My point is that it is frustrating to me that I paid 1000$ to Samsung and they pushed back the update by months while the cheaper phone already has it. And the fact that you're pretending it's okay is mind boggling.
It will never change. It’s the nature of android. Samsung always say December/January for the new update and it’s always a a month or two later. I think once you accept that it’s fine.

I thought this was going to get better with Treble. That's what everyone in the tech press told me.

Edit: Note 9 is awesome regardless.

Wow...I think you made a very big leap there. Where did you get that from? Where did I say it was alright?
You posted a vague chat session without really making a point.....
Then you made accusations......
And the fact that you're pretending it's okay is mind boggling.

It comes down to this.....Samsung doesn't have a great record when it comes to OS updates.
You knew this when you bought a Samsung phone.....
If you don't like that...don't buy a Samsung phone........
Go buy that cheaper phone.....problem solved......

I got my first Samsung phone in 2012 and they are the same as they have always been. You get it when you get it. If you want instant updates you get a pixel. If you want premium hardware with exclusive features you get a SAMSUNG. That's what android is all about--diversity.

It will never get better imo. There are too many variables and too many different models which will always increase the amount of time it takes to get updates.

That is the beauty of Android.....there is an Android phone maker for everyone's preferences :)

Oh joy. Let's hope this isn't true.
Have to say, it is quite disappointing that the Note9 still doesn't have Android Pie, Samsung really needs to work on their releases of OS updates at this price point.

The very same thing happened last year with the Note8, and that was the device that 1st pushed Samsung to $1000 price tags, yet after well over a full year one has to wonder if the phone really was worth it, my mates OnePlus 3T and Huawei Mate 10 Pro get better battery life than my Note8 does now, which is quite sad.

If you want bleeding edge Android OS then Google Pixel or Android One is a better fit.

Seems like the average consumer is bent on having bleeding edge OS while the ones with IT background prefer stability. In IT you're asking to be fired if you want to roll out bleeding edge IOS, JunOS, Redhat server, etc. to production just for the sake of having the newest.

With that said Samsung flavor of Android have had key features long before they're on the latest stock Android like split screen multitasking and soon to be desktop mode on Android Q.

Oneplus 5 and 5T 2017 phones are getting stable Android pie. While my S8 still has not received beta. No wonder Samsung is getting their rear kicked around the world. It is next 'Apple'.

Some people care more about a fully working and stable device. Granted they're improving but OnePlus 5 and 5T from like a year ago didn't even ship with Widevine L1 DRM so it was stuck with 540p video content. Noob mistake that very few manufacturers make (OnePlus and ZTE).

https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t-netflix-amazon-prime-video-hd/

A newer OS is only better if it's fully baked otherwise you're better off with previous stable Android OS version >= 5.x that also happens to be forward compatible with virtually all apps.

My note 5 with an "old" version of Android is still way more functional then the latest ios12.

Not sure what's the big deal with o/s updates. On Android we can get latest functions without needing os updates unlike poor iPhone.
I have an S5 on on marshmallow and it’s still really usable. Even the hardware is still quite competitive, water resistance, 1080p display, IR blaster, FPS.

It can do split screen multitasking and a case can give it wireless charging.

What I like about android is there’s always a way to do something. I wanted to get a flashlight on the lock screen and in the task bar. On android no problem.

Same, my S5 is still solid as a rock and the battery life even lasts longer than my iPhone X with iOS 12.

The complaints here with regards to Samsung pushing out updates late are weird.

A. Android phone manufacturers across the board take a long time to push out major OS updates. It's a known fact about the OS. So why is everyone acting surprised?

B. Samsung has improved their time in pushing out updates drastically since Nougat. They've actually cut their update time in half.

C. If quick updates are this important to you, then it's really only your fault for not purchasing a Pixel, OP, or iPhone.

You think it’s weird to ask that Samsung improves over time? It’s not so much acting surprised as being frustrated. Also, the OnePlus doesn’t work on my carrier of choice, so it’s crappy Pixel hardware or slow updates. Or use the iPhone.

Its the first thing you need to consider before buying a Samsung phone, if timely updates are important then its not the phone for you. However like others have said I find Samsung's version of Android to be one of the most stable options out there including Pure Android. They are also the most feature rich making frequent updates less important for me.

Look, Samsung phones are still the best Android phones in my opinion. I'm still going to be buying the next Galaxy S phone, likely from a carrier since they get updates faster than unlocked here in the states. I even think the One UI is fantastic in a world where phones keep getting bigger.

Hell, I'll even say Samsung has gotten a lot better than they were before. I just want them to keep improving and maybe bring it down to four months instead of six.

Samsung takes a long time to get the OS updated but sheesh, as a Pixel user sure I'll be on the bleeding edge of the updates, but on last year's Qualcomm 845, and I just got this phone. Even if I'd gotten the Pixel when they were first sold, the 845 was no spring chicken anymore. Anyone preordering a Samsung gets the new processor at the earlier part of 2019. Android purists gotta wait until almost the end of the year for the Pixel anyway. So there is that to think about.

And you do get the new OS...eventually. Meanwhile it's not as if your phone stops working on the old OS. It will still be the phone you bought and paid for. They're definitely putting the security updates out regularly. Even on AT&T I have gotten mine for the S9+ .

Anyway that's another perspective on it. Sorry if it's already been said. I've lost track a little bit of the history of this discussion.

It's also going to get you the most recent Snapdragon first, since Samsung can buy the most chips at once. Plus, no matter how much I want the newest version, it becomes less and less relevant each year.

Right I’m going to get the note 9 end of this month to see how I like it

Had my iPhone for years so going to see how I like it again. Features seem endless so might take me a while to get used to it going from the Xs max
I've just done the very same. IPhone for years. 256 max from release. Bought note 9 on a whim last week. Haven't got the courage to sell iPhone just yet but so far the note 9 has surpassed my expectations. I don't see me rushing back to my xs max just yet.

Saw this article and it reminded me of Gary Seven’s servo from Star Trek the original series.

Samsung’s camera-equipped stylus is straight out of a Bond movie
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/samsung-camera-s-pen-stylus-news/
That was an awesome episode. I think it was supposed to be a pilot for a spin-off. I went ahead and fetched Isis for my avatar today. Since I can't have Ice Universe's chubby cheeked kitty avatar, I shall have sleek beautiful Isis. I have a feral black cat friend who looks like her, without the fancy jewelry of course!

Anyway that would be an extremely interesting (though possibly invasive) innovation if Samsung ever gets around to it. I do wonder if Apple is doing anything interesting like this, and if not, why not. Their product lines manage to pull off some iconic features like um, well, the notch and Face ID, and they do have the Apple Pencil but they are rather slow to make these things less clunky. And they seem to be losing a lot of top level people. I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad one. Maybe they're rebooting to get more aggressive about innovating and getting new products out the door. I can't believe we still don't have the Airpad charging mat. It's a charging mat. I understand there are challenges unique to their implementation of it. However it's still a charging mat. Meanwhile Samsung and others have folding phones coming out and are tinkering with super secret agent camera pens. The pen they released that can be a camera remote is already pretty damned cool.

As a gadget nut I hope there really are more cool things in the Apple pipeline. At least make an Apple pencil that's less clunky, less fragile and stores inside the iPad or iPhone.

Because I’m sad I read Star Trek books and there’s a 2 part book series called the Eugenics wars and Gary seven and isis are in it.

I agree unless Apple have a top secret product hidden away somewhere they don’t seem to have anything up their sleeves.
