But he says his S9+ is lag free, yet I'm sure you'll have someone complain their S9+ has lag. At this point in the game, lag is a complaint that you hear from all kinds of users. MKBHD stopped using his Pixel because of lag. And he was referring to real lag, and not these micro stutters that some like to call lag. He even bought a new Pixel because the lag was so bad, and it didn't help. But again, I'm sure you'll have many saying their Pixel is Pure Android, and it never lags. You have millions of people complaining their iPhone lags to the point they need to buy a new phone as well. Again, millions will say their iPhone is buttery smooth. Complaints of lag will always be around. One thing I know you're sure, the complaint of Samsung phones lagging more that the next OEM's phone, is old and no longer true.
With the price, quality has to be better.

Using "glance" right now with the S-Pen to do my fantasy draft, while doing other things. So cool.

Anyone think the Note 9 is a worthy upgrade over the Note 8? I actually just returned my P20 Pro. Not because I did not like the device, battery life and the camera were pretty amazing, but because I am not able to use on Verizon as well as no warranty. Too much risk on an $800 phone. My work is offering to pay for my plan and the P20 is GSM only. I currently have AT&T but will most likely switch to Verizon for free service. Also considering the Pixel 3 XL or maybe even going back to an iPhone if the new one is really that much of an upgrade.

For someone who doesn't use Android, that review was a great insight into what I'm missing out on &/or don't need.

Flossy's very thorough & entertaining at the same time.

I think you may be getting too caught up with his catch phrases. His reviews have substance & are still very informative imo.

& it's not like he can go back & change his review from a year ago - if lag creeps in, then at least he mentions it in future reviews.

One of the funniest parts :D "I was hurt".

Funniest part indeed lol. Loved how he calls it the Purple Thanos edition to make it sound more masculine

Car phone warehouse now offer an extra £200 off the Note 9 when you trade in a phone newer than the iPhone 6s or Galaxy S7.

What a cracking deal! It effectively makes it a £699 phone. It's a good initiative by Samsung to reel in customers before the new iPhones launch.

They are not offering anything for trading in the iPhone X.

I'm almost tempted. Bought my Pixel 2 XL brand new on eBay for £550 four months ago. Trade in value if I buy the Note 9 is £520. If only I didn't have a second child later this year. :p The Note 9 screen is too big and glorious to go unnoticed if I did a sneaky upgrade.

Well spotted. Its comical that it's excluded while the iPhone 7 and 8 aren't.
The trade in value for the iPhone X is quite high though at the moment. It’s £620. It will come Plumet after the event. I have an upgrade coming up in December anyway. So I’m just gonna wait until then. By that time the iPhone X plus will have been out a good while for me to see how it stacks up to the note 9. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t still tempted by the note 9.

Might go the two phone thing again, if the iPhone X plus isn’t worth the upgrade.

I’ve just had a second child so need to wait awhile before I acquire any new phones. My HomePod and echo have been met with rolled eyes so I have to wait a bit :D

I did that last week, paid £550 for my Pixel 2 XL back in January and took up Carphone Warehouse on their offer.

It was a good deal, but I gave the Note 9 back. I'm going to stay on this Pixel train for now, the smaller Pixel 3 looks just about right enough. So I'll wait a while pick up a deal when I can.

So they just gave you a refund for the note 9? Or were you able to get your pixel back?

I've been so tempted to pick up a Note 9, since I can get one through my work for $600 seems like an awesome deal to me. I have a feeling the new iPhone's won't be offering much other than a slight spec bump and a larger size. I feel like the Note 9 has a lot more to offer.

I've also been feeling the constraints of using my iPhone for work lately and feel I could get a lot more done with a Note.
My only hesitation is I am so tied into iCloud and other Apple devices that making the switch is a bit tough. I've done it before and always ended up back with an iPhone but I'm finding less and less reasons to go back to the iPhone each year.

I picked up the Note 9 on Friday and they give you 7 days to actually send in your phone for trade-in (you can't do it in store).

I held off sending in the Pixel straight away! So I spent the whole long weekend with the Note 9, and decided to keep the Pixel, returned the Note on Tuesday.

If you're concerned about usability for work tasks, the Note is definitely the way to go. Getting over the iCloud tie-in will be a big deal, potentially a deal-breaker for you. If you can get past that, the Note will be easily be the more productive device.

Samsung has basically perfected the Note as a productivity device. Apple hasn't really ventured down that path on a smaller device. They have a good base to work with in the iPad Pro, but I almost certainly think the 6.5" phone will fall short of the Note in split-screen multitasking capabilities. We don't even know for sure that will be a thing. It could very well just be a bigger version of the X. Samsung baked-in four or five different ways to multi-task apps at one time on this thing, and they're all useful in various situations.

All of the ties to Apple are definitely a hurdle, and kept me from trying Android devices for a long time. Then I realized, if I never take a moment to at least try one (do my due diligence to make sure I still want to stay with Apple rather than having to be) move some of my stuff to cross platform alternatives, etc.. I will be tied to Apple forever. The longer you wait the harder it will be as more products and services become mainstream. Might as well give it a try for a year and even if you don’t like it maybe some of your stuff will be ported out of Apple.

I’m a heavy user of Apple products in every product category but do like to dabble on other platforms, so I switched years ago to 3rd party services (primarily Google with a touch of Microsoft) to allow me to scratch that itch.

I use my Google account for my primary email, contacts and calendar syncing (including sharing to family members), Chrome bookmark syncing, Google Drive and Photos (secondary photo backup repository) and Google Play/YouTube Premium. These all integrate quite well into the Apple ecosystem but also make popping onto Android or Windows much simpler. And to be honest, they generally work better than their Apple equivalent in many cases. Now whenever I get a new device, Apple or not, it’s quite easy to just sign in with my Google account and go.

That’s good. At least you can try the phone out for a while before giving up your old phone.

What were your reasons for returning it?

Mainly the camera. Shooting side by side, at least 90% of the time, the Pixel was simply trouncing the Note.

I loved loads about the Note and I've had plenty of Samsung S devices. Build quality, speed, amount of awesome options, S Pen... It's a cracking device.

But the camera, I don't know if I had a bad unit or the software needs help - there are plenty of people complaining about it.

I know my Pixel 2 XL is a bit dodgy in terms of screen and Pie gestures are weird etc. But it's fast, fluid, and the camera is the best in the market.

Note owners will love their new 9's, though!

One of the most underrated productivity apps they offer is pin to screen. I cannot tell you how many phone numbers, conference call dial ins/codes, etc I've needed to pin to the dialer while on the road. Just awesome.

My husband’s hold on his order has been released! It still won’t ship until the end of the month. :( But at least now it’s going to be processed. :) I had felt so bad when I found out my preorder was causing his to be held up. I do miss knowing there’s a Note 9 waiting to be built and shipped out to me. But at least I am getting more quality time with my S9+ and getting my money’s worth from it.
