Good stuff.. Love the dog pic

Nice! Your walking buddy likes to pose for the camera huh? :)

Thanks guys. More a case of he has no choice but to pose ;) The other little fella wouldn't stop still for 5 seconds ....

So far 'for me' its the most I've enjoyed a samsung phone. I will definetly keep to the Samsung Note's for big tablet as I love stylus on them, but as a phone, this just feels so right. And at 115g it is soooo light. Even next to my moto X and iPhone 5S 64gb - it feels so light.

If I had one gripe ............ fingerprint scanner still hit and miss - needs a software update.

You got the white or black model Mac?

black, but here's the thing. It's definetly more grey than black, and outside in the sunshine it positively grey-silver, even the back looks shimmery silvery in the light.

I did want Blue, but couldn't get it, but the benefit of Samsungs removable backs is I can always order one :) I am going to get the wireless charging back.

Oh and another thing ..... THERE IS LESS SAMSUNG BLOAT ON THIS THAN MOTO BLOAT ON THE MOTO X !!!!!

Seriously other than stock apps, nearly all the Samsung stuff is optional install. I've downloaded same apps as on my moto X and my app drawer on the Alpha is 2.5 pages of apps in the goolgle launcher, on the moto X it's 3 pages ... So yep SAMSUNG IS LISTENING!!!

That is so nice to hear! Samsung has always had great hardware. Hopefully they listened and now match that with a great UI experience........

The alpha has got to be so pocketable though. I hope they keep the line going.

It is not waterproof right?

No not waterproof. To be honest that is the least of my concern. Never exposed any of my devices to water - even the 'waterproof' ones.

So is this the real successor to the 2013 motox?

or is it the z3 compact?

hmm

It feels like a really nice 2014 pocketable - ergonomic device. It is doing to phones what the moto x did in 2013.

The Z3 compact is going to be mighty too - a good time finally to have a 'top tiered Android in a pocketable size'....

The only reason people have called the alpha "mid-range" is because of the display resolution and size....

I hope those who consistently bash Apple for similar specs finally realize great devices are those that are finetuned, not those that have the biggest spec numbers.

Glad to see Samsung finally starting to join the party (Apple and Moto have led to this point).

I hope this means we see more Alpha/Note 4, less GS5, variants etc.

I can't see these photos - what are the scores?

Geekbench : 931 single 3171 multicore higher than all the rest :D

Very nice - that's the Exynos version though.....those of us in the US won't get to enjoy that power :p

If early rumors are true, that's on par with the Note 4, correct?

Looks like we're seeing a bit of a plateau with respect to CPU speeds and benchmark scores.

iPhones went from roughly 2500 to 2900, Samsung's devices have gone from roughly 2600 to 3100. This is the first year we've seen substantially less than the 100% increase in benchmark scores we had been enjoying.

Looks like they didn't use the 64 bit exynos like in the international note 4 but still just a tad better then the gs5 with the 801.

I thought for a min it got the same exynos as the note 4 lol that would of murdered all running a 720p screen

Not quite the note 4 broke 4000 running a qhd display on the newer 64bit exynos soc

And that was in 32 bit mode!

Note 4 needs that power with a QHD display. But to still have benchmarks as high as the Alpha has, it does reflect in my usage. Its very fast, super quick for opening apps and just feels really nippy. Samsung hasn't left me feeling conflicted for a change. Bodes well for those looking towards the Note 4.

Stupid question guys - the processor of the Alpha in the US, what other recognizable phones currently have that exact same processor? (for comparison purposes)

Oh and thx Mac for the early impressions!! Keep 'em coming. Can't wait to play with this thing soon.

You're making me jealous Mac, and i don't know why since since I'm very happy with my SGS5, but that Alpha looks really really good

Is the screen as good as the SGS5 in color reproduction and vibrancy? It's still AMOLED, right? I mean the new AMOLED panels that are getting so much praise (SGS5 and Note 4).

Does it get really bright at 100%? On the SGS5 I have it at 60% during the day and maybe 25% at night. Is the Alpha similar in brightness to the SGS5?

Oh, and can you can check if the camera rattle that the SGS5 has is also on the Alpha?

Lastly, how's the loudspeaker? Does it sound clear or muffled like on the SGS5 (I have a feeling it's due to the waterproof)?

Keep us informed!
