The IOS 8.01 OTA bricked 40,000 iphones. They had to be connect by cable to a Mac to restore them. That is a brick.......takes OTA phones is non functional until hooked up to a computer. What if you are at work? No iTunes? Its blocked at my work.......3 guys on my team had their phones inoperable.
Business ethics.......Apple. Apple withheld 150 million from GT Advanced they were contractually obligated to pay....because they knew...GT was filling for bankruptcy...insider info? Isn't GT an Apple funded and run company? Didn't the CEO sell all of his shares right before they filed for bankruptcy? Collusion? All this because Apple did not include Sapphire screens in the IP6. They told GT to retool all their manufacturing...stop selling to anyone else except us.....we got this....then pulled the rug..... Its all here on MR.

This is complete ************......Apple LOANED hundreds of millions of dollars to GT and yes, withheld the last installment of that LOAN.

GT filed for bankruptcy because that LOAN was coming due and they wouldn't be able to pay for it. Apple has gone on record and said they were surprised GT decided to file for bankruptcy.

GT's CEO DID sell off most of his shares....in my mind that IS insider trading. But to say that this is all because of a "surprise" decision to not use sapphire in the iPhone 6 is idiotic.

The only people tripping over themselves about sapphire displays in the iPhone were analysts. And once again, they got it wrong.....surprise, surprise.

Bankruptcy is a tool - it's not a death sentence. Ever since the Big 4 Auto makers were bailed out, people have this idea that bankruptcy is something to be avoided at all costs. While it's not ideal, it does serve its purpose.

If the tech is feasible (sapphire smartphone/tablet displays), I'm sure GT will be fine and Apple will continue to invest.

Although you make one interesting point - I wonder if GT had been allowed to sell to others, if we might have had a sapphire display Samsung Galaxy device by now.....likely released a few weeks before the iPhone 6/6+.....;)

Isn't that kind of duh obvious though? I'd expect any company in any field to want to somewhat copy the market leader.

There is a big difference between wanting the same market share or profitability than copying. That is a distinction he does not want to make. In his mind Samsung copies Apple........as in copyright infringement.....

It's true that Samsung copies Apple IMO, but Apple also copies Samsung, anyone that cannot see that is blind. Every single phone manufacturer takes elements of other phones to a certain extent. When someone hits gold with a feature, styling, functionality then you see everyone else scramble to copy it. Maybe it was Apple with their simple OS, maybe it was Palm with their grid of touchable icons, maybe it was Samsung with their larger screens.

The first big screen, big selling android hero phone was the HTC Evo, not anything by Samsung.

Then there was the HTC Titan

Then there was the HTC Droid DNA

I never said Samsung was the first. But yes, that elaborates on my point on the originality or lack of it in this kind of market. The HTC Evo, in turn, was not the first big screen phone, etc etc.

Samsung does want apples marketshare so they introduce products that try to look like iPhones like the alpha and a5. You talk about apples ethics like samsung isn't worse. I mainly mean their business model

No, OnePlus should never be used in an argument. As much as I liked my $350 OPO, OP dug its own grave with the whole invite system and non-existent support, which is what you get with a budget flagship. You're better off using Xiaomi as an example.

Samsung isn't in trouble. Blackberry mainly produces phones and software for its phones. Samsung produces everything from cosmetics to washing machines. As long as they continue producing Android phones instead of straying off with Tizen they'll be fine.

I was speaking of Samsung Mobile, not Samsung everything else.

And the clone PC's gutted the industry, look for the same thing to happen in smartphones.

I'm no fan of Samsung, but market conditions are going to (and already are) forcing changes.

There is no such thing as "apple marketshare" only 'smartphones marketshare'! Samsung, of course, tries to get that piece of marketshare as much as possible just like Apple, HTC or Motorola.

I suppose we should lump Sony into the same bucket as IMO the Z3 is a better example. The new Experia lines up is sexy.
