It seems that SSD work at there best connected directly to Sata ports.
If true then one could come to the conclusion when using external SSD's to consider USB3 over TB unless using Raid0. I say that because I have access to the first generation LaCie 1TB SSD (LaCie Little Big Disk) for hauling big work files around the office (sneaker net) between other users with MBP's and it is raid0, and barely is faster then the firmteck miniswap.

What surprised me was that the LaCie was slower then the firmtech miniswap and that in the LaCie case, USB3.0 was faster then TB1 when connected to my MBP

I got "stung" with that one too, the initial Lacie Rugged 1TB has a thunderbolt
connection .... but a 5400 drive in it !!

That's like putting a Mini engine in a Porche !!

The Rugged used in the tests came with SSD and I pulled it and put in the EVO. The SSD from the LaCie is going to be used elsewhere. I have 2 of the older Rugged's FW800, and as you say the spinners in side are slower then slow. But was using them with a MP 2.1. The beast (6.1) is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Updating all externals to current tech is underway.

I fly over to Asia for 2 weeks Friday and copying about 600 Gigs of data to the LaCie with the Samsung in it and the transfer time is less then 1/2 compared to the Fw800 from my 2.1
