http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/24/samsung-confirms-galaxy-s-iv-launch-on-march-14th-in-nyc/

It was true. And then it wasn't. Now, here at MWC in Barcelona, Samsung has finally confirmed its rumored March 14th launch event for the much-anticipated Galaxy S IV. The smartphone giant's latest flagship is set to debut in New York City, apparently by popular demand. "We introduced the Galaxy S III in London last year," Samsung Electronics' mobile division chief JK Shin told Edaily news. "This time we changed the Venue (to New York)... as we were bombarded with requests from US mobile carriers to unveil the Galaxy S IV in the country." As with any such announcement, details are sparse at best, so we'll need to wait a few more weeks before confirming specs and appearance for the Galaxy S III successor. But, as always, you're welcome to shout out your best guesses in the comments.

So excited! Although I have heard so many conflicting rumors. Exynos quad core/Exynos octo/Snapdragon 600. Super AMOLED/SoLux. Different design, same design. It will all be unveiled soon enough :)

This makes me wonder if they'll be launching the S4 in the US at the same time as the International model. With the S3, it was launched overseas in April/May and didn't arrive here until July (I believe).

If they'll be launching here in the US right off the bat, I'm very excited about this!

Maybe carriers have put enough pressure on Samsung to get them to release it in the US in the first wave. Hopefully the event being moved to the US is a sign of an earlier than expected release here.

Keeping up with the Jonesses

So Sony Xperia Z with shipping for Feb 28th
A week before it's launch HTC announce the One with shipping for March 15th
A day before HTC's one ships Samsung reveal the SGS4 !!!

It's hard to keep up these days ;)

They have to do 'a lot' to convince me to spend on Samsung. Hated my SGS2, the SGS3 left me cold ....

Samsung need to build a phone that makes me feel i'm paying for a quality build (no more plastic please Samsung) and drop all the bloatware out of Touchwiz....

It is amazing how these companies play the one-up game on each other...and Samsung seems to do it better than any of the others. :D

I actually liked my S2, but the S3 has completely blown me away. I've tried tons of other phones (all of them "Flagship" models) over the last year, and I keep coming back to my rooted S3 every...single...time.

I will agree that it would be nice to have some more premium feeling materials, although I use a case on all my phones, so it's not as big of a deal to me (but I understand why others feel that way).

As for Touchwiz...I'm on the fence. I like some of the enhancements it brings, but like you, I still feel like it's too bloated. Of course, I tend to use an aftermarket launcher anyway (usually Nova Prime now, but I used to love Apex), so that helps to "hide" a lot of the Touchwiz junk.

While I love the AMOLED screen on the S3, it does lack pop in a sunny environment, so it'll be nice to see where they go with the screen tech and if they address this issue. Some of the rumors seem to suggest they're bringing some new screen tech to the S4, so that's pretty exciting.

I really feel like Samsung is going to bring it hard on the S4. They've been empowered by how popular the S3 has been and I think they now feel comfortable going all out on this phone. All I ask is that they update the screen, keep the removable battery, and keep the ability to use a MicroSD card. Give me that and I'll be first in line!

Actually it was released overseas in May, and the official release in the states was supposed to be the 23rd I believe but supply, and demand played a role in the delay. I had mine last year on the 25th of June. I have an upgrade on my account available, so I can't wait to pass my S3 along, and get the S4!

I am very curious to see what Samsung does design wise with the S4 ? Will it still be rounded shape with shiny plastic ? Or more squared off like the S2, and have aluminum or metal industrial design like the HTC One or iPhone 5 design ?

And what about Touchwiz 6.0 ? More stock design, and away from the ugly Touchwiz 5.0 that looks more Gingerbread theme.

LOL, ...well i have no interest in those you listed. Never had a GS2 but my GS3 is great and i like the build quality. Got me a couple of different battery covers with leather on it and its all good. Much rather be able to take the back off to have a Micro sd card.
LG has passed HTC in interest of their phones for me. HTC batteries in my experience, suck. My Wifes HTC windows 7 Radar has below average battery life as well. But it is built well. The LG Optimus line is really nice.

I'm very surprised that nothing credible has leaked yet. It's very impressive.

If they put out what was basically a slightly updated S3 but with a major bump in the camera and screen I am sold.

A spec bump to an S3 with a major camera and screen improvement is more than a slightly updated S3 in my book. I would consider that a major improvement all around.

It will be exciting to see what they deliver this time.

I have to admit that I might pass if the only real upgrade is more speed, higher resolution and a better camera since I really don't feel like I am missing anything with my current S3 at all. It is very fast and fluid and does all I really need.

My next upgrade (after going from S(1) -> S2 -> S3) might very well be the next Note instead - it will probably arrive towards the end of the year. I have tried other people's Note 2 a few times lately and the screen size and stylus makes it a very good productivity device.

Very exited for the launch. Wonder if the new phone is a better buy than the HTC One? Guess I would be switching from iPhone to Android when my current contract ends in August.

If you are waiting till August, will have some very good options to chose from; HTC One, Galaxy S IV, Google-X phone, maybe the Nexus-Five out by then too.

Add to my list- battery life. The camera and the battery were the most disappointing features of the S3 in my opinion. Surely the S3 is a fantastic phone though, I'm not knocking it at all. But those things kept me from really getting in to it.

Really excited to see the S4, and more so the exact availability for the US. I've always loved iOS, especially on a tablet. I really like Android, but haven't found "the one" for me yet- this has all the potential to get me on board with an Android phone. I would miss a lot of the WP8 features though.

Out of curiosity, what features of WP8 would you miss? I ask because I have a Lumia 920 (that I've got up for sale at the moment) and it's been the opposite experience for me with Android/iOS vs. WP8. I feel like I can do so much more on my S3 or jailbroken iPhone 5 than on the Lumia.

I'm genuinely curious.

Poor HTC and Sony. They just announced their phones with tons of press. Now Samsung has stolen the spotlight from them once again.

Sammy is in the same position of Apple. They need to wow people to keep their position in the market. I'm sure they will though.

Is Sony's Playstation still a popular item as it was? I know their PSP wasnt that popualr after the initial wow factor wore off. Whats it called now, a Vita?
