My personal rankings for my uses -
1. LG V20 (silver)
2. Samsung Galaxy Note7 (black)
3. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (silver)
4. Xiaomi Mi 5 (white)
5. Apple iPhone 7 Plus (jet black or maybe matte)

Sony hasn't impressed me much in two years except that they use a less laggy skin than Samsung.

Hissing isn't new to the iPhone 7.

I talked to the Apple Store employees who set my new 7+ up for today. I managed to get one by pure luck because I got the run around through Apple's 1-800 # this week. It's a Silver model, so I have to wait till the Black comes into stock now.

Today i was in the apple store to checkout the new iPhone 7+.
I forgot over the last 2 years how chunky and heavy it is compared to my S7 Edge.
I couldn't live with such huge bezels these days.
You need courage to release a phone with this bad screen to body ratio in 2016:D
Also unboxtherapy was right in his iphone 7 unboxing video, the matte black iphone 7/7+ is so slippery, unbelievable.

Why do people still pay 800+ for a smartphone when you have Chinese alternatives like One plus, ZTE and Nubia for half the price, with the same specs and the right bands. It offers everything.

I just ordered myself the Nubia Z11 international and it looks way better than a iPhone or Samsung while it haves the same Snapdragon 820 and storage for just €449, euro's.

The s7 edge us very slippery also. I almost dropped the first untethered one I picked up. Courage is needed by Samsung today.

It's like why buy a KIA when you can buy a Lexus? Samsung and Apple are the Lexus of smartphones.

That's one stupid argument. The KIA runs on a different (mostly cheaper) engine with less expensive interior materials being used when you compare it to a Lexus. Of course it values a different price range. Which is completely different if you base that false argument on a smartphone with the same internals (facts) and better design (subjective). Anyway, everyone has his own preferences, but I would never spend twice the money on a smartphone which runs the same, while the same hardware being used.

Have you been in the newer KIA Candenza or K900? That is Lexus quality. http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/k900/2016

Or Hyundai Genesis.

I used my dad's 7+ for a whole 2 days and ..it's.. ok, IMO.

I don't see any significant discernible difference between my 6S+ and the 7+, to be honest. He got the matte black, and sure it looks great and feels a bit less slippery compared to the 6S+, but in normal usage (I don't play games on it) negligible difference.

I also didn't like the warmer tint on the 7+

Now, on topic, I'll def. prefer keeping my Note 7 (whenever I am able to get a replacement) over the 7+

As for the my iPhone fix, the 6S+ will do just fine for another year!

I currently have an iPhone 6 Plus but I'm pretty bored with it. It works well, battery life is pretty good, but it's just dull. I went to the Apple Store and checked out the iPhone 7 Plus. I must say my feelings haven't changed since it's basically the same phone and I just don't feel like spending $800+ on a new phone that's 90% the same as mine.

I'm gonna wait until the Pixel announcement and decide.

As a Network & Cyber Security Admin for the past few years.. I'd steer way clear of Chinese designed & manufactured tech products that store sensitive data ( this is different from devices like iPhones, Samsungs... )

Just picked up the iPhone 7 Plus 128gb in Gold. So far I not having any issues others are with the display. The whites are white, and the colors in general look slightly more vibrant than my former 6S Plus.

The headphone adapter feels like it's going to break very quickly.

Now I just have to wait for my Note 7 replacement and I'll be straight.
