got that nomadic lifestyle
my path to iPhone...

I've been an Android user since the beginning. after the Galaxy S6 edge, I thought I'd try the 6s Plus to use side-by-side with it. then it was the 6s Plus side-by-side with the Note5. then the Note5 side-by-side with the 5s. then the Note5 side-by-side with the SE. then two SEs side-by-side. and now the SE side-by-side with the 7 Plus. (I was also going to pick up the Note 7 like I always do every year, but I just wasn't impressed enough - it had the same camera as on the S7 which I wasn't a fan of. I preferred the Note5 camera.) it came down to the OS. iOS was always smoother and usually just works, and its version apps just work well with iOS. all I could see was just how much more reliable it was.

I know these sizes aren't equal, but which phone is better for me? I currently have the S7. Here is why I am on the fence right now:

S7: Bigger battery (when it works, it works well as long as software doesn't fubar it), Gear VR (hardly use it, but awesome to have and show off), more software features, cleaner design, faster charging, more future proof LTE hardware with 4x4 MIMO w/ T-Mobile, wireless charging, higher water resistance standard, better camera, SD slot, QHD display, AMOLED tech, android customization, headphone jack, notification LED, Always on Display, and better looking UI.

iPhone 7 Plus: 3D Touch being useful in iOS 10, cleaner software, Apple Customer Service, no frills, fastest processor and benchmarks on the market, ionized Black designed phone, better ram management, no need to waste resources on features I don't need, IP67 is fine enough, comes with the headphone adapter, much improved cameras, new home button, better standby battery life management, dual stereo speakers, iMessage, FaceTime, better app selection, nice app switching, and the iPhone works well with my MBP.

Why I don't think making the move would be right at this time: The S7 is great enough as it is and I just need a software update to patch my battery life issues in addition to get the new 4x4 MIMO tech for faster data speeds. In addition, Samsung and T-Mobile are testing 5G speeds already. $300-$400 extra for "less" doesn't seem too feasible or smart at this time. Even if I go through the Apple Upgrade program, I will still be wasting $ in installments. The AMOLED panels Samsung offer are amazing. The S8 is closer than people think, especially given the absurd spec line of 6GB RAM, 4K HDR screen, etc. I'll get the itch for the S8 anyways.

The iPhone 7 Plus has no headphone jack, meaning trouble with Aux audio in my car. No quick charge means long iPhone charge times still. Music is a bit of a headache to get because of iTunes. Ringtones aren't easily created either. Apple's profile build is quite awkward too. To add, there are too many rumors for the iPhone 8 or 7S, whatever it will be called. There is too much of a tech gap to just go after benchmarks and real world speed usage when it's very negligible between the S7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Less isn't more.

So, right now, I could get up at 3:01 am and make my preorder, or I can just stay with what I have, follow through with my original plan to get the S8 in summer 2017 while my S7 serves as my daily driver. Thoughts?
I had the galaxy s7 it sucked, it lagged all the time had to recharge the battery 2-3 times a day. Get the iPhone you won't be disappointed, this is my first one and I love it, the battery will last all day no problem.

Already got the iPhone 7+, so I have to close the topic. Thanks. Got a Matte Black 256GB since the 128GB was too hard to find and I needed something asap and put it on the IUP.

Damn, that's not fair. I got the 128gb cause the 256gb was too hard to find.

How do you like it?

Great so far. Stand by time is top notch. The screen is noticeably brighter too. 3D Touch is more useful. iOS 10's iMessaging features are terrific. The camera is a wash with the S7. The Matte body is sleek. The dual speakers are decent. The phone is really quick as well. No lag, timely updates off the bat, and using a lightning port for headphones instead of the headphone jack isn't a huge deal. Overall, I am rally pleased with the 7+. Will upgrade to the 8 next year since I am on the IUP.

Well, 128s were easier to find for Verizon. I had an option to go 32GB, but that's way too little. I just decided to take 256 because the local Apple Store near me gave me the runaround and another store stepped into help.

How is the standby time on your iPhone 7+? Mine has been absolutely horrific and I'm in the process of getting the phone exchanged. I lose 8-10% overnight in standby with no sim card installed with my 7+.

So far, so good. I use airplane mode + wifi on together. Though this model is only a few hrs old. I charge my phones overnight anyways.

Loving my Note 7 for fun and I'm on the forum now with it. It's almost an iPad killer for me when the 6S Plus couldn't manage that. But I'm scared to stick a big glass phone in my pocket so I'm still using my SE a lot. I do like the sturdy build of an iPhone for my daily driver. I'm not digging the all glass iPhone rumors. Have a good weekend and enjoy your new phones whatever they may be.

My sim card is still in my S7E for now but even with Airplane mode + WiFi, the drain is far too excessive. I've done a couple restores but nothing seems to help. I think the governor in the CPU is not allocating resources correctly and is getting stuck on the high power cores instead of defaulting to the low power cores while in an idle state.

Another 7+ that a friend bought is having severe issues with the Camera. The Camera freezes upon startup and doesn't respond for upwards of minute.
A little bit shocked there is this many issues but I guess I was one of the lucky ones this time as a lot of people don't have any issues.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Just find the right case to give you the right protection and less weight. Sucks the screen protectors are terrible for the S7 Edge and the Note 7 because of the curved screens. The SE is a great little champ for what it offers. All glass would be interesting, but not appreciated from me because I think the 7000 series Aluminum is a solid build with the 7+. I hope you have a great weekend as well. Let us know if you decide to switch around your phones too. The new replacement Note 7s should be in soon. I think carriers will push a green battery icon update to show that your phone will not be at risk!

Yikes, looks like Apple won't have warranty replacements for awhile unless they set stock aside as a reserve requirement. Launch windows are always a mess. Early adopters will get crappy defects and bugs. I said I wouldn't buy another iPhone at launch, but with a Nexus 5X my family has a phone lying around, I took the risk. Waiting on Samsung to process a refund for me because I last spoke to them earlier this week when they offered a replacement. If not, I'll flip the new phone. Very little patience for Samsung this time by because of all the safety issues they created.
