Yeah, I'm thinking of not putting a case on mine. I don't fear the back scratching because I can simply buy a replacement battery door. It feels a case will destroy the weight and feel.

All samsung phones can go caseless IMO , which I like.
Though I do use spigen glass screen protector (for now at least)

Does look nice in the review (not so much in the picture I commented on in here or a different alpha thread). DetroitBorg is one of my favorite reviewers, hard to not like most things he reviews.
BUT, people are complaining about a 2300 mah battery in the new moto x, the Alpha only has an 1860 mah battery...2300 is small, but what's that make 1860?
The battery charger is cool, but I see no difference in carrying two batteries or carrying a portable battery like the Power Pack Moto sells. Seems like two different ways to compensate for the same issue..

The main difference is recent samsung phones have ultra power saving mode which can stretch 10% battery to 24 hrs (Something like that, i need to check). So even though it has a smaller battery, it won't leave you stranded.
Oh yeah, just wanted to add, the speaker on this thing is really quiet compared to the g3 and m8. Its like a more refined s4 speaker. This was my findings while testing in store today.
I always like to compare the speakerphone because these premium phones need to serve business purposes, such as taking calls.

)True, but that low power mode does have trade offs ie if you want or need something like gps to get you somewhere..but you're right it is an (possibly quite significant) advantage.
Agreed. When it comes to the last few percent of my battery, I appreciate I can still call/text people till I can get to a charger.
I believe on rooted phones you can add apps to UPS mode, but again, something I would have to look into
Sure it severely limits what you can do but man is that a brilliant feature.
Samsung throws a lot of bright ideas at the wall but when they do hit the mark, they do make it feel like Apple is a little bit behind.

I looked at the Alpha yesterday and it has me very excited for the future. It is the exact size I want in a phone. It's a shame they used a Pentile display. That's the only thing holding me back. It just doesn't look good after being used to higher resolution screens. If they put a better screen in it, I have a feeling next year's Alpha will be a definite purchase for me.
I am actually starting to like the Alpha. It's the right size, great build and if I can get it for the right price it will probably be my next phone. Competition......i think they are feeling the squeeze from Apple and LG and Xiaomi. Looking at the Alpha and Note 4 the build quality is very top notch. I can't wait to see what the Galaxy S6 will be in the spring!
The S6 is hugely important for Samsung. I was really let down by the S5 and I'm glad the market reacted accordingly. If it were to have succeeded, the S6 probably would have been a higher spec'd S5.
Instead Samsung is really feeling the heat now and these moves with the Alpha and the Note 4 are truly a step in the right direction with respect to hardware. I do wish Samsung would ditch their physical home button/capacitive buttons (go on-screen navigation) and seriously rethink TouchWiz.
Agreed......except I like the physical home screen button!
TW needs an overhaul. They can look to HTC and Sense for some clues as to how to make a very nice UI skin that is very responsive.
After using a Nexus 5 and now a Moto X I really prefer having no front physical/capacitive buttons whatsoever. It allows an OEM to create phones with less bezel/better screen ratio. In turn this allows for easier one handed operation on a 5" or less screen. The Moto X remains the easiest 4.7" screen for me to navigate with one hand because it barely has a lower bezel.
The counter of course is that a physical button allows for fingerprint scanning. Hopefully one day this technology can be incorporated in the screen itself and not need a physical button. (Hopefully, not saying it will happen.)
Touch ID aside, imagine the iPhone 6, no physical home button, sporting the 2013 Moto X footprint.

I thought it was just okay. Nothing special about its "premium" materials. In terms of actual feel I think it trails the M8, Lumia Icon and the iPhone 4/5/6. The feel in hand reminded me a lot if the AT&T GS2, but I prefer the feel of the S3, S4 and S5.
But hey the guys at the Verge should be placated at least by the use of metal.

I rally liked the alpha, the size is just right and it feels great in the hand. Wish there was a GPE model though.
