This might seem weird, but try seeking support for iTunes. Treat the zero cost operating system as you would a paid-for item of software.

Long ago, someone in Apple suggested the iTunes route for … I think it was, purchasing Snow Leopard, which was not in the online Apple store, for friends whose Mac could not run anything greater than Snow Leopard. I got the required code very easily.

When I sold my mac pro 1.1, I didn't want any personal information in the bowels of the os to be on it, so I purchased a snow leopard install from apple, IIRC. The $15 was well worth it so I could advertise the computer as having a fresh install of osx and even provide the install disk.

I imagine anybody selling a mac would find the install dvd handy to wipe it and give it a fresh start.

I see a number of yosemite install dvds on amazon for $ 11 including shipping. They look like official apple dvds, unless the sellers went to the effort of silkscreening something on it. Now if anyone wants to PM me on the subject, I won't be the least bit offended... ;) but otherwise, I am going after the dvd on amazon.

^^^^Knock Yourself Out! BTW, Apple never make a DVD Installer Disk for Yosemite.

Someone's putting some effort into that. Apple hasn't offered a DVD installer since I believe Mountain Lion.

Thanks for the head's up. I'm glad I mentioned the disk. So they use photoshop to make it look like the real deal, but its just dude burning DVDs. Not very interested in that...

Hey! I'm trying to upgrade a friend's old mac that according to Apple's guidelines is not capable of running Sierra, but that she requires at least Yosemite on (though El Capitan would be fine too presumably) to run certain software for her work.

I can't find any work-around through Apple itself. Do you have any recommendations? The OS is not a past purchase for either of us and would be an upgrade on her current 10.8.5

Thanks

A little off topic for Yosemite download, but El Capitan may be still available for download for Macs that can not upgrade to Sierra or need an upgrade path from Snow Leopard to Sierra.

This link is for the prepatched Yosemite installer by Piker hisself.:D
Mega wants you to install a plugin for your browser, but I've heard that Chrome will download the file without this plugin.
