Safari used to be absolutely miserable for browsing and opening a page with a lot of pictures/videos. It would load slow and just not let you scroll for a while and when you could the page splits and is choppy. Just really, really awful on Mavericks. Slow in general.

Using the Safari on Yosemite it is night and day how much faster it is. I could see myself using Safari as the daily option instead of Opera.

Very impressed. I'm not sure why it's so much faster now but I am happy about it.

As far as I'm concerned Safari has never been slow or miserable when downloading anything. But Safari in Yosemite has absolutely blown everything away.

Yeah, it's noticeably faster. I used to have sites that would choke on Safari but render much faster on Chrome. Not anymore!

They still kind of choke on Safari 8 + Adblock Plus though, but that's because Safari's plugin performance was probably not improved. Maybe one day we'll get uBlock for Safari...

Also - scrolling tabs instead of tab limit and closing tabs with middle click! Finally!!!

ABP is crap. Try Adblock at getadblock.com

Anyone else missing the thing when you open Safari and immediately start typing it types on the search bar ?

Now I have to click on the search bar before typing... :( Or am I missing something ?

Agreed, i also think OS X Yosemite is faster than Mavericks, i have noticed a faster speed on my 2011 MBP. So far i'm loving Yosemite.

One thing that's slower is the stupid new cloud tab view. takes a second or two to load, versus the instant and less obtrusive menu in Mavericks. Annoying.

IMO the opposite is true. The Adblock developer is worse at optimization, update frequency, communication, interface... and despite all that he keeps begging for donations.
I personally don't think he deserves donations since he used another project's name and icon to get the huge userbase he has right now (that said, ABP developers are bigger scumbags)

However both ABP and Adblock pale when compared to µBlock which is ridiculously fast and efficient.

did you guys install the beta flash player or the normal flash player? seems like my youtube playback is screwed up after installing the normal flash player on safari 8

I like to use keyboard shortcuts.
In Yosemite - Safari it SUCKS at this!

I already submitted this to apple.

If you hit CMD+T a new tab opens.
Then if you start typing - nothing happens. So you gotta grab the mouse and go to the navigation bar and click and then you can type.

It was better before in mavericks....

Not a big deal - but for those like me who like to use it like that - more like key striking guys... it's not an improvement ...

any alternative adblocker for safari other than adblock plus and adblock?? that doesn't slow down safari?

Upgraded to Yosemite, and I'm not seeing this happen at all. New tabs automatically allow me to start typing without the need to place a cursor.

Did not notice it was WAYYYYY better, in fact it crashes often here, but I've always preferred Safari on the Mac as opposed to any other browser :

- Chrome is anything but native (PDFs, App Preferences, Titlebar, etc... I can't stand Google's arrogant attitude developing software on the Mac).
- Firefox' interface, I don't like
- And the rest of them are either junk or have such a small share that they don't evolve as quickly as browsers made by companies who inject money in them.

In the end Safari has always been one of the fastest and lightest browsers around, thanks to its WebKit engine.

Edit : The thing I HATE about Safari though is the Web Inspector. When they introduced the "new" web inspector a few years ago, they completely nailed it. I had never seen something as good. Then, a year later they "revamped" it, made it worse. Another year has passed, they did another "revamp" which was again worse than the previous revamp. I think the best Inspector was around 2010, oh God was it convenient to use ! But as I mentioned it lasted probably just a year or two on the Webkit builds, probably less than a year on the consumers' version of Safari.

Agreed. Safari 7.0 was far from perfect. It was such a displeasure for me to use that I started using Chrome as my default browser. Now that I've gotten the chance to use Safari 8.0 I think I'll be making the switch back to Safari.

Same problem here. I have to TAB 2 times. That made me instantly switch over to Chrome. Safari so far so good except the Tabbing twice in order to navigation into the search bar or CLICK.

i just hope they make extensions easier to write because i know of developers that have given up on creating safari extensions. like the author of xkit completely discontinued his extension but continues writing it for every other browser. huge bummer.

is there an ad blocker that works on youtube ads for new safari?

That's definitely not normal behavior. Have you tried any TS? You can create a new user and test it in there to see if the issue is system wide (I doubt it is.) I think pulling a plist file could fix it.

Its VERY irritating, that when you open a new tab, you have to click the search bar to type. Thats annoying. But Safari is much faster now. But has always been my favorite browser.

Interesting reading the comments. I agree I really like the new Safari 8, but I refuse to use the web without some sort of Adblock installed.

Why won't Apple support extensions better? I use Adblock Plus on Firefox (windows bootcamp) and it runs fantastic, just such a shame it doesn't run well on Safari and block Youtube ads properly.

'RESET' Safari

I would love it if that 'feature' was still there. Not sure why they removed it. Was an easy, quick, way to remove Cookies, History, etc. Maybe it'll be added back in?
