I would love it if that 'feature' was still there. Not sure why they removed it. Was an easy, quick, way to remove Cookies, History, etc. Maybe it'll be added back in?

I agree! Troubleshooting Safari issues, this option usually cleared everything up.

Yes it is very good but sadly still no match to Chrome specialy in rendering pages with zoom on.

Just to eliminate the possibility that your Safari installation could have been corrupted, here's my Safari (which doesn't have that problem): http://www29.zippyshare.com/v/81490178/file.html

If that still doesn't work, I have another theory: The issue could be limited to Retina Macs. Is there someone here with Retina and no problem, to eliminate this theory ?

Another thing to try: toggling Full Keyboard Access in Keyboard > Shortcuts, maybe that's affecting it.

I'm having the issue on an iMac 27. Fresh Yosemite (USB) installation PB1.

I also tried logging in to a new user (Guest one in this case) with the same issue happening. I need to press TAB twice to go to the typing field whenever opening Safari or a new tab.

:(

Already submitted bug report to Apple. If you have the issue do the same, in case this is a "feature" to let them know people don't like it :D

I also tried messing with the Keyboard settings as suggested by inked with no success.

Tried your Safari.app and toggling Full Keyboard Access: no effect. Also restored defaults for all keyboard shortcuts, deleted safari.plist and tried creating a new user account: no effect.

I'm using a Retina Mac.

I like to use keyboard shortcuts.
In Yosemite - Safari it SUCKS at this!

I already submitted this to apple.

If you hit CMD+T a new tab opens.
Then if you start typing - nothing happens. So you gotta grab the mouse and go to the navigation bar and click and then you can type.

It was better before in mavericks....

Not a big deal - but for those like me who like to use it like that - more like key striking guys... it's not an improvement ...

Here's how to make this work... open Preferences -> General. When new tab opens, select Empty Page. That's the key. With that selected, anytime you open a new tab, focus goes to the address bar.

Did not fix the focus issue for me, but made switching workspaces much smoother than it was with the Top Sites view :)

Mine does exactly what you want it to do when i click Command + T.

I'm thinking you might be experiencing a bug. I'm sure it'll be worked out in Golden Master if not sooner. Don't forget you're using beta software. :)

Yes, which is why I've also reported it to Apple, and hope it'll be fixed in the next beta.

In the meantime it would be nice to find a solution to this small but irritating issue.

I like the new Safari too - very fast, and nice slim UI.

But I kinda hate the way that adding something to your reading list now takes two clicks instead of one, as they shifted it to the "Share" button. Which doesn't really make sense, considering I'm just sharing it with myself.

There is no reading list + button available in the customise toolbar settings either. Bit of a shame to lose this from Mavericks.

The + button should appear, if you move your cursor to the left side of the address bar.

Edit: seems to actually appear if you move your cursor anywhere on the address bar.

Huh. Okay - thanks! I guess I would have found that eventually... but that seems an unnecessary function to hide :p

Few days update:

Wow is it ever faster. There are a few forums I visit where the whole page is youtube videos or pictures and comparing old safari vs new safari isn't even a comparison.

Loads almost instantly now vs what it used to be which was a nightmare speed wise.

Thanks for trying. It's really annoying that this bug doesn't seem to be related to anything noticeable.

Well, if it makes it to the final release of Yosemite, I'll probably make a SIMBL plugin to make it behave as expected.

Here
Safari 7 was never bad (at least for my use). Safari 8 seems a little faster at rendering, but much smoother at zooming. They finally made a useful "tab view," though I still don't think I'll use it. I actually think centered bookmarks makes sense once I got used to it, but the font needs to be bolder.

One thing I haven't experienced yet is how in Safari 7 a site would randomly hang at 1/3  and you would have to quit and relaunch it. That happens a lot in Safari 7 to 7.0.5, but it has yet to happen in Safari 8.

Issues:
- I miss the iCloud tabs button instead of having to go into the tab view.
- To me the drop down list of excess tabs was easier than scrolling. I could see them all.
- I wish the "Smart Search Field" :roll eyes: was longer.

Glitches:
- Swiping back sometimes takes me to a blank page and I have to manually reload it.
- Sometimes opening a new tab replaces the Favorites bar, but I've reported it.
- Youtube controls sometime get frozen at the bottom of the screen and I have to exit and re-enter full screen (HTML 5).

One thing I miss from Safari 6 and iOS 6 is how when you read an item in Reading List, it turned a light gray. I have anywhere from 15 to 100 articles all the time and now I have to delete as I read (I go out of order). It was easier to just have a long reading session and delete all the light gray entries later.

It's much faster here on Macrumors. At least for me. Like you said, some pages are almost instant. On other sites it isn't as dramatic. Still, a definite improvement.

I wonder if any of these benefits will trickle down to Mavericks and Mountain Lion in the Safari 7.1 and 6.2 updates?

.

It works for me, but I have read other people complain about this issue so it is definitely a prevalent bug.

Just have to say that I am loving the aesthetics of the new Safari. Safari 7 just looks downright clunky whenever I need to go back to my Mavericks partition. At first I thought the translucent top bar would be annoying but I've grown to absolutely love it. Plus it's been super speedy for me (near instant loads for some sites). It handles my school's homework site (Canvas) a lot better too. Best desktop browser out there right now imho.
